The objective of this paper is to identify the relationship between the dimensions of performance motivation and value preferences of project managers in large companies. To examine the relationship, it was first necessary to find out what the value system of project managers is and what their motivational profile is. The research took the form of a questionnaire survey in large Czech companies, which belong to CZ-NACE C. Standardized questionnaires were used for data collection. The PVQ questionnaire was used to determine the value system and the LMI questionnaire was used to determine the motivational profile. Data were evaluated by using descriptive statistics and relationships were evaluated by using Person's correlation coefficient. Student's t-test was used to verify statistical significance. It was found that the analyzed values in the set of respondents are almost the same, all analyzed values are perceived by the respondents as significant. The most represented value among the respondents is benevolence and the least represented is tradition. We identified identical findings in the case of analysis of performance motivation. Of the four dimensions of motivation examined, the project managers addressed confidence in success to be the most important. A statistically significant relationship was found between commitment and power and success, between flexibility and stimulation, universalism and benevolence, between self-control and power, success, conformity and safety, and between confidence in success and power, success and stimulation. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01282 Full Text: PDF

AbstractThe statistical relationships of total COVID-19 Cases and Deaths per million populations in 45 countries, where 85.8% of the world’s population lives with 10 demographic, economic and social indicators were studied. Data for 28 May 2020 were used in the main calculations. The relationship of Deaths per million population and total Cases per million population is very close and reaches correlation coefficient R = 0.926. It is interesting that the close correlations were found of Cases and Deaths per 1 million with a purely economic index like GDP PPP per capita, where R = 0.687 and R = 0.660, respectively. Even more close correlations were found of Cases and Deaths per 1 million with a composite index HDI, where the correlation coefficients reach 0.724 and 0.680, respectively. The main reason for these paradoxical results is the underestimation of pandemic restrictions in the form of masks, social distance and disinfection in most of these countries. Other indicators (excluding Gini index and Population Density) also show statistically significant correlations with Cases and Deaths per 1 million with correlation coefficients from 0.432 to 0.634. The statistical significance of the found correlations determined using Student’s t-test was p <0.0001. Surprisingly, there was no statistically significant correlation between Cases and Deaths with Population Density. To check whether there is a change in the correlations with the development of the pandemic, a statistical analysis was made for four different dates – 9 April, 28 May, 7 August and 30 November 2020. It was found that the correlation coefficients of COVID-19 cases and Deaths with the rest indicators decrease during the pandemic.

This study advances a multidimensional risky lifestyles scale (i.e., casual sex, drug involvement, active nightlife, peer deviance affiliation, and conflict escalation) and tests whether behaviors that bring people into contact with motivated offenders in the absence of capable guardianship mediates the relationship between low self-control and violent victimization. Using cross-sectional survey data from a university-based sample (N = 554), a second-order confirmatory factor model for risky lifestyles is estimated. Multivariate regression equations are used to test the effect of low self-control on violent victimization, and also to determine whether risky lifestyles acts as a mediator variable. The results show that the risky lifestyles scale fully mediates the relationship between low self-control and violent victimization. This observation holds across different measurement approaches and modeling strategies. Additional tests reveal that, when the scale is disaggregated, the effects of the individual dimensions of risky lifestyle vary in terms of effect size and level of statistical significance. While the multidimensional scale has sound psychometric properties, possesses robust directional accuracy, and reflects a broad array of risky behaviors, further refinement is necessary.

The goal of this article is to identify and understand the relationship between the critical success factors (CSFs) of project manufacturing environments and project performance. This article explores those relationships through the logistic regression method, using a sample of 182 respondents and quantifying the influence of CSFs on success achievement in four dimensions (efficiency, impact on consumers, impact on the team, and preparation for the future). The results show that not all CSFs are significant in explaining project success. Thus, project managers must evaluate the influence of each one and consider it in their decisions.

The article deals with the issues of training a new generation of professional staff with a set of hard and soft skills on the example of foreign language training of lawyers. Special attention is paid to the development of both communicative and universal competencies such as the ability to defend personal position, teamwork, cooperation and interpersonal communication, presentation skills, stress resistance. The aim of this article is to describe the technology of professionally integrated foreign language teaching by preparing law students to participate in international competitions in English, as well as to analyze advantages of this technology. The model of technology of professionally integrated foreign language teaching is described. The method of modeling professional situations by mock trials is presented in detail. The authors describe the components and stages of implementation of the described technology, and justify its effectiveness. The results of a two-year study of the pedagogical potential of the technology in training students of Petrozavodsk State University for international competitions, such as the Amicus Curiae competition for trial lawyers, are given. To prove the statistical significance of the obtained data, Student’s t-test was applied. In the experimental group, after the completion of training, the average arithmetic indicator of the level of competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English is 0.84 – 1.33 points, which is a statistically significant result (texpl5>tcrit2.093, with the significance level α = 0.05). The technology proved to be effective for training students’ presentation skills, teamwork, collaboration and interpersonal communication skills, as well as their sense of confidence and self-control. The authors conclude that the inclusion of competitive elements in the learning environment encourages both the development of universal and professional competencies, and the improvement of foreign language proficiency of non-linguistic students.

