Our experience as teachers of a public university with multi-level classes with students of different levels of English knowledge, abilities or backgrounds; where educators must face the challenge of multi-level classrooms, such as finding the appropriate teaching strategy, resources and materials; showed that it was necessary to explore the benefits of Cooperative Learning as a way to transform the multi-level class from a challenge into an advantage. In the present paper, the role of Cooperative Learning as an effective tool to teach reading in an EFL multi-level class is investigated. The following literature review attempts to demonstrate this theory and hopes that the information gathered from this study would assist educational authorities to review the curriculum with the aim of incorporating reading comprehension cooperative learning strategies in multilevel classes.

At the dawn of a new European Green Deal (EGD), it is necessary to reconsider the plans and actions that have characterized the European energy policies during recent decades by tuning and updating the priorities and targets. The present work moves from the systematic review of the documents, laws, and scientific studies concerning energy and climate initiatives to the analysis of the role of the Strategic Energy and Technology Plan (SET Plan) in the energy transition. Thus, the principal research question addresses the influence of the SET Plan on multi-level energy policies. To answer this, firstly, the juridical framework in which the SET Plan was instituted is provided; secondly, its correlation to the upcoming EDG is described and the targets identified by each Implementation Working Group (IWG) are discussed. Such a dissertation is followed by the investigation of the activities at various levels from the IWG on Renewable Fuels and Bioenergy. The study has confirmed that the SET Plan contributed to shaping the energy and climate policy at European, national, and regional levels by implementing synergies among different levels of governance, different sectors, and various stakeholders (both public and private). Furthermore, it eased the sharing of data on flagship projects by periodically monitoring the achieved results.

AbstractThe study investigated the effect of two cooperative learning strategies, Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) and Think-Pair-Share (TPS) on senior secondary school students’ achievement in reading comprehension in Vandeikya Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria. A total of 78 students (43 males and 35 females), drawn from three secondary schools participated in the study. Experimental and control conditions were randomly assigned to the three intact classes: EG1 (STAD), EG2 (TPS) and CG (Control Group). The instrument used was Reading Comprehension Achievement Test (r=0.784). Data were analyzed using Mean, Standard Deviation and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results show higher achievement gains for students in the EG1 and EG2 over those of the CG, but not across gender. The findings support the existing evidence on the efficacy of cooperative learning over the traditional teaching method. English language teachers will therefore find the two techniques useful in teaching reading comprehension.   Keywords: cooperative learning, Student Teams-Achievement Divisions, Think-Pair-Share, academic achievement, reading comprehension

A federal economy is usually characterised by the emergence of imbalances between functional responsibilities and financial resources of different tiers of government. Vertical imbalances in terms of resources and expenditure responsibilities emerge between different levels of government calling for transfer of resources from the Centre to the States. Thus, intergovernmental transfers are an inherent part of a multi-level fiscal system. In India, Finance Commission constitutes an important channel of Central transfers to the states. This paper looks at the role of Finance Commission regarding the devolution of taxes between the Center and the States from the divisible pool. In particular, the paper focuses on the Fourteenth Finance Commission FFC that has made far-reaching changes in tax devolution that will move the country towards greater cooperative as well as competitive federalism.

The study investigated the effect of two cooperative learning strategies (the student teams-achievement divisions and think–pair–share methods) on students’ interest in reading comprehension. Seventy-eight senior secondary II students were randomly selected from three schools in Vandeikya Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria. A pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design was adopted. The Interest in Reading Inventory (<em>R </em>= 0.09) was the instrument used. Two hypotheses were tested at .05 levels of significance. Three intact classes were randomly assigned as Experimental Group 1, Experimental Group 2, and the control group. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and analysis of covariance was used to test the hypothesis. The results showed significant main effect of treatment on students’ interest in reading comprehension, <em>F</em>(1,51) = 3.743, <em>p </em>< .05. Students exposed to Student Teams-Achievement Divisions program performed better than those in the control group. Furthermore, Think–Pair–Share has significant effect on students’ interest in reading comprehension, <em>F</em>(1,51) = 18.018, <em>p </em>< .05). Thus, cooperative learning has shown to be effective in improving students’ interest in reading comprehension.

ICT can promote the cooperative learning that is a teaching strategy where small teams, each composed by students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Recent studies emphasized that the computer can play a central role in a teaching environment based on cooperative learning. This chapter focuses on an educational experience that analyses 45 high school students’ cognitive abilities while they are developing a database that contains their school evaluations and which will be available online. This educational approach used cooperative learning and the “Learning by Doing” environment. The database has been protected with passwords to different levels of priority (e.g., principal, school manager, parents, and students). The project involved three classrooms of the fifth year (students aged 18 to 20) in the Laboratory of System and Techniques of Transmission in a High School in Italy.

The design-based research methodology explicates how design not only allowed more effective student representation and sharing of the different levels of knowledge required for abstraction to occur, but also enabled better teacher assessment and, hence, remediation also provides detailed guidance on creating interactive content (from the application of learning strategies and media to courseware development). On the basis of the emerging findings of the study a set of principles for designing web-conferencing (or other online) environments to support creative design learning is proposed. This mainly addresses trainers and instructional designers who aim to create learning projects that really match learners’ needs, was considered appropriate and suitable for the students to develop their reading comprehension. This interactive and interesting design would increase the students’ motivation to learn reading comprehension in fun environment. It is expected that they could change their habit of the learning by accessing the exercises regularly as the mediaKeywords: Weblog, Hot Potatoes Sofware, Skype Messengers, and Reading Comprehension

Abstract:This paper through deductive descriptive method aims at presenting a clear picture of cooperative learning approach in terms of its concept, foundations, strategies, categories and role of each of the teacher and learner in executing its steps. The positive aspects of this learning approach in learning Arabic as a foreign language is also discussed. The researcher presents practical application to learn Arabic as a second language. The results had proven the extent of the effectiveness of this approach in learning Arabic as second language due to its focus on group collaboration. This is possible since language itself is a social phenomenon in the first place and group work gives the learner to mix with his friends to practice language without the barriers of fear or shyness. It is also a platform to practice an educational view that sees that the learner learns more from his colleagues than his teacher hence validating the effectiveness of cooperative learning. Keywords: Cooperative Learning –Groups – Strategies – Teacher – Learner.
