The reason for writing of the article was the first experience of team work in the publishing project “SlovOpys” (the author of the project – Ruslana Kostur). The project objective is to develop a series of book editions for the children of preschool and primary school age in order to promote the Ukrainian language ordered by the publishing center “ACCA”. It was decided to develop a series of books with stickers, on which the rarely used words in the Ukrainian language are written and illustrated. The series was called “Decorate your life with the Ukrainian language”. The students-publishers and the students-advertisers were involved into development of this project.

Summary This paper aims to demonstrate that using a plurilingual and ecological approach to English language teaching can achieve better results in primary school independently of the mother tongue of the student. This article is based on the initial results of our international research carried out in three very different countries (Norway, China and Spain). While the author´s research project involves 328 participants, we will present the results of the first phase of the experiment, including 133 students. In this paper, we propose a plurilingual communicative approach to English teaching as a foreign language, making a distinction between languages for communication and languages for identification. This research examines the current teaching policies in the participating countries, and analyses cross-cultural and cross-linguistic perspectives in English language teaching while promoting the positive use of the mother tongue as a connecting tool in the students’ communication system. The subjects of this study were divided in control and experimental groups, in which they received traditional and plurilingual approach respectively. After the classes they completed a test and were then supplied with a Likert scale questionnaire focused on understanding their attitude and motivation towards mother tongue and English language learning. Based on observation and results obtained, we can conclude that a plurilingual approach that uses L1 as a tool in English teaching improves English learning, as well as develops an ecological understanding of languages.

Experimentation with e-cigarettes has grown rapidly among UK adolescents. To date, this topic has been primarily researched in secondary schools, with less understanding of development of attitudes and behaviours at an earlier age. This research reports qualitative data from interviews with pupils, parents, and teachers at 4 case study schools in Wales (N = 42). It draws on Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory to consider how the intersection of systems surrounding primary school-age children and their interaction with these systems, shape knowledge, and attitudes towards e-cigarettes and tobacco. Findings indicate that consistent messaging on smoking from school and family was reflected in strong disapproval among pupils and clear understanding of harms. This was less evident for e-cigarettes, where messages were mixed and inconsistent between home and school, with concerns over what to tell children about e-cigarettes in light of mixed messages and absence of official guidance. Implications of findings for policy and teaching are discussed.

This article considers some of the ways in which computers and appropriate software can be used to encourage children to use language purposefully. It discusses the range of computer software that is available for Primary School children and suggests ways of incorporating such software into the various subject areas. While highlighting the valuable contribution that computers can make to the teaching and learning process in schools, the article stresses the need for the planned integration of computers and computer software into an overall curriculum strategy which has an evident cohesiveness and a continuity. The surest means by which children are enabled to master their mother tongue is by exploiting the process of discovery through language in all its uses. A Language for Life

The article focuses on an important problem stipulated by cardinal changes in the theory and practice of training and education of children of primary school age. Its topicality is caused by the implementation of the New Ukrainian School Concept, the essence of which is to change the teaching methods of primary school children bringing them most closely to play activities that is a characteristic feature of mental and physical development of children in primary school age. Purpose. To clarify the importance of interdisciplinary connections and interdisciplinary integration in Ukrainian language lessons in the primary grades of the New Ukrainian School, to outline some aspects of the realization of the essence and importance of this phenomenon. Methods. Analysis of scientific literature on the problem, generalization and systematization of the collected material, modeling of integrated processes. Result. The article focuses on various aspects of the implementation of integrated interdisciplinary links in Ukrainian language lessons, including elements of classes in language and reading, language and mathematics, language and science, language and computer science, lan-guage and art. Due to the fact that the new curriculum for primary school students offers the introduction of such subjects as “I explore the world”, “I am in the world”, “Environment”, “Health Technologies”, “Natural Science” having an integrated nature in themselves, it allows the primary school teacher to expand the interdisciplinary links of disciplines studied by younger students. Originality. The article emphasizes that modern scholars propose to distinguish between the con- cepts of the “integrated learning” and “interdisciplinary links”, which until recently, were interpreted in the literature as similar phenomena. Based on certain theoretical principles of the integrated and interdisciplinary links, different options for their use in native language lessons in primary school have been proposed.Conclusion. Thus, the teacher should analyze the educational material from the proposed subjects, choose topics that are similar in content and purpose, syn-thesize this material and organically combine educational material.

The concept of gamification has spread widely in recent years supported by the development of technology, especially due to the plethora of computers and video games and game apps for other devices. Gamification is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts that support play to engage users in solving problems or created for teaching and learning purposes. Gamification does not mean creating games but making education more engaging and fun with play for learners, without undermining its credibility. In modern education, lessons delivery is associated with the lack of engagement and motivation of learners to participate actively in the learning process. Teachers are increasingly faced with the problem of how to integrate technology and to impart good language learning habits at the level of primary school in Malaysia. Hence, the aim of this study is to propose a conceptual model of analogue gamification to enhance primary school learners’ motivation and attitude.

Moroccan students do not have many opportunities to use English outside the classroom setting. The adoption of task-based language learning (TBLL) is deemed to be an appropriate language instructional method for the Moroccan EFL context. Hence, teachers are explicitly urged in the official Moroccan English language guidelines documents to adopt tasks in their teaching practices. However, no known empirical research has been conducted to investigate teachers’ perceptions and use of TBLL. To fill this gap, this study attempted to investigate high school EFL instructors’ familiarity with TBLL and their views on the use of tasks in their classrooms. An online survey provided quantitative data from 90 participants. Results showed that although Moroccan EFL teachers have a good understanding of the key concepts of this approach, their use of tasks is limited. Lack of task-based materials, large class sizes, and students’ use of their mother tongue to complete the task are identified as the main obstacles facing a high level of use of tasks in teachers’ classroom practices. Several implications for the successful integration of TBLL in the Moroccan EFL context are suggested at the end of the article.
