This study aims to describe the thinking process of students in solving mathematical problems of triangular and quadrilateral material in terms of cognitive style. The thinking process in this study is the steps taken by students involving mental activities in solving problems related to problem solving. The process of thinking in this study there are three kinds, namely conceptual thinking, semi-conceptual thinking and computational thinking. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects in this study were grade VII students consisting of four students with details of each two students from the Field Independent (FI) cognitive style and two students from the Field Dependent cognitive style (FD). Data collection techniques used in this study were mathematical tests and interviews. Data on the results of mathematical tests and interviews were analyzed based on indicators suitable with the conceptual thinking process, semi-conceptual thinking process and computational thinking process. From the results of data analysis, it was found that the students' thinking processes in solving mathematical story problems in the Field Independent group is the conceptual and semi-conceptual thinking processes. And students' thinking processes in solving mathematical story problems in the Field Dependent group tend to be semi-conceptual and computational thinking processes.

Abstract:This study aims to find out how the thinking process of female and male students in solving problems analyzed using thinking type indicators according to Zuhri and Wing that divided into three, namely conceptual, semi-conceptual, and computational thinking processes. This research method used a qualitative descriptive study. The instrument in the study consisted of test questions given to 34 VII grade students in one of Junior High School in Cimahi. Based on the results, can be known about the conceptual thinking process only done by female students with a percentage of 11.8%, the semi-conceptual thinking process of female students was 64.7% and 47% of male students, as for computational thinking process of female students was 23.5% and 53%  male students. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that female students tend to think semi-conceptually while male students tend to think computationally.Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses berpikir siswa perempuan dan laki-laki dalam menyelesaikan masalah yang dianalisis menggunakan indikator jenis berpikir menurut Zuhri dan Wing yang dibagi menjadi tiga yaitu proses berpikir konseptual, semi-konseptual, dan komputasi. Metode penelitian ini berupa penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen dalam penelitian berupa soal tes yang diberikan kepada 34 siswa kelas VII SMP di Kota Cimahi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat diketahui bahwa proses berpikir konseptual hanya dilakukan siswa perempuan dengan persentase 11,8%, proses berpikir semi-konseptual siswa perempuan adalah 64,7% dan siswa laki-laki 47%, sedangkan untuk proses berpikir komputasi siswa perempuan adalah 23,5% dan siswa laki-laki 53%. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa perempuan cenderung berpikir secara semikonseptual, sedangkan siswa laki-laki cenderung berpikir secara komputasional.

The students’ thinking process when solving HOTS questions in mathematics National Examinations very necessary to know. There are three types of students’ thinking processes used in this study, namely conceptual thinking, semi-conceptual thinking, and computational thinking. This study aims to describe in detail about field-independent and field-dependent students' thinking process when solving HOTS questions in the 2018 Mathematics National Examination. The research subjects were six 8th grade students, consisting of 3 students on each cognitive style. Data collection techniques are written test and interview. The written test and interview results data are analyzed according to indicators of the thinking process. The results of this study indicate that the field independent students' thinking process is conceptual while dependent students are computational.

The process of thinking is the steps that a person uses in receiving, processing, concluding, and reusing the information obtained to resolve the issues related to solve the problem of the memory. While cognitive style is an activity that became a characteristic of learners in the functioning of mental activities in the field of cognitive (thinking, remembering, processing information, organizing, solving problems, and making decisions) which is consistent. Cognitive style has a major role when utilized in an effort to improve the effectiveness of the learning process. Cognitive styles are divided into two, namely, Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent (FD). This research is descriptive qualitative which describes the process of thinking of students in solving mathematical problems on material combinations and permutations. The data collection method in this study using GEFT tests to determine cognitive styles of students, test description of material combinations and permutations to obtain the thinking process of students, and interviews. Based on cognitive style, students are grouped into 2 groups: FI and FD, and then subsequently selected two students from two groups of students from the FI and FD to give test of thinking ability and then interviews. Data analysis technique used Miles and Huberman, data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing / verification. Based on the analysis we concluded that students who have the cognitive styles FI tend to have a conceptual thought process. Likewise, students who have the cognitive style FD, these students are also likely to have a conceptual thought process. The process of conceptual thinking is the thought process which solves problems by using the concept that has been owned by the results of studies.

