Fishing boats are used in capturing or collecting aquatic resources. As a means of production, the boat should meet various conditions of seaworthiness i.e. good stability, good seakeeping ability and minimum resistance. Those criteria can be identified when the boat size and the hull form are designed. This study investigates the effect of the boat dimension and the hull form on the stability, resistance and seekeeping ability. Various sizes and hull shapes of a 20 GT fishing boat were simulated, and their performances were compared to the IMO standard. The results suggest that the minimum breadth (B) - draft (d) ratio which meets the stability criterion is 2.50, while the ratio of the center of gravity distance from the keel (KG) and the depth (D) of the boat is 0.65. Furthermore, for the boat with a higher B and D ratio, its resistance is relatively smaller. In terms of seakeeping ability, particularly roll and pitch motions, U type bottom performed better than the Akatsuki bottom. With Normalized Energy Stability Margin(Sne ) as stability criterion, this paper studies the tumbles of omni-directional static walking of a quadruped robot around the line connecting two adjacent supporting legs on rough terrain, proposes the method to improve the stability of quadruped robot by increasing the (Sne ) value, which is realized by lowering the height of center of gravity(COG), and finally substantiates the feasibility of the method through a simulation experiment.

This study was purposed to compare the stability of four types of pole and liner casco (round bottom, round flat bottom, round sharp bottom and u-v bottom),. The stability value was analyzed by calculating the stability on the curve with the heeling angle of 0-90°. The stability results of each casco type were then compared with the criteria of minimum standard value derived from IMO (International Maritime Organization). Results showed that the four casco types had greater stability values than IMO standard values. This study found that the stability value of the round –sharp bottom casco was better than the others.

Keywords: Stability of fishing boat, Pole and liner, casco

Fishing vessels used to catch resources from the sea has to pass some of the regulations from International Maritime Organization for sea-worthiness of the vessel especially about stability, resistance to acquire the highest velocity, and the vessel’s motion. This research discusses the effect of the vessel’s dimension and the hull shape by using the stability standard from IMO.The result shows that the ratio of the B/T which meets the stability criteria is 2.50 with the ratio of KG/H of the vessel is 0.65, with the assumption that the KG and H of the vessel are more than 0.70. Whereas if the resistance ratio B/T is big, the resistance for the vessel will be relatively smaller. In terms of the vessel motion, a vessel with a V-type hull will better than a U-type hull in seakeeping.

Solubilization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is a fundamental technique for the use of CNTs and their conjugates as nanodevices and nanobiodevices. In this work, we demonstrate the preparation of CNT suspensions with “green” detergents made from coconuts and bamboo as fundamental research in CNT nanotechnology. Single-walled CNTs (SWNTs) with a few carboxylic acid groups (3–5%) and pristine multi-walled CNTs (MWNTs) were mixed in each detergent solution and sonicated with a bath-type sonicator. The prepared suspensions were characterized using absorbance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Among the eight combinations of CNTs and detergents (two types of CNTs and four detergents, including sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the standard), SWNTs/MWNTs were well dispersed in all combinations except the combination of the MWNTs and the bamboo detergent. The stability of the suspensions prepared with coconut detergents was better than that prepared with SDS. Because the efficiency of the bamboo detergents against the MWNTs differed significantly from that against the SWNTs, the natural detergent might be useful for separating CNTs. Our results revealed that the use of the “green” detergents had the advantage of dispersing CNTs as well as SDS.

Intrinsic thermal stability denotes a situation where a superconductor can carry the operating current without resistance at all times after the occurrence of a localized release of thermal energy. This novel stability criterion is different from the cryogenic stability criteria for magnets and has particular relevance to thin-film superconductors. Crystals of ceramic high-temperature superconductors are likely to exhibit anisotropic thermal conductivity. The resultant anisotropy of highly oriented films of superconductors greatly influences their thermal stability. This work presents an analysis for the maximum operating current density that ensures intrinsic stability. The stability criterion depends on the amount of released energy, the Biot number, the aspect ratio, and the ratio of the thermal conductivities in the plane of the film and normal to it.

AbstractConsideration is given to the flow of a micropolar liquid down an inclined plane. The steady state is analysed and Yih's technique is employed in an investigation of the stability of this flow with respect to long waves. Detailed calculations are given for thin films and it is shown that the micropolar properties of the liquid play an important role in the stability criterion.

A reasonable grasping strategy is a prerequisite for the successful grasping of a target, and it is also a basic condition for the wide application of robots. Presently, mainstream grippers on the market are divided into two-finger grippers and three-finger grippers. According to human grasping experience, the stability of three-finger grippers is much better than that of two-finger grippers. Therefore, this paper’s focus is on the three-finger grasping strategy generation method based on the DeepLab V3+ algorithm. DeepLab V3+ uses the atrous convolution kernel and the atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) architecture based on atrous convolution. The atrous convolution kernel can adjust the field-of-view of the filter layer by changing the convolution rate. In addition, ASPP can effectively capture multi-scale information, based on the parallel connection of multiple convolution rates of atrous convolutional layers, so that the model performs better on multi-scale objects. The article innovatively uses the DeepLab V3+ algorithm to generate the grasp strategy of a target and optimizes the atrous convolution parameter values of ASPP. This study used the Cornell Grasp dataset to train and verify the model. At the same time, a smaller and more complex dataset of 60 was produced according to the actual situation. Upon testing, good experimental results were obtained.
