Xylazine/ketamine was shown to be the most cardio-depressive anaesthetic. The fall in cardiac output, in spite of increased vascular resistance, could not maintain BP within an acceptable range. Acepromazine/ketamine and premix/thiopental are comparable and less depressive than xylazine/ketamine.

Lighting is one of the key elements in any space and building infrastructure. Good design for an area in the building requires sufficient light that contributes to the efficiency of the activities. The correct method allows natural light to transmit, reduce heat and glare in providing a conducive learning environment. Light plays a significant influence to the quality of space and contributes focus of the students in an architecture studio. Previous research has shown that the effect of light also controlled emotions, behavior, and mood of the students. The operations of artificial lighting that have been used most of the time in an architecture studio during day and night may create lavishness and inadequacy at the same time. Therefore, this paper focuses on the identifying the quality of light for the architecture studio in UiTM (Perak), to instill a creative learning environment. Several methodologies adopted in this study such as illuminance level measurement using lux meter (LM-8100), and a questionnaire survey in gauging the lighting comfort level from students’ perspective. The study revealed that the illuminance level in the architecture studio is insufficient and not in the acceptable range stated in the Malaysian: Standards 1525:2007 and  not evenly distributed.  The study also concluded that the current studio environment is not condusive and appears monotonous.

Optimization in brown field developments is always challenging in terms of cost. One of it is XY Field, Rimau Block, South Sumatera with more than 70% of artificial lift is Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP). At ESP wells that are already running at maximum operating frequency of 60 Hz, some are still having problems to optimize their potential. The option to replace the pump with a higher rate is less of an option due to high cost. This leaves an opportunity to gain oil production by increasing frequency above 60 Hz. Upon discussion with the ESP Principal on the risks and possibilities, a trial was then planned for 3-wells. Candidates are selected from the list of ESP wells with the following criteria such as already operated at 60 Hz, still have sufficient fluid submergence, and based on simulated motor load at 70 Hz is still at safe motor load level. Frequency was increased gradually while continuously monitoring ESP Parameters (motor load, voltage and harmonic). It is also necessary to monitor the cable temperature as it is directly affected by the frequency changes. For each frequency increment, a well test is also performed to monitor the production changes. The trial was done on 3-wells (XY-364, XY-370 and XY-378), with the following promising results. XY-364 and XY-378 successfully reached the targeted 70Hz, while XY-370 stopped at 65Hz due to a cable temperature issue. Oil gain from this optimization was 48 BOPD with 1,043 BLPD and similar BS&W profile. ESP operation still normal until present day with all parameters at acceptable range. There were, however, challenges found during the trial. Cable temperature of XY-364 increased at junction box and found cable scun loosen. The problem was solved by replacing the cables. For XY-370, found temperature increment at moulded case circuit breaker during trial at 65 Hz. It was decided to hold at existing frequency. Unbalanced motor load at XY-364 and broken capacitor at XY-370 occurred at Harmonic Filter. The problem was solved by replacing the capacitor. The trial proves that we can operate ESP higher than base frequency (60 Hz) and resulted in decent oil gain. This opens an opportunity in ESP optimization above 60 Hz at an even larger scale.

A soil material high in crystalline Fe hydrous oxides and noncrystalline Al hydrous oxides collected from the Bw horizon of a Hemcross soil containing allophane from the state of Oregon was charged with phosphate-P at rates of 0, 2.2, and 6.5 mg·g−1, added to a soilless root medium at 5% and 10% by volume, and evaluated for its potential to supply phosphate at a low, stable concentration during 14 weeks of tomato (Solanum esculentumL.) seedling growth. Incorporation of the soil material improved pH stability, whether it was charged with phosphate or not. Bulk solution phosphate-P concentrations in the range of 0.13 to 0.34 mg·dm−3were associated with P deficiency. The only treatment that sustained an adequate bulk solution concentration of phosphate-P above 0.34 mg·dm−3for the 14 weeks of testing contained 10% soil material charged with 6.5 mg·g−1P, but initial dissolved P concentrations were too high (>5 mg·g−1phosphate-P) from the standpoint of phosphate leaching. The treatment amended with 10% soil material charged with 2.2 mg·g−1P maintained phosphate-P within an acceptable range of 0.4 to 2.3 mg·dm−3for 48 d in a medium receiving no postplant phosphate fertilization.

