The availability of updated and easy access to geospatial data and information is the main thing in disaster mitigation and sustainable spatial planning. This needs to be supported by the rapid development of technology in the aspect of spreading data and spatial information via the internet. The Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is realized as an implementation of spatial data distribution. SDI is an integrated mechanism to make it easier for spatial data users to access, search, share, and use spatial data and information. Built upon the background statements, the research does intend to develop a web-app which is functioned as a data repository, viewer, and also simple processing (web GIS). To design and develop a disaster geospatial online application web-app that has an integrated function (repository-web GIS) following the directions and input from user feedback becomes the fold of the research. . The importance of putting the user needs in building a web-app to be used by anyone universally is more realistic and practical. The user interface is very essential in bridging communication between users and web mapping systems. User-centred design (UCD) implemented by gathering input and feedback from users. UCD describes the process of ensuring interface success throughout the design and development of the interface. GeoNode has chosen as the platform since it is open-sourced, and commonly used for managing and publishing geospatial data. Based on respondents' assessment of the quality of content/information that important to be developed in a disaster website, it is recognized that providing reliable and up-to-date data and information (69%) and the accuracy of data and information (74%) are the most important things to develop in the InDITA application. the most important features to respondents are the spatial data display feature/map viewer (89%). The design of InDITA was built interactive and user-friendly which designed as an application that accommodates simple viewer, data repository, and web GIS functions. The interactive design emerged as the demand for app users.

This paper examines current development in Web GIS with the implementation of Geospatial Mashup technologies, such as Google Map in the context of map Mashups, and presents a classification of map Mashups and their application in tourism management and promotion. On the Web GIS context, Mashup is the process of merging multiple sources of data, both spatial and non-spatial, into a single integrated spatial display. It is about extracting spatial data from a non-spatial source and combining with other spatial data and finally displaying it on a map. This paper demonstrates that Geospatial Mashup has great potential to facilitate and widen the rapid development of the future web mapping technology in Web GIS in tourism development. It also highlights on the basic architecture and working principles of Map Mashups in context to tourism management. The final section of this research paper emphasizes on some issues and limitations inherent to the current Mashup technologies like privacy protection, copyright issues etc. which need to be worked out before its wider adoption.

Widely used across disciplines such as natural resources, social sciences, public health, humanities, and economics, spatial data is an important component in many studies and has promoted interdisciplinary research development. Though an institutional data repository provides a great solution for data curation, preservation, and sharing, it usually lacks the spatial visualization capability, which limits the use of spatial data to professionals. To increase the impact of research-generated spatial data and truly turn them into digital maps for a broader user base, we have designed and developed the workflow and cyberinfrastructure to extend the current capability of our institutional data repository by visualizing the spatial data on the web. In this project, we added a GIS server to the original institutional data repository cyberinfrastructure, which enables web map services. Then, through a web mapping API, we visualized the spatial data as an interactive web map and embedded in the data repository web page. From the user’s perspective, researchers can still identify, cite and reuse the dataset by downloading the data and metadata and the DOI offered by the data repository. General information users can also browse the web maps to find location-based information. In addition, these data was ingested into the spatial data portal to increase the discoverability for spatial information users. Initial usage statistics suggest that this cyberinfrastructure has greatly improved the spatial data usage and extended the institutional data repository to facilitate spatial data sharing.

In contrast to traditional business workflow, scientific workflow is mainly used to describe and control the execution of scientific experiment and research. Currently, scientific workflow technology is widely adopted by E-science application. Geographic information system (GIS) is a rapid development branch of spatial information domain, which is applied to E-science application especially gas network application. This paper analyzes the work process of gas network application based on GIS service and introduces a scientific workflow of spatial data processing. Then a modeling method of scientific workflow for gas network application based on GIS service is proposed. Furthermore, a prototype of gas network safety evaluation (GNSE) is developed for verifying the scientific workflow model. Our experimental results show that various services could be efficiently managed and controlled by using scientific workflow to evaluate gas network safety. Finally the conclusion and future work are included.

Natural disasters like flood, earthquake, cyclone, volcanic eruption and others are causing immense losses to the property and lives every year. Current status and actual loss information on natural hazards can be determined and also prediction for next probable disasters can be made using different remote sensing and mapping technologies. Global Positioning System (GPS) calculates the exact position of damage. It can also communicate with wireless sensor nodes embedded in potentially dangerous places. GPS provides precise and accurate locations and other related information like speed, track, direction and distance of target objects to emergency responders.Remote Sensing facilitates to map damages without having physical contact with target area. Now with the addition of more remote sensing satellites and other advancements, early warning system is used very efficiently. Remote sensing is being used both at local and global scale. High Resolution Satellite Imagery (HRSI), airborne remote sensing and space-borne remote sensing is playing a vital role in disaster management.Early in Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to collect, arrange, and map the spatial information, but now it has the capability to analyze spatial data. This analytical ability of GIS is the main cause of its adoption by different emergency service providers like the police and ambulance service.The full potential of these so called 3S technologies cannot be used alone. Integration of GPS and other remote sensing techniques with GIS has pointed new horizons in modeling of earth science activities. Many remote sensing cases, including Asian Ocean Tsunami in 2004, Mount Mangart landslides and Pakistan-India earthquake in 2005 are described in this paper.

