Baby corn is an exhaustive cereal in terms of nutrients absorbance from soil and thus soil become easily loss it’s beneficial physical and chemical properties. To maintain soil health during cereal production like baby corn both chemical and organic sources of fertilizers can be used, thus a study was executed at the agronomy field of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in the year of 2017-2018 to find out the growth performances and their impact on corn yield of baby corn as affected by varieties and different sources of nitrogen fertilizer. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Completely Block Design with three replications with two factors where two varieties viz., BARI Sweet corn-1 (V1) and Baby star (V2) acted as Factor A and five sources of nitrogen fertilizer viz.,100% recommended N from urea (N1), 75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung (N2), 50% N from urea + 50% N from cowdung (N3), 75% N from urea + 25% N from poultry manure (N4), 50% N from urea + 50% N from poultry manure (N5) acted as Factor B. The highest plant height (153.0 cm), number of leaves per plant (7.33), leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD value 38.68), (TDM) (40.60 g plant-1), corn yield (3520 kg ha-1) were recorded in the interaction between Baby star when fertilized with N2 (75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung). All the growth parameters showed strong positive correlation with corn yield. The highest harvest index (0.075) was observed when BARI Sweet corn-1 was cultivated with N2 (75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung). Therefore, it may be concluded that for better growth performance and for better corn yield Baby star is the promising baby corn variety when cultivated with (75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung) for better growth performances and maximization of baby corn yield.

Maize as well as baby corn is an exhaustive crop in terms of nutrient and water uptake from soil hence soil health become deteriorate easily and as different amounts and forms of nutrient supply in baby corn affect the productivity of baby corn so combination of organic and inorganic sources of nutrient is beneficial for soil heath and to maximize the productivity of baby corn thus an experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during November 2017 to February 2018 to investigate the effect of varieties and sources of nitrogen fertilizer on yield and yield contributing characters of baby corn. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The experiment consisted of two varieties viz., BARI Sweet corn-1(V1), Baby star (V2) and five sources of nitrogen fertilizer viz.,100% recommended N from urea(N1),75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung (N2), 50% N from urea + 50% N from cowdung (N3), 75% N from urea + 25% N from poultry manure(N4),50% N from urea + 50% N from poultry manure(N5).Yield and yield contributing characters of baby corn were significantly influenced by variety, sources of nitrogen fertilizer and their interactions. The highest number of cob plant-1 (1.67), cob length (13.50 cm), cob girth(3.84 cm), cob yield with husk (14.66 t ha-1), cob yield without husk (3.52 t ha-1), and fresh fodder yield (42.50 t ha-1) were recorded when Baby star was fertilized with N2 (75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung) treatment. Therefore, it may be concluded that Baby star is the promising baby corn variety when coupled with (75% N from urea + 25% N from cowdung) for maximizing baby corn production and improving soil health.

The objective of this study was to evaluate effects of three irrigation regimes on the growth characteristics and commercial yield of drip-irrigated sweet corn. A field experiment was established in the winter of 1985-86 at the Fortuna substation, Juana Díaz, on the semiarid south coast of Puerto Rico. A randomized complete block design with three irrigation levels (wet = T1, moist = T2, dry = T3) based upon tensiometers at 15-, 30- and 45-cm soil depth, respectively. Treatments were replicated four times. A low pressure biwall drip irrigation system was used. Commercial sweet corn yield was 6487.0, 5034.8 and 3879.6 kg/ha in the T1, T2, and T3 plots, respectively. The wet treatment (T1) yielded significantly more than T2 and T3 at P = 0.05. Increases were 28.9 and 67.3% compared with T2 and T3, respectively. T3 caused a reduction of 41% in the number of ears per hectare. The average weight and length of ears were not significantly different at P = 0.05. Weekly fresh and dry plant weight, fresh and dry total weight, plant height, length of ear versus days after planting relationships were of sigmoidal type. Coefficient of correlation and regression coefficients were significant at P = 0.05.

