Many researchers have considered comics as an excellent educational resource, pointing out to its advantages and its great educational potential. As a result, few authors have investigated the attitudes of students towards comics and they are rarely used as a teaching material in Benin in the learning of foreign languages. In this study, we aim to examine the attitudes of Beninese students of Spanish as a Foreign Language towards comic, as well as offer a reflection on some of the possibilities that can bring this teaching resource. In doing this, we analyze data from 25 participants which was obtained from a questionnaire, interviews, and tasks around the comic. Conclusions show that: (a) most participants showed a positive attitude towards comics and are highly motivated; (b) the use of comics contributed to improving their linguistic and intercultural communicative competences, as well as revitalized the learning of the target language. Finally, the paper concludes by pointing out the study’s implications and limitations, and offering suggestions for future research opportunities.

This research investigates the interaction between English students learning Chinese in the UK and Chinese students learning English in China via a wiki platform. Activity theory and legitimate peripheral participation theory were employed as a theoretical framework; wiki was embedded as an interactive learning tool. The findings revealed that Chinese native speakers assisted English students learning Chinese as foreign language (CFL) by means of reorganizing word orders and restructuring sentence patterns. The usages of clarification and elaboration were more frequent than the usages of added and deleted information. Both CFL and English as foreign language (EFL) students interacted with each other in attending to language forms through the essay correction and revision process, and the interaction consequently enhanced their target language learning. The study suggests that wiki provides a dynamic platform, which encourages further integration into the syllabus to support foreign language learning.

Undergraduate engineering design students face the challenge of proving the durability of complex mechanical systems. Students are burdened with an excess of existing information. The key challenge lies in making a dry subject interesting to undergraduate students to increase fundamental skills and motivate students towards self-determined learning. This paper presents a newly developed didactic approach that uses interactive learning methods for courses with large student numbers to increase learning success. The novel learning concept focuses on improving student motivation using interactive learning methods to achieve the intended learning outcomes and promote selfdetermined learning. Learning methods within the interactive learning concept are applied to prove the durability of welded joints. The paper highlights experiences from teaching practice gained while using these novel interactive learning methods in large engineering courses of more than 900 undergraduate engineering design students.

ABSTRACT: Among innumerable digital offers for language learning, Duolingo has been the most downloaded app due to its gratuity and attractive design. Considering this fact, this research aims at answering the following question: (i) How do Duolingo’s users define their experiences with language learning and with the offers provided by the application? The methodology applied on this research is a qualitative-interpretative basis and some data were quantified. The corpus of the study is composed by collected data through a survey form answered by foreign language learners. The primary results point to a disagreement between discourse and practice in the app, and to a contradiction between the learning concept that the apprentices have and the proposals made by the app. KEYWORDS: mobile technology; Duolingo; language learning.
