Abstract The purpose of this article is to present the new challenges faced by the automotive industry and specifically by the steering wheel producers in terms of product design changes, process changes and the solution to solve them, the concept of TTM - Total Traceability Management. The article presents the traceability solution as a proved solution for managing JIS (Just in Sequency) & JIT (Just in Time) manufacturing concepts in terms of customer demand sequence attainment, process sequence attainment, and technical test verifications. The research is based on case studies deployed in production facilities, in the companies TRW and Key Safety Systems. Both entities are steering wheel producers with JIS&JIT conditioned production systems and are also using latest technology in synchronizing the traceability communication with various cars producers (Porsche, BMW, Daimler, etc.). This concept of manufacturing and delivery of the products to the famous automotive companies is crucial for the supplier including the base of business, because the entire work in this domain is completely automatic by robots. That means: all the final products (cars end others), including the components from different suppliers, also the technology of assembling, it need to be adapted in order to be performed by robots. The components as steering wheels, and many others, arrive at the assembling line at OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturing) facilities and the robots work on directly the buffers with these components in order to ensure the continuous assembling process in the condition of total flexibility and without errors.

While firms are operating in a global competitive environment, they are subjected to changes because of the increased competitiveness and developed technologies. Therefore, this transformation process forces to produce with just-in-time production and low cost products or services and leads to customer satisfaction. Until today, competitive conditions, efficiency, productivity and quality of production, forced the firms to put more emphasis on production systems. Therefore, the firms are more interested in scientific analysis, planning and controlling of their production systems. As a result, one of the newest approaches is Just in Time (JIT) production system which emerged after WWII in Japan and aims to decrease the inventory cost and maximize the quality. The philosophy of this approach is to produce the necessary amount of production, when and where needed at the required quality.But JIT production system is weak in unclear species. For this purpose, the general and necessary solution is using fuzzy logic. In this paper we discussed about the simulation of an assembly line with 3 steps; firstly using Kanban production method, secondly non-using Kanban production method, and lastly using Kanban production method with fuzzy times. And also the comparisons of these steps will also be studied in this paper.

Abstract Much progress has been made over recent years in understanding many aspects of driver-vehicle interactions, for example, linked to ergonomics/comfort of the cabin, influence of improved safety systems, interactions with ITS systems etc. However, in more dynamic situations, similar levels of understanding have not been achieved. Such dynamic events range from whole body motions such as vehicle handling and ride to component behaviour including, in particular, steering wheel feel and gearshift quality.

Abstract The present research study aims at analysing the kinematic and the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle’s driver in a frontal collision. Hence, a subsequent objective of the research paper is to establish the degree of injury suffered by the driver. Therefore, in order to achieve the objectives set, first, we had to define the type of the dummy placed in the position of the driver, and then to design the three-element assembly, i.e. the chair-steering wheel-dashboard assembly. Based on this model, the following step focused on the positioning of the dummy, which has also integrated the defining of the contacts between the components of the dummy and the seat elements. Seeking to model such a behaviour that would highly accurately reflect the driver’s movements in a frontal collision, passive safety systems have also been defined and simulated, namely the seatbelt and the frontal airbag.

Contingent (just-in-time, or gig) employment is on the rise in tourism and hospitality. People in contingent employment are not offered long-term contracts, but are called upon when needed. This chapter explores whether peer-to-peer accommodation networks are part of the problem or part of the solution. They create new challenges by increasing the competitive pressure on the established commercial sector, which leads to a reduction in jobs and a conversion of full-time to contingent employment. But they also offer new employment opportunities: without entry barriers, people can earn additional income by renting out spare space, and other opportunities – especially for a workforce trained in hospitality – are emerging as listing managers for hosts. These jobs may be particularly suitable to people traditionally struggling with full-time employment arrangements.

Systems and agricultural organizations are facing new challenges in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. Opposing the existence of other food producers that show low profitability in their production systems, there are other models that have differentiated through ecological production being able to reach high profitability in their production systems. Ecological agriculture is seen as an opportunity to supply to those social segments that would rather consume healthy products. This article reviews literature on processes and key management factors for the sustained success of an organization, resulting on a conceptual framework that synthesizes these ideas. Mainly it looks at two international standards: ISO 9004 (2009) and ISO 21500 (2012). This conceptual framework is used to analyze the experience of an organization of organic farmers called Camposeven, which counts with farmers with over 40 years of experience in production, processing, and marketing of conventional and organic crops in the region of Murcia in Spain.

SUMMARYThe attainment of a breakeven for lower outputs, the diversification of models in order to meet market demand and the improvement of quality are accepted as strategic objectives for the automotive industry. The role of flexible manufacturing with reference to these objectives is illustrated. The steps, through which the new technology is introduced, are discussed and some production systems already installed are described within the given framework.

The engine cooling module consists of condenser, radiator and fan (CRFM), which has long been recognized as a main source of sound and vibration in the automotive industry. As the engine becomes increasingly compact and powerful, customers gradually have higher expectations for automobile NVH performance than ever before. Thus the reduction of noise and vibration induced by CRFM becomes critical, which can greatly influence overall NVH performance. Combined with experimental and numerical methods, this paper focuses on the identification and optimization of steering wheel (SW) vibration induced by CRFM for a vehicle with V6 engine while engine idling. The numerical model established in this paper, based on Matlab and taking chassis vibration into account, can predict and optimize the vibration of CRFM under specific working condition with the help of energy decoupling and Newmark-Beta methodology. The optimization design of CRFM mainly involves the stiffness, position and angle of isolators. The numerical simulation results are validated experimentally, which can help further design of CRFM.

The multi-level just-in-time sequencing problem is one of the challenging research areas in supply chain management. In this paper, we present brief review and some recent research developments of just-in-time production systems together with supply chain logistics. Observing production flows and supply chain synchronization in production process, we present the mathematical models of just-in-time (JIT) sequencing problem in multi-level and single-level as nonlinear integer programming in terms of discrepancy functions under the specified constraints.