The European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN) was created with the aim to provide easy access to accurate information on alien species in Europe. EASIN allows the retrieval of spatial information from existing online data providers in order to produce integrated georeferenced distribution maps of alien species in Europe. In November 2012, a new data provider, the Ellenic Network on Aquatic Invasive Species (ELNAIS), joined EASIN; this has significantly increased the available georeferenced information on marine/estuarine alien species in Greek waters. Here, we use maps created by EASIN to show differences in patterns of distribution in Greece for the most abundant Phyla of marine alien species - Mollusca, Arthropoda, Chordata and Annelida. We also show that the two main pathways of introduction of marine alien species (Lessepsian migration and Shipping) are related to different patterns of species spatial distribution in Greece. Overall, the tools provided by EASIN can greatly aid scientists and policy makers in obtaining high quality information on marine alien species in Greece, especially after the association with ELNAIS.

The goal of this work is to study the use of WEB GIS open source solution for workflow organizing of urban planning documentation: zoning permit, building permit, occupancy permit, utilities connection. A web GIS solution Giscuit.Com developed by a moldavian company VEC.MD was used as a framework for implementation of test version of a specialized website Primaria.Giscuit.Com. Giscuit is a cost-effective web mapping platform built on powerful, cutting-edge, open source geospatial components. The goal is to make it as easy as possible to build more secure, reliable and modern web GIS applications. With Giscuit users stay in control of their content through centralized management of vector and raster spatial data. Giscuit allows users to visualize, share, edit and analyze geospatial data. It has powerful web-based administrator panel with features like data import, layer styling, user management, permissions management, publishing data and more. It is compliant with the Open Geospatial Consortium standards, this is achieved through OpenLayers or PHP MapScript supporting several OGC standards like WMS, WFS, WMC etc. Giscuit provides a scalable GIS server platform that can be deployed on a single Linux or Microsoft Windows machine, it can be distributed across multiple servers or deployed on cloud infrastructure.

Geospatial information plays an important role in environmental modelling, resource management, business operations, and government policy. However, very little or no commonality between formats of various geospatial data has led to difficulties in utilizing the available geospatial information. These disparate data sources must be aggregated before further extraction and analysis may be performed. The objective of this paper is to develop a framework called PlaniSphere, which aggregates various geospatial datasets, synthesizes raw data, and allows for third party customizations of the software. PlaniSphere uses NASA World Wind to access remote data and map servers using Web Map Service (WMS) as the underlying protocol that supports service-oriented architecture (SOA). The results show that PlaniSphere can aggregate and parses files that reside in local storage and conforms to the following formats: GeoTIFF, ESRI shape files, and KML. Spatial data retrieved using WMS from the Internet can create geospatial data sets (map data) from multiple sources, regardless of who the data providers are. The plug-in function of this framework can be expanded for wider uses, such as aggregating and fusing geospatial data from different data sources, by providing customizations to serve future uses, which the capacity of the commercial ESRI ArcGIS software is limited to add libraries and tools due to its closed-source architectures and proprietary data structures. Analysis and increasing availability of geo-referenced data may provide an effective way to manage spatial information by using large-scale storage, multidimensional data management, and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) capabilities in one system.

Metamaterial refers to artificial composite materials that exhibit extraordinary physical properties that are not found in natural materials. The extraordinary characteristics of metamaterials are derived from the physical response caused by artificially prepared, special non-uniform intercalated structures. Under the rapid development of society and the continuous advancement and development of science and technology, GIS and GPS GIS technology as spatial information analysis technology has begun to develop rapidly and widely. The frequency response characteristics of metamaterials can be adjusted in a wide range according to their structural parameters, so we can design them to work in the frequency range we need through the basic unit structure parameters of metamaterials. Compared with the existing information management methods, the introduction and application of geographic information system technology can provide strong spatial data processing, analysis, query and maintenance capabilities for afforestation project management, and can provide an effective working platform and modern information technology support for obtaining information and decision analysis in the management process of forestry major ecological engineering projects. Based on metamaterials, starting from the advantages of GIS, this paper focuses on analyzing the specific application of GIS in forestry engineering planning and design, and systematically introduces GIS software application technology. To realize the digitalization and networking of forestry projects so as to play a more active role in improving the modern management level of forestry ecological projects in China through the application and demonstration of high and new technologies.
