Ecological study of epiphytic ferns growing on bamboo species in Bogor Botanic Gardens, a man-made ecosystem located in a wet lowland area was carried out. The 350 phorophytes of 35 bamboo clumps belonging to 9 species and 3 genera were observed. Each culm was divided into intervals of 1 m from ground level to a height of 3 m. A total of 1984 individuals belonging to 12 species, nine genera, and six families of epiphytic ferns were recorded, with the highest species richness in Polypodiaceae (7 spp.). Dendocalamus giganteus Munro was the best host for epiphytic ferns (9 spp.). Two dominant species, Asplenium nidus L. and Davallia denticulata (Burm.f.) Mett. ex Kuhn with the same frequency value (97.14%), and relative species abundance of 31.49 individuals per clump and 14.94 individuals per clump, showed the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) of 83.19 and 54.00%, respectively. The first one-meter level of bamboo culms hosted all the species. Pyrrosia piloselloides (L.) Price was the only species that grew until the highest intervals of height with a decreasing frequency from the bottom. Bangladesh J. Bot. 50(4): 1095-1107, 2021 (December)

Tourism is a device of economic development in developed, developing, and even in underdeveloped countries. The AHP based MCDA techniques used for detection and delineation of the tourism potential zones in the coastal area of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra (India). The conventional and satellite data viz. ASTER data has been used for spatial analysis in GIS software. Seacoast, elevation, slope, river, LULC, available amenities, accessibility and connectivity, cultural and historical places, and density of settlements used as the criterions for detection of potential zones for tourism activities. The experts’ opinions, literature survey and fieldwork used as the source of information for the selection of criterions and determination of ranks. The weighted overlay technique used to find the comparative levels of tourism potentials: very high, high, moderate and less potentials for tourism. About 13% of TGA shows comparatively very high tourism potential, 25.80% shows high, 54.62 % shows moderate, and 6.57 % shows less tourism potential. The overall accuracy of the categorized map estimated about 89.60%. The thematic maps viz. amenities and settlement were processed using inverse distance weighted (IWD) interpolation technique. Therefore, some areas from the category, ‘high potential’ merged in the category, ‘moderate potential’ and reduced the producer’s accuracy of the classified map. The sandy beaches, lowland area with a gentle slope, river landscape features, road network, cultural and historical places, ideal size of settlements and number of amenities are attractions of tourists in the region. The technique used in this study can be an effective apparatus for precise analysis of site suitability for tourism activities.

Abstract:. West Java has so many topographical area, such as highland (mountain), low land (valley) and coastal area. All of these areas have differently influenced the typology of building system, which coming from their knowledge of local material, cultures, and technology, which have been delivered from their generation.  The knowledge has been developed by times with trial and error process and become the local knowledge of this area (specific area). This paper will be elaborating the buildings (houses) on this 3 topographical area, with focusing on 3 systems of the building (house): lower, upper, and middle system. 3 parts of these building have been observed and created to propose the mapping of construction joint system. On this paper, the map of contraction system (which related to the area) has been explored on 3 traditional villages in West Java: Panjalin village at Majalengka District (located at coastal area), Cikondang village at Bandung District (located at highland area), and Mahmud Village at Bandung District (located at lowland area).Abstrak: Jawa Barat mempunyai geografis yang beragam, terdiri dari area pantai, dataran tinggi (pegunungan) dan dataran rendah.

Abstract Tidal swamps which are widespread in lowland areas have the potential to be used for agricultural activities. The amount of rain potential available in this type of land can be used to supply water for irrigation purposes so that plants grow optimally. However, the tidal potential especially on the peat swamps area may have a negative impact, namely the occurrence of nutrient leaching from the soil, which is harmful to plants. Rasau Jaya, a tidal lowland area with peat swamp soil characteristic, is an area allocated for rice and corn cultivation. The study was conducted with the aim to determine the physical potential and constraints of land and water management in Rasau Jaya for the cultivation of both types of plants. This research was conducted through field observations and measurements as well as laboratory tests and model scale to evaluate the characteristics of existing land quality based on Land Suitability Classification by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The result of this study shows that characteristics of water availability in Rasau Jaya is classified as Class S1 Highly Suitable for rice and corn crops, while existing conditions of land in Rasau Jaya III are generally classified in the S2 class Moderately Suitable for rice and corn crops. Appropriate land management is needed to increase land productivity for the cultivation of the Rasau Jaya’s assigned priority crops.

Rice is the most important food crop. With the largest rain-fed lowland area in the world, flooding is considered as the most important abiotic stress to rice production in India. With climate change, it is expected that the frequency and severity of the floods will increase over the years. These changes will have a severe impact on the rain-fed agriculture production and livelihoods of millions of farmers in the flood affected region. There are numerous flood risk adaptation and mitigation options available for rain-fed agriculture in India. Procuring, maintaining and distributing the newly developed submergence-tolerant rice variety called Swarna-Sub1 could play an important role in minimizing the effect of flood on rice production. This paper assesses the quantity and cost of a flood-tolerant rice seed variety- Swarna-Sub1, that would be required during the main cropping season of rice i.e., kharif at a district level for 17 major Indian states. The need for SS1 seeds for rice production was assessed by developing a geospatial framework using remote sensing to map the suitability of SS1, to help stakeholders prepare better in managing the flood risks. Results indicate that districts of Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh will require the highest amount of SS1 seeds for flood adaptation strategies. The total estimated seed requirement for these 17 states would cost around 370 crores INR, less than 0.01 percent of Indian central government’s budget allocation for agriculture sector.

Infrastructure in the form of bridges is very important for Buntok Regency in Central Kalimantan where the area is swampy or lowland area. Total wood bridge construction is 45% from total 163 bridge in this area that most of them are not proper condition considering some wood materials need to be replaced. The innovation has been created to find the effective way how to maintenance the wooden bridge that has been idle for long time due to broken material on superstructure of the bridge. The floor of bridge that constructed with previous materials of ulin wooden bridge replaced by composite materials with floordeck concrete combination. The implementation of Tampa Bridge maintenance innovation showed better performance in terms of safety, comfortable and smoothness of bridge users from community around. In terms of budget aspect, the maintenance is cumulatively more efficient than if carrying out floor changes every year considering no longer possible to find ulin wood anymore. On technical point of view, with reinforced concrete can be applied to wooden bridges selectively only on ulin wooden bridges whose substructure is still intact and only minor damage to the spoorband and floor occurs. Bridge maintenance procedures need to be create to keep better maintenance for longer life time of the existing bridge that can be applied for another wooden bridge for maintenance.
