ABSTRACTIn Indonesia teaching English at primary schools aims to introduce English language as a foreign language. The policy of Departemen Pendidikan Nasional, No.0487/14/1992, Chapter VIII and Undang-undang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional, No.060/U/1993 explains that English can be incorporated into the curriculum of local content at primary schools. The English proficiency of primary school graduates should be appopriate and useful to prepare the to learn English at the higher level. Students of primary schools are young learners who have their own characteristics. Young learners take great pleasure in playing games. Therefore, teaching English for primary schools students must be well designed in accordance with the characteristics of the students. This study is a survey that aims to investigate teachers’ perspectives of teaching English to young learners in Kudus. Further, it inspects their problems in teaching English in their schools. A questionnaire is distributed to the targeting primary school teachers in Kudus. The result reveals that there are 67% of the teachers who agreed that English is appropriately  taught at primary schools, while 33% of the teachers disagreed. Teachers’ problems in teaching English to primary schools students, among others are the limited time allotments, students’ proficiencies in vocabulary and pronunciation, students’ interests, limited facilities, textbook, media and learning materials, and too many students in the classroom. Besides, the primary school students are young learners who are very active and like to break the rules.

The Ranau Earthquake that struck on 5 June 2015, February 2018, and April 2021, were a new disaster in Sabah and caused many Sabahan to panic. The unpredicted disaster also caused a serious impact on all aspects of life in Sabah. The earthquake has caused severe damage to eight primary schools in the vicinity of the epicenter, although no casualties were reported. However, the disaster has deep passing psychological effects among students. In this study, we examine how the primary school teachers enabled the student to be resilient during and after the disaster. Based on the interviews with 16 primary school students, it was revealed that most of the teachers used WhatsApp to support resilience during and after the earthquake. Interviews with 16 primary school teachers revealed there were two main reasons for them to communicate with students, namely, delivering emotional aid and monitoring their stress. Based on student interviews, five content categories of emotional support were identified: caring, reassuring, emotion sharing, belonging, and distracting. The main contribution of this study is that social media can be used as a spontaneous and proactive tool for supporting the student’s resilience during and after the earthquake trauma.

The report discusses traditional singing games in English and the benefits of their use in teaching English as a foreign language, especially in teaching modules developed according to the interests of primary school students. A review of scholarly articles has been made and some conclusions about using singing games in teaching and learning English as a foreign language has been presented.

Foreign language learning styles are aimed at facilitating students' learning and therefore the teaching style used is important in terms of matching learners' styles to their educational needs. The present study was aimed at investigating several dimensions of primary school students' language learning styles and the ways in which certain styles are shaped and favored by teachers' teaching styles. The primary aim was to find out whether or not the measures taken by the Turkish Ministry of Education regarding rectifying the shortage of teachers of English as a foreign language have had an effect on the learning styles of primary school students. The secondary aim was to examine the varying learning styles of EFL students in two primary schools and to establish whether or not there has been a change in these learning styles. Finally, the researcher examined whether or not the economic conditions of the schools had an influence on the students' learning styles.

The article deals with the conceptual provisions of innovative pedagogical technology of teaching mathematics to primary school students «Daily 3», which considers students' interest in mathematics, developing their skills of independence, ability to work in a team and communicate by engaging in various activities. Theoretical principles of conducting mathematics independently, mathematics with a friend and mathematics writing are revealed. The generalized algorithm of conducting «Daily 3» is given and the structure of such lesson is presented. Factors that prevent the full implementation of the technology «Daily 3» in Ukrainian primary schools are analyzed. The optimal way of future primary school teachers training for realization of this technology is offered. It consists in considering within the discipline «Methods of teaching the educational field of mathematics» its elements, and while studying the discipline of free choice «Methods of teaching mathematics: technological approach» detailed disclosure of didactic and methodological foundations of mathematics independently, mathematics with a friend and mathematics in writing.

This study aimed at investigating teachers’ perceptions about natural approach in teaching English for young learners and its implementation in public primary schools in Gianyar Regency, particularly on teachers’ perceptions on natural approach in teaching English for young learners, how the English teachers implement naturalistic values in teaching English as a foreign language in Gianyar regency, and teachers’ perceptions about naturalistic values for young learners related to the strategies in teaching English as a foreign language in classroom. The subjects of the study were 3 English teachers in 3 different public elementary schools in Gianyar Regency. The research design of the study was mixed methods. This study used three instruments: observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews. The observation sheet was used to find out how teachers implemented the naturalistic values in teaching English for young learners. The questionnaire was used to find out teachers’ perceptions on natural approach and the interview was used to find out how teachers’ perceptions related to their strategies in teaching English for young learners in their classrooms. This study showed that the relation between teachers’ perceptions and the implementation found that there were few results indicated inconsistency between both of them. The data were also supported by the result of interviews.

