The 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and subsequent European Debt Crisis had wide-sweeping consequences for global economic and political stability. Yet while these twin crises have prompted soul searching within the economics profession, international political economy (IPE) has been relatively ineffective in accounting for variation in crisis exposure across the developed world. The GFC and European Debt Crisis present the opportunity to link IPE and comparative political economy (CPE) together in the study of international economic and financial turmoil. While the GFC was prompted by the inter-connectedness of global financial markets, its instigators were largely domestic in nature and were reflective of negative externalities that stemmed from unsustainable national policies, especially those related to financial regulation and household debt accumulation. Many in IPE take an “outward looking in” approach to the examination of international economic developments and domestic politics; analysis rests on how the former impacts the latter. The GFC and European Debt Crisis, however, demonstrate the importance of a (CPE-based) “inward looking out” approach, analyzing how unique policy and political features (and failures) of individual nation states can unleash economic and financial instability at the global level amidst deepened economic and financial integration. IPE not only needs to grant greater attention to variation in domestic politics and policies in a time of closely integrated financial markets, but also should acknowledge the impact of a wider array of actors beyond banks and financial institutions (specifically more domestically rooted actors like households) on cross-national variation in the consumption of foreign credit.

Macroeconomic conditions can have a substantial effect on the economic circumstances of individuals and therefore on the golf demand in a country. Using panel data on golf demand (number of golf players) and supply (number of courses), and indicators of the economic situation for 15 European countries, encompassing years 2000 through 2014, we estimate a dynamic panel data model in order to evaluate the influence of the economic conditions and golf supply on the number of registered golfers. Economic situation is assessed through two variables: the gross domestic product (GDP) and the main stock market index of each country. We also test the hypothesis of uneven effects of the GDP before and after the beginning of the economic recession. The most crucial finding is that from the start of the financial crisis, the level of GDP imposes statistically significant effect on golf demand, making those countries with higher GDP per capita the ones whose golf demand is harmed the least by the financial crisis. The number of golf players responds to the state of the economy after the start of the economic downturns, while the high persistence of the golf demand makes it rather difficult to find significant differences in the changes in GDP before the recession. We also find that the number of golf courses is not seen to bear a close relationship with the number of players unless we control for economic factors and business cycle. Within the economic factors, the level of development of a country, as measured by GDP per capita, outweighs stock market role in determining the demand for golf.

This article is dedicated to exploring legal mechanisms that can be used against debtors to satisfy creditors' rights and interests. The purpose of the study is to determine the list of measures aimed at exercising effective influence on the debtor, provided by law, and to formulate criteria for their application. The author draws attention to changes in the current legislation in this area in recent years and stresses the urgency of maintaining discipline in obligations, given the difficult economic situation in the country and the global financial crisis. One of such positive changes should be the establishment of the keeping of the Unified State Register of Debtors in Ukraine, whose functioning makes it possible to identify the debtor's property and impose restrictions on it, prohibit alienation and so on. And all this provides an opportunity to meet the property needs of creditors. For the first time, the study reveals the criteria that should be used to determine the areas of influ-ence for entities with debt to the lender: characteristics of the individual (individual / legal entity, etc.); the area of law that sets the obligation for the debtor (civil / family / commercial law, etc.); the causes of the debt (insolvency / liability of the debtor, etc.); the personal position of the debtor and / or creditor in the situation that has arisen (initiation of debt resolution / restructuring, etc.) The article also analyzes the specifics of choosing measures to influence debtors who have certain statuses. Such a feature exists in particular for an individual, a legal entity, a state-owned enterprise, an alimony debtor, an insolvent debtor, and others.

Remuneration of managers in financial institutions during the financial crisis 2007–2009 was subject to strong criticism. High wages often did not depend on the economic situation of the banks. This paper analyses the level of wages in Polish banks in years 2004–2013. Particular attention was paid to the moment of the merger/acquisition of a financial institution. Annual total remuneration of management of the financial institutions were analysed, as well as annual total remuneration of the presidents of the banks. It was revealed that the wages have risen significantly, particularly in banks PEKAO S.A. and BPH S.A. after taking over part of BPH S.A. by a strategic Italian investor of the bank PEKAO S.A.
