Occupational risk assessment was carried out for the employees of 956 different professions of 20 enterprises under study in five sectors of the economy: construction, mining, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, and warehousing. The study was conducted using the Methodological Recommendation on the implementation of the occupational risk management system at an enterprise. This Methodological Recommendation was developed by the Republican state enterprise on the right of economic management — Republican Scientific Research Institute for Labour Protection of Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Occupational risks were assessed in the context of specific professions and structural divisions of the enterprises by five indicators: harmful working conditions, injury risk of the labor process, safety of production equipment, availability of personal protective equipment, and risk of morbidity. Based on the results of the assessment, the degree of individual occupational risk on each assessed indicator is determined by five gradations: I — acceptable risk, II — low, III — medium, IV — high and V — very high. According to the results of the occupational risk assessment, a high risk (4 degree) was established at the enterprises of mining, construction, agricultural industries, as well as transport, and warehousing industries. According to the results of equipment safety assessment, a high risk (grade IV) was identified at the enterprises of transport and mining industries. Due to the low provision with the personal protective equipment and its non-compliance with the certification requirements, a high risk is assigned to the enterprises of mining and construction industries. It is established that a high degree of occupational risk is due to the injury risk of working conditions, insufficient provision of personal protective equipment along with their low quality, the severity and intensity of the labor process accompanied by a high degree of the employees morbidity, as well as the use of the outdated equipment in production.

The matrix method is often used for occupational risk assessment. In this paper have been considered the matrix method’s use features, as well as have been highlighted its advantages and disadvantages. Have been presented recommendations on the risk matrix development, and criteria for categorization of occupational risk’s attributes – the effect consequences severity of hazard and its feasibility. The proposed approach to consequences severity categorization is accorded with rules and regulations regarding the severity of harm to human health, which in return facilitates mitigation the degree of uncertainty and subjectivity of the assessment results. The grading of categories for hazard feasibility is based on well-known scientific and practical approaches. Has been performed the generalization of scientific data on the hazard feasibility categorization, and have been proposed universal criteria descriptors, which allow assess the considered hazard objectively and all round, and determine the necessary category for this hazard feasibility. It has been pointed to subjective perception of categories names in final estimating of occupational risk levels, and has been proposed to use the concepts of occupational risk levels, which based on the priority relating to risk respond measures. The proposed approaches facilitate increase of quality and effectiveness of matrix method use in estimating of occupational risk levels.

Industrial development in Indonesia is growing rapidly. This should be balanced with the application of good HA safety risk management to workplace hazard risks. As in PT. X Lumajang Regency, in its production process has great potential hazard. One of them is in the cane knife tool at Gilingan Station that has been damaged in operation and has an employee accident impact. Therefore, to prevent the occurrence of recurrence of risk assessment, including hazard identification, risk assessment and hazard control. The purpose of this study is to conduct risk assessment using the method of failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) on the Cane Knife production process tool in PT. X Lumajang District. This research is descriptive research. The target of this research is sugar production process at PT. X with the informant is 1 person Quality Control (QC), 1 person production operators and 1 supervisor. The results show that there are 6 (six) failure modes that occur in the cane knife tool. Based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN), the highest failure mode occurs is a broken clutch string. While for risk control, quite enough. This is because there have been risk control efforts include technical control that is the installation of safety valve, administrative control is the application of SOP for workers and personal protective equipment. But for personal protective equipment only safety helmet, for other companies do not provide. The conclusion that can be drawn is the need for better risk control, especially on the damage that occurred on the clutch rope broken tool cane knife. Keywords: cane knife, failure mode effect analysis, risk assessment

Informal workers in developing countries are exposed to various occupational hazards that may cause accidents, injuries, or diseases. Personal protective equipment (PPE) can be an essential tool for preventing workers from exposure to these hazards. Despite the widely acknowledged benefits of PPE usage, many informal automobile artisans in Nigeria do not use PPE. This study examines factors that predict PPE usage among these artisans, particularly their occupational risk perception. This cross-sectional study adopted a multistage method to select 632 automobile artisans (mechanics, panel beaters, painters, and vulcanizers) in Osun State, Nigeria. A questionnaire was used to obtain information on the dependent variable (the use of PPE) and the independent variables (occupational risk perception and risk tolerance). STATA 14 was used for the multivariate logistic regression analysis. Workers who perceive themselves at high risk of occupational health problems are more likely to use PPE (odds ratio [OR] = 2.1, p = .03), as are those who are very worried about getting accidents/illnesses (OR = 2.6, p = .03) or believe that these health problems are preventable (OR = 2.3, p = .01). Contrary to expectation, workers who experienced accidents/illnesses in the past are less likely to use PPE (OR = 0.3, p = .00) than those who did not. The established positive relationship between occupational risk perception and PPEs’ usage provides information to various stakeholders for designing safety programs that can reduce exposure to the occupational risks for informal automobile artisans in Nigeria.
