Aim/Purpose: The need to explore leaders’ role as a mediating factor between knowledge sharing and firms’ competitiveness was the focus of this paper. Further, gaps related to knowledge sharing influence on firms’ competitiveness from an emerging economy perspective was a major driver of this study. Background: The relevance of knowledge sharing is today crucial for firms that seek to harness internal resource innovation towards ensuring increased competitiveness. The link between the actions of leaders and outcomes from sharing knowledge towards increased competitiveness would further advance theory on knowledge sharing and provide managerial implication that is instrumental for an improved organisational outcome. Methodology: The study sample was 282 participants and Partial least square structural equation model was used for the analysis of the data obtained through a questionnaire survey with the aid of SmartPLSv3.9. Contribution: The study contributes to knowledge management literature through advancing leadership as a mediating factor that accounts for the link between knowledge sharing and firms’ competitiveness, most especially from an emerging economy perspective. Findings: Knowledge sharing was found to have a positive effect on firms’ competitiveness. The study found that leadership behaviour mediates the relationship between knowledge sharing and a firm’s competitiveness. Recommendations for Practitioners: The study recommends that, when supported with the right attitude from leaders in the organisation, knowledge sharing will be beneficial towards the firm gaining competitiveness most especially. Future Research: Future studies should be carried out in other sectors aside from the manufacturing sector using the same measures used to measure knowledge sharing. Also, a comparative analysis of knowledge sharing and firms’ competitiveness using leaders’ behaviour as a mediator should be researched in other developing economies.

This research examines the association of job attitudes (i.e. job involvement, job satisfaction, and commitment) with knowledge sharing behaviour of bank personnel through behavioural antecedents (i.e. motivation, attitude, and intentions to share knowledge). The hypothesised relationships among job attitudes (excluding job involvement), behaviour antecedents, and knowledge sharing behaviour are significant and consistent. Notably, the association of job satisfaction with the motivation to share knowledge is insignificant. The survey results are based on data from a stratified multistage cluster sample of 316 public and private sector bank professionals from Pakistan, analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS)-Structure Equation Modelling (SEM). The research provides a framework for theoretical and practical implications in knowledge-intensive organisations to foster knowledge sharing that increases individual as well as organisational productivity. The study paves the way for future research by including knowledge-oriented leadership, culture, trust, knowledge governance, and citizenship behaviour in the current framework for analysis in diverse geographical and demographical contexts.

Undoubtedly, entrepreneurial knowledge is a prerequisite for the survival of every business organization. To this, the contribution of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the socio-economic development in most developing economies cannot be underestimated. Both developed and developing countries are living testimonies of their contributions to their nation’s growth and development. However, extant literature shows that as competition and innovation intensify in the global business market, many SMEs in developing countries are constrained by external forces that hinder the sustainability of these businesses.   Hence, this paper aims to find out the mitigating factors warranting SMEs’ sustainability from the viewpoint of entrepreneurs and business owners, particularly in the manufacturing sector of Ghana, a Sub-Saharan Africa region. To achieved this objective, the study deployed a simple random sampling technique with 370 valid responses through a structured questionnaire for the analysis. Relying on PLS-SEM (partial least square and structural modeling) with the aid of ADANCO 2.2.1 software version revealed that factors such as financial challenges, technology; market penetration & acceptability; and research & development are barriers facing SMEs sustainability in the Ghanaian manufacturing sector. This study would be beneficial to entrepreneurs and business owners of SMEs in most developing countries and provide deeper insight into the SME literature at large. This study would further strengthen SME entrepreneurs and business owners to fully devise strategies that can help them to override such migrating challenges and equipped them to effectively stay competitive in the long term for the firm’s growth and survival. The limitation and future research directions are equally presented in the paper.

