Here, four machine-learning models were employed to predict the redox potentials of phenazine derivatives in DME using DFT. A small dataset of 189 phenazine derivatives having only one type of functional group per molecule (20 unique groups) was used for the training. Models were validated on the external test-set containing new functional groups and diverse molecular structures and achieved reasonable accuracies (R2 > 0.57). Despite being trained on the molecules with a single type of functional group, models were able to predict the redox potentials of derivatives containing multiple and different types of functional groups with reasonable accuracy (R2 > 0.6). This type of performance for predicting redox potential from such a small and simple dataset of phenazine derivatives has never been reported before. Redox Flow Batteries (RFBs) are emerging as promising candidates for energy storage systems. However, new green and efficient materials are required for their widespread usage. We believe that the hybrid DFT-ML approach demonstrated in this report would help in accelerating the virtual screening of phenazine derivatives saving computational and experimental resources. This approach could potentially identify novel molecules for green energy storage systems such as RBF.

The hybrid energy storage systems are a practical tool to solve the issues in single energy storage systems in terms of specific power supply and high specific energy. These systems are especially applicable in electric and hybrid vehicles. Applying a dynamic and coherent strategy plays a key role in managing a hybrid energy storage system. The data obtained while driving and information collected from energy storage systems can be used to analyze the performance of the provided energy management method. Most existing energy management models follow predetermined rules that are unsuitable for vehicles moving in different modes and conditions. Therefore, it is so advantageous to provide an energy management system that can learn from the environment and the driving cycle and send the needed data to a control system for optimal management. In this research, the machine learning method and its application in increasing the efficiency of a hybrid energy storage management system are applied. In this regard, the energy management system is designed based on machine learning methods so that the system can learn to take the necessary actions in different situations directly and without the use of predicted select and run the predefined rules. The advantage of this method is accurate and effective control with high efficiency through direct interaction with the environment around the system. The numerical results show that the proposed machine learning method can achieve the least mean square error in all strategies.

Photovoltaic energy production is nowadays one of the hottest topics in the water industry as this green energy source is becoming more and more workable in countries like Spain, with high values of irradiance. In water pressurized systems supplying urban areas, they distribute energy consumption in pumps throughout the day, and it is not possible to supply electromechanical devices without energy storages such as batteries. Additionally, it is not possible to manage energy demand for water consumption. Researchers and practitioners have proven batteries to be reliable energy storage systems, and are undertaking many efforts to increase their performance, capacity, and useful life. Water pressurized networks incorporate tanks as devices used for accumulating water during low consumption hours while releasing it in peak hours. The compensation tanks work here as a mass and energy source in water pressurized networks supplied with photovoltaic arrays (not electricity grids). This work intends to compare which of these two energy storage systems are better and how to choose between them considering that these two systems involve running the network as a standalone pumping system without being connected to electricity grids. This work also calculates the intermediate results, considering both photovoltaic arrays and electricity grids for supplying electricity to pumping systems. We then analyzed these three cases in a synthetic network (used in earlier research) considering the effect of irradiation and water consumption, as we did not state which should be the most unfavorable month given that higher irradiance coincides with higher water consumption (i.e., during summer). Results show that there is no universal solution as energy consumption depends on the network features and that energy production depends very much on latitude. We based the portfolio of alternatives on investments for purchasing different equipment at present (batteries, pipelines, etc.) based on economic criteria so that the payback period is the indicator used for finding the best alternative, which is the one with the lowest value.

The aim of the article is to study the implementation of innovative projects for the use of renewable energy sources in the “economy of the future”. According to the concept of “green" energy transition, the following areas of "economy of the future" are identified: energy efficient industry, buildings, heat energy; electric transport; circulating economy, waste reduction; support for research and innovation on electricity storage, production and storage of green hydrogen; digitalization and technological changes; renewable energy sources – wind, solar, bioenergy. It is proved that renewable energy sources can meet 80% growth in electricity demand over the next 10 years. By 2025, renewable energy sources will displace coal as the main means of electricity generation. If states adopt more aggressive policies, the role of renewable energy will be even more active in the next five years. It is proved that it is important to create an appropriate market environment to attract large-scale private investment in innovative renewable energy projects. After all, without sufficient investment, networks will be a weak link in the transformation of the electricity sector, which will affect the reliability and security of electricity supply. The transition to renewable energy sources in the general energy supply, including transport and heating, is most active in large cities. To transition the city to the “green” energy, the issues of attracting investment, changing consumer behavior, integration of electricity with heat supply and transport, the state of existing energy infrastructure (electricity, gas, heating networks), distribution of energy consumption between sectors (buildings, mobility) and players in supply (large energy companies, enterprises, cooperatives). The research of the basic tendencies of realization of projects of use of renewable energy sources in Ukraine is carried out. To ensure competitive conditions for the production of electricity from alternative energy sources, the introduction of incentive mechanisms and the installation of capacities for the accumulation of electricity at power plants is envisaged. Financial support for renewable energy at the state level is provided in two areas: tax benefits and credit support. Among the tax benefits and mechanisms in world practice are the following: investment tax credit; production tax credit; mechanism of partial or full compensation of interest for the use of loans by industrial companies and individual farms for the installation of energy storage systems; mechanism for exemption from taxation of imported equipment for energy storage systems, etc. However, Ukraine has not yet taken sufficient legislative and diplomatic steps to do so. Important are the problems of balancing the network, defaults and debts to market participants, the restructuring of the “green” tariff.