The article deals with the role songs play in formation of the foreign grammatical communicative competence of young learners during the English lessons. The age groups are identified and peculiarities of English as a foreign language learning for every age group are outlined with special stress on young learners as the target age group. Young learners (students at the age of 6-10) have limited attention spam, that is why tasks have to be short, various and meaningful, grammar explanation should be avoided while grammatical patterns should be presented indirectly through interactive contexts. On the basis of identified needs and preferences in learning basic principles of presentation and practicing of grammatical patterns among young learners are revealed in the article. It is focused on teaching methods and techniques suitable for the target age group, among which total physical response teaching method and storytelling are chosen as the most productive ones. The article also reveals benefits of a foreign language acquisition rather than learning and overviews principles to be followed in order to create the process of acquisition in and beyond the classroom. Songs and short rhymes are chosen as an easy to remember way to present grammatical patterns. While singing songs young learners unconsciously remember not separate words but complete grammatically correct phrases or sentences and will be able to use them in other language context. Such way of presentation enables learners of primary school to develop grammatical communicative competence without direct learning. The article gives the procedure how to implement songs to develop grammatical competence of young learners.

In this study, I investigated the teachers' current practice without curriculum of English lesson at primary schools and teacher's response to the new policy on English lessons in primary school. The participants of this study were 46 respondents which consist of 17 males and 29 females. The data was obtained by distributing an open-ended question to teachers who teach in a primary school in Jember district of East Java. The questionnaire was administered to the teacher to be filled in directly. The first finding showed that most of the teachers agreed that teachers should be qualified, teachers need appropriate teaching media for students, and most of the students are very enthusiastic in learning English. The second finding about the teacher's response to the new policy on English lessons in primary school showed that most teachers expected the government to return the English language policy to be taught in primary school as a compulsory subject. Conclusion, the current practices of teaching English in primary school are divided into three parts, 1) most the teachers who involve become sample in this study agreed that the teachers should be qualified in teaching English in primary school, 2) most the teachers needed teaching media appropriate for the students in primary school, 3) most the students were very enthusiastic about learning English. This study explored the relationship between cognitive styles and achievement in English as a foreign language (EFL). To this end, the Goodenough-Harris Drawing Test, consisting of draw a woman test (DAWT) and draw a man test (DAMT), was administered to 658 grade two, three and four students who had registered in Imam Reza primary schools in Mashhad, Iran. The DAWT and DAMT were marked by two raters and averaged to have a more comprehensive measure of the students’ conceptualization of human figure called draw a person test (DAPT). The mean score on the DAPT was utilized to assign the participants to field-dependent and field-independent groups. The participants’ scores on the oral and written examinations held in the middle and end of school year were also obtained from their schools and averaged to get a total test score as an indicator of EFL achievement. The correlational analysis of the data established a significant relationship between cognitive styles and oral and total EFL achievement. Neither the field-dependent nor field-independent genus of cognitive styles related to the achievement. The independent samples ttest, however, showed that the field-independent primary school students’ EFL achievement was significantly higher than their FD counterparts. The results are discussed and suggestions are made for future research.

This study describes teachers’ perception regarding behaviourism values in teaching English for young learners in Bali Kiddy Primary School. This study involved 3 English teachers of Bali Kiddy Primary School. The objectives of this study were (1) to find out the perceptions of the English teachers in Bali Kiddy Primary School on behaviourism values in teaching English for young learners, (2) to find out how do the English teachers implement behaviorism values approach in teaching English as a foreign language in Bali Kiddy Primary School, and (3) to find out teachers’ perceptions about behaviourism values related to their strategies in teaching English for young learners in the classroom. The data was collected through observation sheets, questionnaires, and interviews. The research design was mix method. The data were analysed through descriptive qualitative which supported by quantitative data.  The results indicated that the stated beliefs about behaviourism values in teaching English for young learner reflect their implementation in the classroom. There were some inconsistency between the perception and implementation based on teachers’ consideration on students’ condition