Field trials were carried out during 2018 and during 2019 dry season periods at Federal College of Forestry and Mechanization Afaka Kaduna, located between latitude 10° 35”N and longitude 007° 21”E at altitude 644 m above sea level, to determine the effects of organic manure source and weeding frequencies on growth parameters of jute mallow (Corchorus olitorious). The experimental treatments consists of ten combinations of poultry manure + weed free, cow dung + weed free, goat dropping + weed free, poultry manure + weeding at 2 WAT, cow dung + weeding at 2 WAT, goat dropping + weeding at 2 WAT, poultry manure + weeding at 4 WAT, cow dung + weeding at 4 WAT, goat dropping + weeding at 4 WAT and  no organic manure application + no weeding which were laid out in a randomize complete block design (RCBD) and replicated 3 times The growth parameters observed  and measured were crop vigour score, plant height, shoot diameter, number of leaves and number of  primary branches. Result of the study showed that at harvest (8 WAT) all the treatments significantly affected the vigour of jute mallow crop and gave comparable score than the least observed with no nutrient + no weeding as control. The result revealed that plant growth at harvest exhibited significantly taller plant with application of poultry manure + weeding at 2 WAT. In conclusion the result obtained from the study showed that poultry manure at 4 tons /ha + weeding at 4 WAT resulted in taller plant height, wider shoot diameter, increased number of leaves, number of branches than all other treatment due to lower weed infestation, it is therefore recommended as the best treatment combination to obtained the best growth rate of jute mallow.

Water crisis is assuming a more explosive and dangerous phenomenon due to stiff competition and demand between domestic use and agricultural activities. Farmer friendly and affordable indigenous water harvesting structure was developed and evaluated for the Farming systems research citrus expansion orchard at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan. The structure, made of bamboo materials and polyethylene sheets was constructed to harvest rainstorm and stored in plastic reservoirs between September and October 2007. The aim was to apply the water for drip irrigation of young citrus seedlings during the dry months of November until the on-set of rainfall. Six thousand litres of water were harvested. Drip irrigation system was connected to the rainstorm harvester to facilitate application of water to the young citrus seedlings planted at 7m by 5m spacing. Water application at the drip rate of 2.4 l/hr was done in split-plot fitted into randomized complete block design at one, twice and thrice per week with three replications under four fertilizer sources (poultry, horse, cow manures and urea fertilizer). Base line growth data for citrus at the initial watering stage stands at 139 for number of leaves, 83.5 cm for plant height, and 12.3 mm for stem diameter. Watering thrice per week under poultry manure was found to produce the best growth parameters. Generally, the structure was discovered to be cost effective, water saving, adoptable and affordable by farmers with little or no maintenance or educational background.

Abstract. Sweet corn production in Indonesia can be increased by intensification program, such as the use of superior cultivars, the use of balanced fertilizer, and the use of organic fertilizer. Objective of the research was to study Integrated Crop Management System, that related to use of fermented organic fertilizer (bokashi) which suitable to sweet corn crop, especially in lowland area of Karawang district. The method of research was experiment. The experimental design was Randomized Block Design, that consisted of 16 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were 4 bokashi dosage (0, 5, 10 and 15 ton ha-1) combined with 4 varieties of F1 sweet corn (Bonanza, Talenta , Secada and Sweet Boy). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Duncan multiple-range test at 5%. The results show that bokashi dosage had given difference on plant height, number of leaves per plant, diameter of the stem, weight of ears, number of grain rows, and yield. Dosages of 10 tons ha-1 bokashi gave the best growth and sweet corn yield of Sweet Boy F1 varieties on Integrated Crop Management System. Keywords: Sweet Corn, Bokashi, CMS. Sari. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari sistem pengelolaan tanaman terpadu, yang berhubungan dengan penggunaan pupuk orga-nik bokashi yang cocok pada tanaman jagung manis, khususnya di dataran rendah Karawang. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan percobaan. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok, terdiri dari 16 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari 4 dosis bokashi (0, 5, 10 dan 15 ton ha-1)  yang dikombinasikan dengan 4 varietas jagung manis F1(Bonanza, Talenta , Secada dan Sweet Boy). Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis varians dan uji jarak berganda Duncan pada taraf 5%. Hasil menunjukkan perlakuan dosis bokashi memberikan perbedaan pada tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, diameter batang, berat tongkol, jumlah baris biji, dan hasil. Dosis bokashi 10 ton ha-1 memberikan pertumbuhan dan hasil terbaik jagung manis varietas Sweet Boy pada sistem Pengelolaan Tanaman Terpadu. Kata kunci: Jagung Manis, Bokashi, Pengelolaan Tanaman Terpadu