Micro enterprises formed the majority of business establishments in Malaysia and play an important role in the business ecosystem. There are numerous studies of intellectual capital on large organizations and small and medium enterprises, however no study has been carried out on micro enterprises. The findings of the partial-least square analysis of one hundred and six micro enterprises found that intellectual capital has a significant relationship to organizational performance. In addition, the relationship between intellectual capital and organizational performance was significantly influenced by tacit knowledge sharing. In particular, tacit knowledge sharing proves to be extremely relevant when it comes to reinforcing the intellectual capital on the performance of micro enterprises in Malaysia. Limitations and implications for future studies are discussed.

PurposeThe purpose of this study intends to examine the influence of green human resource management (GHRM) on green service behaviors through the mediating effect of green knowledge sharing based on bank employees' perceptions.Design/methodology/approachThe study analyzes 365 frontline employees' perceptions from the banking industry in Bangladesh using partial least square.FindingsThe findings show a significant positive direct influence of GHRM on green in-role, extra-role service behavior and green knowledge sharing. Green knowledge sharing is also found to have a significant mediating effect between GHRM and green service behaviors.Research limitations/implicationsThis study considers perceptions of employees of the private commercial banking organizations, and thereby, its findings cannot be generalized for all other service organizations in the context of Bangladesh.Practical implicationsThe study demonstrates that GHRM can influence employees' green service behaviors via green knowledge sharing.Originality/valueGreen banking is an emerging trend that deserves more attention. There is growing recognition that green banking is not an “automatic” process but requires that banking management promote green service behavior among their employees. This study extends the research on GHRM by focusing on how it impacts green service behavior through the mediating role of green knowledge sharing. The paper provides practical insights for organizations looking to improve green service behaviors among employees.

Aim/Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between knowledge sharing process and innovation success with specific emphasis on tacit knowledge. Based on the literature review, we hypothesised that knowledge donating and collecting have a positive relationship with innovation success. Methodology: The hypotheses were empirically tested using the partial least square path modelling with data collected from twelve state-owned public organisations operating in Southern Nigeria. Contribution: The research made distinct empirical contributions to the burgeoning literature on knowledge sharing and innovation from the public sector and developing country context. Findings: Knowledge donating and collecting contribute to innovation success positively and significantly. Knowledge donating effect on innovation success was found to be more significantly positive than the effect of knowledge collecting on innovation success. Recommendations for Practitioners: Public organisations should promote a supportive culture to spur innovation through the frequent share of experiences, information and skills among the various knowledge actors. Public managers should convey the importance of knowledge sharing and its value to knowledge users in clear terms and attend to creating conditions or contexts that encourage people to share knowledge freely and willingly with others. It is apt to improve organisational commitment and support for knowledge sharing activities such as mentorship programs, workshops, conferences, seminars and other related training and development programs in order to provide opportunities for employees to develop innovation competencies from the transfer of tacit knowledge developed over time from experience. To optimise innovation outcomes from knowledge sharing practices, knowledge sharing should be in tandem with the industry or global best practices. Future Research: Future studies should add interviews to provide depth in terms of insights and substance to the questionnaire, and may extend to public organisation with different ownership structure.

Micro Enterprises form the majority of business establishments in Malaysia. They represent more than 90 percent of such establishments in the country. Interestingly, most studies have shown that entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is an important element of entrepreneurship for micro enterprises. Hence, in the era of robustness of technology and explosion of knowledge, the role of knowledge sharing and innovation should be incorporated in investigating the performance of micro enterprises. This paper aims to explore the business performance of selected micro enterprises in Malaysia. One hundred and six micro enterprises owners took part in the survey. Partial Least Square was used to analyze the data. The results show that while entrepreneurial orientation on its own has no direct impact on business performance, the practice of knowledge sharing and innovation practices does. Entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge sharing have shown a strong impact on innovation where innovation reflects the impact of all variables on business performance. The study has also shown that knowledge sharing and innovation are being practiced actively in micro enterprises, thus providing a good platform for future research.  Keywords: Entrepreneurial orientation, knowledge sharing, innovation, business performance, micro enterprises

