Abstract In order to study the role of leaf position on yield and yield component of maize, this research was conducted based on randomized complete block design with three replicates at the research field of Urmia University, Urmia, Iran, in 2011. For determine the role of leaf position in maize yield, we used the leaf removing (clipping) treatments. Leaf clipping treatments contain ear leaf clipping, above ear leaf clipping, below ear leaf clipping and control (without leaf clipping) that imposed at one week after ear initiation. Leaf removing had a significant effect on all measured traits (number of seed per row, row number per ear, ear length, 1000 seed weight, seed yield, biological yield), except harvest index. Removing of above leaves decreased 6.68% the number of seeds on ear compare to control. The highest 1000 seed weight (274 g) was observed in plants without leaf clipping. Ear leaf clipping and below ear leaf defoliation ranked second for 1000 seed weight. Whereas plants without any leaf clipping had the utmost seed yield (8.77 t ha-1) but defoliating of leaf above ear lead to lower seed yield (6.77 t ha-1). Leaf removal above ear decreased 22.80% biological yield compared to control. The correlation analysis showed that all traits had positive correlation with seed yield. The most correlation was between ear length and number of row per ear (r=0.89**). Also, number of seed per row (r=0.71**), 1000 seed weight (r=0.67**), ear length (r=0.65**), biological yield and harvest index (r=0.59**) showed the most correlation with seed yield, respectively. Results revealed that the most reduction in all traits accrued in maize plants with above ear leaf clipping, this results indicated that the important roles of leaves position especially the role of above ear leaves in yield and yield components of maize.

The present study was conducted at the Research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, during March to June 2014 to examine the effect of Phosphorus on the growth and yield of Sesame. BARI Til-3 variety was used for the study. This experiment was consisted of single factor eg. phosphorus. There were three levels of phosphorus viz. (i) P0 (0 % P), (ii) P1 (20 % P) and (iii) P2 (30 % P) and the experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with six replications. Different levels of phosphorus showed significant effect on growth and yield of sesame. Individually phosphorus had significant effect on highest plant height, number of leaves plant-1, number of primary branches plant-1, number of secondary branches plant-1, number of capsule plant-1, number of seeds capsule-1, 1000 seed weight, seed yield and harvest index. The highest plant height of sesame (136.30 cm), the highest no leaves plant-1 of sesame (34.44), number of primary branches plant-1 (5.56), number of secondary branches plant-1 (7.61), number of capsule plant-1 (25.87), number of seed capsule-1 (70.47),1000 seed weight (3.54), Seed yield (1581.00 kg ha-1), Stover yield (3034.42 kg ha-1), biological yield (4615.76), harvest index (34.11%), oil content (43.92%) was recorded from P1. Again, the highest days to first flowering of sesame (31.67) was recorded from P1 (20 % P) but the highest days to maturity was (85.67) recorded from P2 (30% P). In this study, the effects of four different sowing densities (200, 250, 300 and 350 seed m-2) on the yield and yield components for two winter lentil cultivars (Şakar and Fırat-87) in Mardin conditions. The study was laid out in a factorial randomised block design with three replicates at the fields of Mardin Artuklu University, Kızıltepe Vocational High School in 2012-2013 growing season. In the study were investigated the effect of planting densities on the plant height, first pod height, numbers of branche, numbers of pod per plant and numbers of seed per plant, numbers of seed per pod, seed yield per unit area, harvest index, biological yield and 1000 seed weight. While the highest seed yield per area was obtained from second plant density and Şakar variety with 275.23 kg da-1, the lowest seed yield per area was obtained from first plant density and Fırat-87 variety with 208.83 kg da-1.

The present investigation was carried out at the field Experimentation Centre, Department of genetics and Plant Breeding, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad, U.P. The experiment on 22 genotypes was laid out in Randomised Block Design with three replications. Observations were recorded on five randomly selected plants to each treatment and replication for 13 quantitative characters viz., days to 50 per cent flowering, days to 50 per cent pod setting, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, number of seeds per plant, 100-seed weight, harvest index, biological yield, seed yield per plant and one qualitative character protein content to estimate the variability, heritability. genetic advance, correlation and path coefficient analysis among yield. Maximum GCV and PCV were recorded for number of pods per plant and 100-seed weight. High genetic advance as percentage of mean recorded for number of pods per plant. High heritability was recorded for 100-seed weight. High genetic advance was recorded for 100-seed weight. Seed yield per plant had showed high positive significant correlation with biological yield per plant, harvest index, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per plant at phenotypic and genotypic levels.

This study was conducted to determine cultivars which grown at Van Gurpinar ecological conditions and their some important agricultural and plant properties in 2013 year in center of Gurpinar. In the study was used 13 cultivars which officially registered such as Bulduk, Akın, Göynük, Karacaşehir 90, Arslan, Özdemir, Önceler, Battal, Zülbiye, Göksun, Akman 98, Akdağ and Güngör and 2 genotypes (Gevaş 1 and Gevaş 2). The trial was conducted by using randomized complete blocks design with the three replications. In the study were investigated sowing times on plant height, first pod height, numbers of branches, numbers of pod per plant and numbers of seed per plant, numbers of seed per pod, seed yield per unit area, harvest index, biological yield and 1000 seed weight. While the highest seed yield per area was obtained from Bulduk varieties with 360.4 kg da-1, the lowest seed yield per area was obtained from Önceler with 201.6 kg da-1.