Aim: to analyze an adherence to treatment, factors affecting it, and the quality of life of patients with cardiovascular diseases at the outpatient stage of medical care.Material and methods. The population of the study was 225 people. The Moriski-green compliance scale was used to analyze patients’ adherence to treatment, and the EuroQol EQ-5D-5L international questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life of patients. Statistical data processing was performed using the program STATISTICA 10.0.Results. The percentage of committed to treating patients who sought outpatient care was 59%. The main reason for poor adherence was forgetfulness – 25,27 %. It is patient’s opinion, in 73.8% of cases, communication with a doctor plays an important role in improving their compliance. The total index of quality of life (QOL) of patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) was 0.712 ± 0.165. In estimating the relationship between quality of life and adherence to treatment, a positive correlation was found: the more compliant the patient, the higher their quality of life, and vice versa (r=0.2, p=0.013). The relationship between high adherence to treatment and quality of life was confirmed in the group of men (p=0.01), while the statistical significance of differences was not achieved in women (p=0.2). In examining the aspect of a disease of chronic heart failure (CHF), the worsening of NYHA functional class (from I to II) was accompanied by a sharp decrease in self-esteem of health for both sexes (p=0.01).Conclusion. Almost every second patient is against of the rules of the medication regimen. Better adherence to treatment can be facilitated by more careful attention from the attending physician with a detailed explanation of the causes and the aspect of the disease, treatment methods, as well as ways to self-control the symptoms of the disease. The degree of treatment adherence is correlated with the level of quality of life on the EQ-5D-5L scale, mainly in the male population.

We analysed the relationship between central and peripheral retinal lesions and axial length (AL), patient's age and sex with myopia greater than 6 diopters. A total of 212 eyes of 109 patients with high myopia underwent detailed funduscopy and A-scan ultrasonography. AL was measured, and central and peripheral retinal lesions were noted. Results were analysed using Student's t-test. Sixty-one patients (118 eyes) were female and 48 (94 eyes) male. Mean age was 31.00 ± 13.67 years, and mean AL was 28.31 ± 2.02 mm. Chorioretinal atrophy, Fuchs’ spot, posterior staphyloma and posterior vitreous detachment increased significantly with AL and age. Fuchs’ spot was more common in females. White-without-pressure (WWP) was inversely correlated with AL and age, and was more common in males. The high frequency of WWP in younger patients and moderate AL suggests that these lesions result from vitreoretinal tractions. Lattice degeneration was also a frequent finding in high myopia, and tended to increase with AL and age, though without reaching statistical significance.

Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are characterized by a deviant pattern of brain oscillations during resting state, particularly elevated theta power and increased theta/alpha and theta/beta ratios that are related to cognitive functioning. Physical fitness has been found beneficial to cognitive performance in a wide age population. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness and resting-state electroencephalographic (EEG) oscillations in children with ADHD. EEG was recorded during eyes-open resting for 28 children (23 boys and 5 girls, 8.66 ± 1.10 years) with ADHD, and a battery of physical fitness assessments including flexibility, muscular endurance, power, and agility tests were administered. The results indicated that ADHD children with higher power fitness exhibited a smaller theta/alpha ratio than those with lower power fitness. These findings suggest that power fitness may be associated with improved attentional self-control in children with ADHD.

The question of project manager competencies and especially in social projects is a key issue for social organizations seeking to progress and achieve success. If the manager has an important role to play with regard to the social organization, he’s however dependent on his behavioral, professional and personal capacities. The purpose of this paper is to show, on the basis of a quantitative study carried out among 120 managers of social projects in cooperatives located in the city of Agadir (Morocco), that the success of projects is conditioned by the leadership skills. Consequently, factors related to behavioral skills such as Solidarity; Involvement; Patience; Creativity; Empathy; Motivation; Trust; Commitment; Self-esteem; Transparency; Self-control; Discipline and other factors related to professional characteristics and personal characteristics of project managers prove a positive and significant relationship with the criterion of success studied.
