AbstractThis paper explores the definitions surrounding reputational risk in banking with the purpose of identifying the reputational risk factors and the efficient management that can forecast, minimize and evaluate them. Although the concept is not new, only recently has the banking system started to acknowledge the true implications of a negative reputation and has begun to focus on how to find ways to prevent and mitigate this risk. Before the last economic collapse, the banking management had used to have more knowledge about financial risks than about the non-financial ones, the reputational risk had been neglected or even confused with other types of risks. After the crisis it became critical to be aware of hazards that could cause reputation damage in order to develop a framework for managing reputational risk prior to an issue. The banking system has realized that reputation is the most valuable asset and has begun to invest in elaborating a proper risk management strategy.

This chapter is about a new security risk management strategy for financial services institutions. The proper strategy presented here takes the systematic and cybernetics theory as the instruction, regards the risk analysis process, the management strategy implementation, and the monitor and audit as an organic security management system. Thus the strategy is an auto adapted open system to defeat various safety threats dynamically. By comparing management of electronic commerce (e-commerce) security risks with that of traditional financial risks, this chapter suggests accurate security risk measurement using quantitative analysis and further integration of the e-commerce security risk with traditional financial risks.

Some of the recent large-scale national projects in South Korea are delayed or suspended due to belated responses to risk occurring on site. Currently, the Far East District (FED) project is being implemented to relocate the US Army bases from Yongsan to Pyeongtaek. Because of lack of experience and understanding about the characteristics of such a project, the deadline of taking over to the US Army Korea has been missed. This study identifies problems of each participant in the Yongsan Relocation Plan (YRP) of the US Army Korea with respect to construction project management and establishes a risk management strategy reflecting characteristics of FED project. To derive significant risk factors influencing YRP, various field data like weekly and monthly reports and other reports on construction condition are analyzed, and experts’ advices are collected and a survey is conducted. Mediators and latent variables are ultimately obtained. Furthermore, a structural equation model is used to both analyze and evaluate complex causal relations among many variables of YRP. The impact of risk factors on the schedule, quality and cost of the project is analyzed. In particular, the case of Site A is examined to see how the project is affected by those risk factors.

Physical risk assessments allow us to understand work-related critical issues, thus representing a useful tool in risk management strategies. In particular, our study focuses on the identification of already known and emerging physical risks related to necropsy and morgue activities, as well as crime scene investigations. The aim of our study is, therefore, to identify objective elements in order to quantify exposure to such risk factors among healthcare professionals and working personnel. For the research of potentially at-risk activities, data from the Morgue of Policlinico Umberto I Hospital in Rome were used. The scientific literature has been reviewed in order to assess the risks associated with morgue activity. Measurements were performed on previously scheduled days, in collaboration with the activities of different research units. The identified areas of risk were: microclimate; exposure to noise and vibrations; postural and biomechanical aspects of necropsy activities. The obtained results make it possible to detect interindividual variability in exposure to many of the aforementioned risk factors. In particular, the assessment of microclimate did not show significant results. On the contrary, exposure to vibrations and biomechanical aspects of load handling have shown potential risk profiles. For this reason, both profiles have been identified as possible action targets for risk management strategies.