The study was conducted to determine effects of different levels of humic acid and potassium on the yield and some yield components in chickpea in 2017 in Mardin city. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomised block design with three replications. The doses were used potassium (0, 10 and 20 kg da-1) and humic acid (0, 30 and 60 kg da-1) in this study. In the study were investigated the plant height, first pod height, branch number per plant, pod, seed number and per plant, biological yield, seed yield per unit, harvest index, 100-seed weight, protein ratio and potassium content in seed. The results of the study indicated that humic acid and potassium applications increased significantly the seed yield and yield components. The highest seed yield was obtained from 20 kg phosphorus da-1 + 60 kg humic acid da-1 application as 286.9 kg da-1.

The experiment was carried out to study the effect of variety and level of phosphorus fertilizer on the yield and yield components of lentil at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during October 2009 to March 2010. Three lentil varieties viz. BINA masur 2, BINA masur 3 and BARI masur 4 and four levels of phosphorus viz. 0 kg P ha-1 (P0), 15 kg P ha-1 (P15), 30 kg P ha-1 (P30) and 45 kg P ha-1 (P45) were used in this experiment. Varieties showed significant influence on the all characters except plant height. The highest seed yield (1165 kg ha-1) was observed in BARI masur 4, and the lowest seed yield (1028 kg ha-1) was found in BINA masur 3. Phosphorus fertilizer had a significant effect on all the plant characters studied except 1000 seed weight. The highest seed yield (1222kg ha-1) was observed in P45 (45 kg P ha-1) treatment and the lowest seed yield (893 kg ha-1) was found in P0 treatment. In case of interaction, effect of cultivar and phosphorus fertilizer doses had a significant effect on all the plant characters studied except seeds pod-1 and 1000-seed weight. The highest seed yield (1317 kg ha-1) was obtained in V3 X P45 treatment, and the lowest seed yield (830 kg ha-1) was observed in V2 X P0 treatment combination. Among the varieties BINA masur 2 and BARI masur 4 were superior to BINA masur 3 in respect of yield performance with 30 kg P ha-1. Abstract In hot and arid regions, drought stress is considered as one of the main reasons for yield reduction. To study the effect of drought stress, iron and zinc spray on the yield and yield components of wheat, an experiment was carried out during the crop seasons of 2010 and 2011 on Shahid Salemi Farm in Ahwaz as a split factorial within randomized complete block design with three replications. The main plots with irrigation factor and three levels were considered: Level A) full irrigation, Level B) stopping irrigation at pollination step, and Level C) stopping irrigation at the seed filling stage. Subsidiary plots were considered with and without iron and zinc spray. Influencing the seed filling process, in interaction with iron, wich is an important leaf's chlorophyll cation, zinc increased the seed yield. The drought stress reduced the thousand kernels weight (TKW) and the number of seeds per spike increased about 24% and 8.5% more than the one of control treatment, respectively. Using iron, as compared with control treatment, causes the increase of thousand kernels weight from 45.71 to 46.83 grams and the increase of spike from 49.51 to 51.73. Zinc spray increased seed yield and thousand kernels weight. The results obtained from the present research showed that iron and zinc spray has fairly improved the effects caused by drought stress.

The study was conducted to determine effects of organic and inorganic fertilization on the yield and some yield components in lentil cultivars in 2014-15 growing seasons in Van. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomised block design with three replications. The study was conducted to determine effects of different fertilizer sources (Control, DAP, Chicken manure and sheep manure) on the yield and some yield components in two lentil cultivars (Özbek and Kafkas). In the study were investigated the plant height, first pod height, branch number per plant, pod and seed number per plant, seed number per pod, biological yield, seed yield per unit, harvest index, 1000-seed weight and protein ratio in seed. The highest seed yield was obtained from chicken manure application of Özbek cultivar with 157.6 kg da-1.

A field experiment was carried out at University of Dhaka from March to July, 2011 to study the effect of time of sowing on the growth and yield of BARI mung-5. The treatments consisted of three dates of sowing viz. March 15, April 15 and May 15. The crop responded significantly to sowing time and 15 April sowing seeds produced plants having maximum plant height (68.4 cm), leaves/plant (29.33), total dry matter/plant (17.99), branches/plant (8.17), pods/plant (11.33), pod length (8.78 cm), seeds/pod (11.17), 1000 seed weight (46.52 g), seed yield/plant (5.33 g), yield/ha (1.77 t) and harvest index (29.58 %) at harvest. The effects of nitrogen (N) fertiliser rate and irrigation on seed yield and its components were evaluated for signal grass (Urochloa decumbens (Stapf) R.D. Webster; syn. of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf) cv. Basilisk in a field experiment in Umuarama, Paraná, Brazil. Two water regimes (irrigated and non-irrigated) and four nitrogen (N) fertiliser rates (0, 25, 50 and 75 kg ha–1) were applied to perennial signal grass crops in a split-plot randomised complete block design with three replications. In two consecutive harvests, favourable rainfall resulted in irrigation having limited influence on most measurements, and the combined application of irrigation and N fertiliser did not improve seed yield. Compared with the nil N, the highest N application rate significantly increased seed yield for the first crop (266 vs 498 kg ha–1) and the second crop (104 vs 286 kg ha–1). Nitrogen fertilisation significantly increased number of seed per area, reproductive tiller density and plant biomass at harvest for the first and second crops. Harvest index, 1000-seed weight, reproductive tiller weight, number of spikelets per panicle and number of seeds per panicle were unaffected by N rate. Harvest index ranged from 1.10% to 3.63% and 1000-seed weight from 2.15 to 3.36 g. There were no treatment effects on number of days to flowering or anthesis. Fertilisation with 75 kg N ha–1 for the first crop and 50–75 kg N ha–1 for the second crop maximised signal grass seed yield.