This study aimed to examine Organonitrofos Plus fertilizer (OP) on sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata L.) and its effect on changes in soil chemical properties of Ultisols. Organonitrofos Plus fertilizer is an enhancement of Organonitrofos fertilizer enriched with microbes at the beginning of the manufacturing process. Research was conducted in the greenhouse of Integrated Agricultural Laboratory of Lampung University. Treatment applied was a factorial of 4 × 2 × 3 with three replications in a randomized block design. The first factor was the dose of OP fertilizer (0, 10, 20, 30 Mg ha-1), the second factor was the dose of inorganic fertilizers (without inorganic fertilizers, and with inorganic fertilizers, namely Urea 0.44, 0.28 SP-36 and KCl 0.16 Mg ha-1), and the third factor was the dose of biochar (0, 10, 20 Mg ha-1). By a single OP fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, and the interaction between the OP and the inorganic fertilizers increased the weight of dry stover, cob length, cob diameter, cob with husk and cob without husk of corn. OP fertilizers which are applied in Ultisols can improve soil fertility and increase corn production so that OP fertilizer can lessen the use of inorganic fertilizer and can be used as a substitute for inorganic fertilizer. RAE values were highest in treatment of O4K2B2 (30 Mg OP ha-1, with inorganic fertilizer, 10 Mg biochar ha-1) that was equal to 181%, followed by O2K2B3 (10 Mg OP ha-1, with inorganic fertilizer, 20 Mg biochar ha-1 ) with the difference in RAE value of 0.5%. Manures are more environment-friendly and effective in improving soil fertility, hence their recent preference over inorganic fertilizers. Poultry manure is believed to be the most valuable manure produced by livestock. However, the application had always been only before sowing, unlike the inorganic fertilizers that are, generally, applied after sowing/planting of crops. Therefore, the effects of broiler droppings applied at different rates and times were evaluated on seed germination, growth and yield of leaf amaranths, during the raining season of year 2019. Broilers droppings were applied at 0, 30 and 50 tha-1, at 1 and 2 week (-s) before sowing, at sowing and 1 and 2 (week)s after sowing of amaranth seeds. The experiment was factorial and treatments were replicated thrice in a randomized complete block design. Growth parameters measured were: Plant height, number of leaves, stem girth, leaf area, number of germinated seeds , and yield were measured at 7, 8 and 9 weeks after sowing (WAS). The data generated were subjected to ANOVA at α0.05. At 7 WAS, application of 50 tha-1 manure at sowing produced the highest plant height (17 cm), stem girth (7.40 cm), number of harvested stands (18.33) and marketable yield (7.95 tha-1) with significant differences. At 8 WAS, the highest yield (5.83 tha-1 was obtained from plots treated with 30 tha-1 of poultry dung applied at 2 weeks before sowing while more seeds (27) germinated on both plots treated with 50 t/ha of broiler droppings applied at sowing and 1 WAS. The best recorded values for number of germinated seeds (27) and yield (2.83 tha-1) at 9 WAS were obtained from 50 tha-1 of broiler droppings applied at sowing. 50 t/ha of broiler droppings, at sowing compared well with poultry droppings applied at any rate before sowing.

