AbstractShade effect is a defect of the images very often invisible for human vision perception but may cause difficulties in proper image processing and object detection especially if the aim of the task is to proceed detection and quantitative analysis of the objects. There are several methods in image processing systems or presented in the literature, however some of them introduce unexpected changes in the images, what may interfere the final quantitative analysis. In order to solve this problem, authors proposed a new method for shade correction, which is based on simulation of the image background based on analytical methods which return pixel values representing smooth grey level changes. Comparison of the effects of correction by applying standard methods and the method proposed are presented.

A new method for the quantitative analysis of multiple toxicity data is described and illustrated using a data set on metal exposure to copepods. Positive interactions are observed for Ni-Pb and Pb-Cr, with weak negative interactions observed for Ni-Cr.

Aiming at the problem that the traditional plunged-bar method is difficult to meet the measurement requirement of spatial location of thin and small through-hole, in this paper, the digital image processing technique combined with sub-pixel detection technique is employed, and a new method is proposed to detect the tiny through-holes. The evaluating function method based on the “roundness” of the image of hole is presented to find out the posture parameters of CCD where the optical axis of CCD is parallel to the centerline of hole. Therefore, the spatial location of hole can be easily obtained by these posture parameters. Meanwhile, the diameter of hole can be achieved by means of image measuring technology at calculated posture of CCD. Owing to the non-contact measurement, this method is particularly suitable for those small through-holes drilled on the soft and easy-deformed object. The experiment results on the experimental platform illustrate the feasibility and validity of this method.

The near-band IR star images segmentation and recognition is key technique in day time star navigation. Due to the scene of near-band IR star imaging relative small and stellar with high star grade are limited. Pertinence and dynamic grey level threshold is necessary for image processing arithmetic. In order to enhance near-band IR star images segmentation and recognition in real-time, this paper present the process of partial histogram grey level threshold and improve for actually near-band IR star images with scene of no more than 1.5°×1.5°. It can reduce the calculation of near-band IR star images with adjustable threshold. And get rid of disturbance of small imaging square stars and noise points.
