Jatroidaine A (1), a new tetranortirucallane-type triterpene, and two known analogues (2−3) were isolated from the leaves and branches of Jatropha multifida. Their structures were fully elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods and comparison to known compounds. The absolute configuration of 1 was assigned by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. All compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) inhibitory activities. Unfortunately, no significant activity was observed.

One new 5α,8α-epidioxysterol, 3-acetylaxinysterol (1), along with one known sterol, axinysterol (2), were isolated from a Formosan sponge, Axinyssa sp.. The structures of the compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods and the absolute configuration of 2 was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis for the first time. Compound 2 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against K562 and Molt 4 cancer cell lines.

Chemical investigation of a crinoid Himerometra magnipinna has afforded three anthraquinones (1–3), including one new metabolite, (+)-rhodoptilometrin (1). The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of their spectroscopic data and the absolute configuration of 1 was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the in vitro anti-inflammatory effects test, compound 2 was found to significantly inhibit the accumulation of the pro-inflammatory iNOS protein of the LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells.

The reaction of [tBuN=VCp(PMe3)2] (1) with S8, Se, Te or I2 have been studied. Via this pathway dinuclear diamagnetic tert-butylimidovanadium(IV) complexes are formed: [(μ-E)(μ- NtBu)2V2Cp2] (E=S, Se, Te), [(μ-η1−E2)(μ-NtBu)2V2Cp2] {E=Se (3), Te}, [(μ-NtBu)2V2Cp2I2]. In addition the vanadium(V) complexes [tBuN=VCp (S5)] (9a) and tBuN=VCpI2 could be isolated. The synthesis of tBuN=VCpF2 is also described. All compounds obtained have been characterized by spectroscopic methods (MS; 1H, 13C, 51V NMR), 3 and 9b by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

A symmetrical flexible bis(phosphinoferrocene) derivative, viz. bis[1′-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyl]methane (1), was prepared and studied as a ligand in Pd(II) and Au(I) complexes. The reactions of 1 with [PdCl2(cod)] (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) and [Pd(μ-Cl)(LNC)]2 (LNC = [2-(dimethylamino-κN)methyl]phenyl-κC1) produced bis(phosphine) complex trans-[PdCl2(1-κ2P,P′)] (4), wherein the ligand spans trans positions in the square-planar coordination sphere of Pd(II) and the tetranuclear, P,P-bridged complex [(μ(P,P′)-1){PdCl(LNC)}2] (5), respectively. In reactions with the Au(I) precursors [AuCl(tht)] and [Au(tht)2][SbF6] (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), ligand 1 gave rise to tetranuclear Au2Fe2 complex [(μ(P,P′)-1)(AuCl)2] (6) and to symmetrical macrocyclic tetramer [Au4(μ(P,P′)-1)4][SbF6]4 (7). All compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods. In addition, the structures of compound 1, its synthetic precursor bis[1′-(diphenylphosphino)ferrocenyl]methanone (3), and all aforementioned Pd(II) and Au(I) complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (some in solvated form).

Dinuclear rhodium(I) η2:η2-cycloocta-1,5-diene (series a) and η2:η2-norborna-2,5-diene (series b) complexes with μ-RCOO- ligands, where R is linear C21H43 (complexes 1a, 1b), CH2CMe3 (2a, 2b), 1-adamantyl (3a, 3b) and benzyl (4a, 4b), have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Structures of complexes 2b, 3a and 4a were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complexes prepared show low to moderate catalytic activity in polymerization of phenylacetylene in THF giving high-cis-transoid polymers, but they show only oligomerization activity in dichloromethane.

AbstractTwo undescribed Tricholoma triterpenoids, namely tricholopardins C (1) and D (2), were isolated from the wild mushroom Tricholoma pardinum. Their structures with absolute configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, as well as the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 were further obtained by chemical conversions from the known analogues. Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxicity to MCF-7 and Hela cell lines with IC50 values of 4.7 μM and 9.7 μM, respectively. Its mechanism of inducing MCF-7 cell apoptosis was studied briefly.