This study explored how social media is used as a destination marketing tool for the sustainability of heritage festival quality in Nigeria, drawing on the theory of planned behavior. The festival, which is an exploration of heritage, was specifically premeditated to celebrate the slave trade period by highlighting the unique connection of African American history to the diaspora ancestors who were literally taken away as slaves through “the point of no return” in Badagry, Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was utilized as a research instrument to gather information aimed at examining the influence of social media (SM), website quality (WQ), and online word of mouth (eWOM) on tourists’ festival satisfaction (FS) and festival revisiting intention (FRI). Data were gathered from samples of 473 diaspora tourists at Badagry Diaspora Festival in Nigeria and analyzed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with the aid of WarpPLS (7.0). The findings of the study revealed that social media (SM), festival quality (FQ), website quality (WQ), and electronic word of mouth (eWOM) had a positive and significant relationship with tourists’ festival satisfaction. Additionally, this study found that festival quality had a positive impact on the intention of the tourists to revisit the Badagry Diaspora Festival because tourist attitude is influenced by the socio-cultural background of tourists. Moreover, the result revealed the partial mediating effect of festival satisfaction in the relationship between (a) SM, (b) FQ, (c) WQ, and (d) eWOM and tourists’ festival satisfaction. Similarly, cultural motivation was also found to mediate the relationship between tourists’ festival satisfaction and festival revisiting intension (RI). Based on the findings, the implications of the festival sustainability and future research directions were discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of collaborative cultures and knowledge sharing on organization learning. Design/methodology/approach This research used a sample of 288 non-profit state-owned organization employees, which was taken using the simple random sampling technique. The hypotheses were tested using the partial least square approach. Findings This research provides insights that organizational learning is influenced significantly by knowledge sharing and collaborative cultures existing within the organization. The successfully built theoretical implication provides evidence that knowledge sharing and collaborative cultures within an organization can provide support for the real organizational learning to take place. Knowledge sharing and collaborative cultures prove to be among the determinants for the occurrence of organizational learning. The right culture can promote good organizational learning. Research limitations/implications The right culture can promote organizational learning. This research investigates the effects of collaborative cultures and knowledge sharing on organizational learning in a non-profit state-owned organization. Future research can further expand the scope of various types of organizations, both for-profit and non-profit ones. Practical implications This research reveals the effects of collaborative cultures and knowledge sharing on organizational learning. Originality/value This research provides insights into the factors supporting organizational learning.


Organizational performance (OP) is important for the company, employment and the country. Previous studies deployed secondary data approach in developed countries while few studies examined the OP using primary data approach. Using the theories of resource based view, knowledge based view, this study aims to examine the effect of organizational culture (OC), organizational structure (OS), and technology infrastructure (TI) on OP of companies in Saudi Arabia. In addition, the study aims to examine the mediating role of knowledge sharing (KS). Using a purposive sampling, the data was collected from managerial level employees in Saudi. The results of Smart Partial Least Square showed that the OC is the most important variable followed by OS and TI. KS mediated the effect of OC and TI on OP. Companies in Saudi Arabia should establish a KS culture and enhance their TI to achieve competitive advantage and better OP.

This study aims to explore the influence of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Politico-Economic Conditions (PEC) on Tourist Behavioral Intension (TBI) in Hunza, Pakistan. The study further investigates the mediating role of Tourist Satisfaction (TS) on the given variables. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique has been applied to conceptualize the research frame and to test the proposed hypotheses. Primary data was collected by using convenient sampling technique for analysis from 220 tourists who visited tourism nucleus sites of Hunza. The finding of the study reveals that Natural resources and Environment, Politico-and Economic Conditions have a significant positive impact on Tourist’s Behavioral Intensions. Moreover, Tourist’s Satisfaction partially mediates the positive relationships among Natural Resources and Environment, Political & Economic Conditions and Tourist’s Behavioral Intensions. The findings of the study extend the understanding that presence of natural resources along with healthy environment and stable political & economic conditions of a destination are the key determinants for sustainable tourism development.