Papaya is a very popular fruit in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world and has witnessed an increase in demand. This has fuelled an interest to develop region specific hybrids with desirable vegetative growth and vigour.  Hence a field experiment was carried out at College of horticulture and forestry, Navsari Agricultural University in Gujarat during 2018-2020 in randomized block design with three replications to know the mean performance of parents and hybrids for comparative growth performances of papaya. Wherein, thirty papaya hybrids were developed from six morphologically distinct parents through full diallel crossing technique and all the parents and hybrids were evaluated for their germination and growth parameters. The variability was distinct in all hybrids and parents for germination percentage, days taken to germination, periodical plant height and girth, number of leaves, petiole length and internodal distance. Amongst all the parents, Pusa Delicious, CO-8 and Lucknow Local exhibited improved germination, better vegetative growth and dwarf stature, respectively. Among the hybrids, Pusa Delicious x Lucknow Local was found to have dwarf stature with minimum internodal length however, the reciprocal cross: Lucknow Local x Pusa Delicious recorded maximum plant girth and number of leaves. Based on their mean performance, these parents can be used for further breeding programmes and hybrids could be exploited for cultivation.

Application of animal manures for soil amendment plays a major role in the improvement of soil properties and enzymatic activities of a degraded Ultisol. This study assessed the effects of poultry manure (PM) and swine manure (SM) on the activities of catalase and urease enzymes and some soil properties. The PM and SM were applied at the rate of 30 t ha–1 each on experimental plots arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Soil samples were collected at day 0, 14, 28, 42, 56, 70 and 84 from 0-15 and 15-30 cm depths and analyzed for catalase and urease enzymes and some soil properties using standard procedures. The results showed increase in soil pH (in H2O) from 4.0 to 5.4 following manure application. At 0-15 cm soil depth, PM and SM recorded 28.1 and 28.8% increases in soil pH (in H2O), respectively. Soil organic carbon was highest (2.6 g kg–1) at 0-15 cm depth for soil amended with SM while the lowest value of 1.1 g kg–1was obtained at 15-30 cm depth for soil unamended with SM. In PM-amended soil, catalase activities ranged from 1.32 to 6.77 mg g–1 while its activities in SM-treated soil significantly (p < 0.05) varied between 1.55 and 8.11 mg g–1. Urease showed ranges of 0.72-3.90 mg g–1 and 0.96-4.71 mg g–1 in PM-amended and SM-treated soils, respectively. The results uphold that animal manures improve soil properties and are enzymatically controlled.

This study examined the effects of moringa leaf extract (MLE) and poultry manure (PM) on the growth parameters of sweet maize. The experiment was a Randomized Complete Block Design involving nine treatments: control (no extract), 3% MLE, 6% MLE, 9% MLE, 3% MLE + 15 t/ha–1 PM, 6% MLE + 15 t/ha–1 PM, 9% MLE + 15 t/ha–1 PM, 15 t/ha–1 PM, and 30 t/ha–1 PM. Data on growth parameters including plant height, number of leaves per plant, stem girth, and leaf area were collected and analyzed. The results of the study show that there were significant differences (P = 0.05) among the treatments because plots that received 30 t/ha–1 PM performed best on plant height (193.6 and 152.8 cm) number of leaves (13.1 and 10.2), stem girth (3.75 and 3.22 cm), and leaf area (584.9 and 402.9 cm2) in both early and late season. This was followed by plots that received 9% MLE and 15 t/ha–1 PM, with values of 189.0 and 152.2 cm; 12.5 and 10.0; 3.58 3.15 cm; and 546.2 and 392.2 cm2, respectively. The study concluded that 30 t/ha–1 PM can be used to yield effective growth parameters in sweet maize and is hereby recommended to extension workers for dissemination to farmers