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> The research objectives were to determine and to describe creative thinking characteristic of 7<sup>th</sup> grade students of SMP N 1 Kragan in solving and proposing problem at comparative case seen from the cognitive style. This research belonged to descriptive research by qualitative-explorative approach. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique. The subjects being used in this research were 4, those were 2 students with field dependent cognitive style and 2 students with field independent cognitive style. The subject grouping based on cognitive style was taken by group embedded figures test. There were two instruments that were used to collect the data of this research. The first instrument was solving and proposing problem test instrument. The second was interview guidance. They were validated by using the time triangulation test and the reference fulfillment. The data were analyzed using a Miles and Huberman’s concept, that was data reduction, presentation, and conclusion.. The results of this research show as follows, (1) Creative thinking characteristics of students who had field dependent cognitive style in solving and proposing problem were as follows. The fluency aspect was shown by the students through 4 stages of creative thinking process, both in solving and proposing the problem. The four stages were preparation stage, incubation stage, illumination stage, and verification stage. The flexibility aspect in solving problems appeared when the students gave the other alternative answer, whereas this aspect was not fulfilled in proposing the problems.  The originality aspect was not fulfilled in solving and proposing problems. (2) Creative thinking characteristics of students who had field independent cognitive style in solving and proposing problem were as follows. The fluency aspect was shown by the students through 4 stages of creative thinking process, both in solving and proposing the problem. The four stages were preparation stage, incubation stage, illumination stage, and verification stage. The flexibility aspect in solving problems was shown when the students gave the other alternative answer, while in proposing the problem this aspect was not completed because students were able to make only one question. The originality aspect in solving the problem could be seen when the students gave a new way solution and this  was different from the previous one. <p style="text-align: justify;">Spatial thinking has roles to facilitate learners to remember, understand, reason, and communicate objects and the connections among objects that are represented in space. This research aims to analyze the spatial thinking process of students in constructing new knowledge seen from the field-independent cognitive style learners based on Action-Process-Object-Schema (APOS) theory. APOS theory is used to explore spatial thinking processes which consist of mental structures of action, process, object, and schema. This research is qualitative research with an exploratory method. It provided the students' opportunity to solve problems alternately until the method found the most appropriate subjects for the research objectives. The subjects were 2 students of Mathematics Education in the fourth semester of Universitas Muria Kudus Indonesia. The data collection techniques were started by distributing the validated and reliable spatial thinking questions, the cognitive style question, and the interview. The applied data analysis consisted of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The findings showed (1) spatial thinking process of holistic-external representation typed learners were indicated by the representative thinking element, abstract-illustrative figure expression to communicate and complete the tasks correctly, (2) spatial thinking process of the holistic-internal representation typed learners were indicated by the representative means, having ideas, connecting with the previous knowledge in the forms of symbols and numbers, and finding the final results correctly although incomplete.</p>

This study aims to describe and analyze students' mathematical problem solving abilities based on theory of APOS (Action, Peocess, Object, Schema) in terms of Field Dependent and Field Independent Cognitive Style. It is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The research subjects are 34 students in class XI MIPA 1 SMA Nurul Islam Jember, they are grouped on cognitive style, they are 24 students having field independent cognitive style and 10 students having field dependent cognitive style. The method of data collection use a GEFT (Group Embedded Figure Test), test of problem solving abilities, , and interviews. The results of the data analysis of the problem solving ability test and interviews showed that at the action stage, students with the independent field cognitive style (FI) tended to be able to explain the meaning and information on the questions even though they did not write down what they knew. Students with the field dependent cognitive style (FD) tend to be able to write down the information contained in the questions, but have difficulty explaining the meaning of the questions. At the process stage, FI and FD students are able to model and explain the stages well, but FD still has errors in the resulting mathematical model. At the object stage, FI students tend to work on questions freely, while FD students tend to work on questions in detail or are fixated on completely arranged steps, FD students also have difficulty in explaining back the results of their work. At the schema stage, FI and FD students tend to be able to explain how to use the information contained at the object stage to be used at the schema stage. In general, students with a field independent cognitive style in solving mathematical problems tend to be free or not fixated on complete and detailed steps, and have an analytical nature, so they are able to sort out the important information contained in the questions. Students with a field dependent cognitive style in solving math problems tend to be bound or fixated with steps that are arranged in a complete and detailed manner. The purposes of this research is elaborating the capability of thinking critically FRISCO (Focus, Reason, Inference, Situation, Clarity and Overview) in solving problem based on Polya stage (Research is underdtanding the problems, Creating the plan, Implementing the plan and Reviewing), as reviewd by cognitive style of Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI). It is such a kind of qualitative descriptive and purposive technical sampling research used in this thesis, after some experiments the author found 1 particular subject in each style wether it from Field Dependent (FD) style of Field Independent (FI) style which was taken from Christian 2 junior high school Salatiga. Based on the research, FD subject incapable of implementing Polya stage, while FI subject capable of implementing Polya stage. Based on those four stages: FD is lack of capabillities compliying the criteria of FRISCO, while FI subject meets the requirements of FRISCO.

This study aims to describe the student's intuition characteristics in solving mathematical problems in the cognitive style Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI). Source of data comes from students taken with a purposive technique. Data collection techniques using tests, field notes, and interviews. The data validity inspection technique used triangulate technique. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Based on the results of the study concluded that: students with a Field Dependent (FD) cognitive style used intuition with direct, self-evident, extrampolativeness, intrinsic certainly, coerciveness, and conclusive characteristics. While students with Field Independent (FI) cognitive style use intuition with direct, extrampolativeness, self-evident, intrinsic certainly, coerciveness, and conclusive characteristics. In addition, there are also characteristics that are not found in Field Dependent students, there are globality and one of the anticipatory intuition characteristics (trying hard to solve problems).