Tropical Storm Imelda struck the southeast coastal regions of Texas from 17–19 September, 2019, and delivered precipitation above 500 mm over about 6000 km2. The performance of the three IMERG (Early-, Late-, and Final-run) GPM satellite-based precipitation products was evaluated against Stage-IV radar precipitation estimates. Basic and probabilistic statistical metrics, such as CC, RSME, RBIAS, POD, FAR, CSI, and PSS were employed to assess the performance of the IMERG products. The products captured the event adequately, with a fairly high POD value of 0.9. The best product (Early-run) showed an average correlation coefficient of 0.60. The algorithm used to produce the Final-run improved the quality of the data by removing systematic errors that occurred in the near-real-time products. Less than 5 mm RMSE error was experienced in over three-quarters (ranging from 73% to 76%) of the area by all three IMERG products in estimating the Tropical Storm Imelda. The Early-run product showed a much better RBIAS relatively to the Final-run product. The overall performance was poor, as areas with an acceptable range of RBIAS (i.e., between −10% and 10%) in all the three IMERG products were only 16% to 17% of the total area. Overall, the Early-run product was found to be better than Late- and Final-run.

Loneliness has been examined by an increasing number of scholars, being implicated in numerous detrimental outcomes for mental and physical health. However, most loneliness prevalence studies have focused on particular age groups, thus overlooking how loneliness differs across the lifespan. This study assessed loneliness prevalence in a nationally representative sample ( n = 1,009) of the Maltese population aged 11 years and above using the 11-item De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, while also identifying associations between loneliness and sociodemographic factors. Results demonstrate that 43.5% of the Maltese population experiences some form of loneliness. The association between loneliness and age demonstrates a nonlinear relationship, with elevated loneliness rates among adolescents, which decrease slightly in early adulthood, before slowly increasing from age 35 onward. Loneliness is also significantly associated with education level, employment status, household composition, mortgage payment status, perception of income, presence of a disability, active citizenship, as well as self-rated physical health, coping ability, and subjective wellbeing. These findings indicate that loneliness is experienced in significant rates across the lifespan, and intervention efforts should be targeted toward individuals of all ages.

Abstract Purpose To analyse and compare the surface topography and roughness of three different types of diffractive multifocal IOLs. Methods Using scanning electron microscope (SEM, Inspect F, 5.0 KV, maximum magnification up to 20,000) and atomic force microscope (AFM, Park Systems, XE-100, non-contact, area profile comparison, 10 × 10 µm, 40 × 40 µm), the surface quality of the following diffractive IOLs was studied: the AcrySof IQ PanOptix (Alcon, USA), the AT LARA 829MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany), and Tecnis Symfony (Johnson&Johnson Vision, USA). The measurements were made over three representative areas (central non-diffractive optic, central diffractive optic, and diffractive step) of each IOL. Roughness profile in terms of mean arithmetic roughness (Ra) and root-mean-squared roughness (Rq) values were obtained and compared statistically. Results In SEM examination, all IOLs showed a smooth optical surface without any irregularities at low magnification. At higher magnification, Tecnis Symfony showed unique highly regular, concentric, and lineate structures in the diffractive optic area which could not be seen in the other studied diffractive IOLs. The differences in the measured Ra and Rq values of the Tecnis Symfony were statistically significant compared to the other models (p < 0.05). Conclusion Various different topographical traits were observed in three diffractive multifocal IOLs. The Ra values of all studied IOLs were within an acceptable range. Tecnis Symfony showed statistically significant higher surface Ra values at both central diffractive optic and diffractive step areas. Furthermore, compared to its counterparts, Tecnis Symfony demonstrated highly ordered, concentric pattern in its diffractive surfaces.

A 2D electrohydraulic proportional directional valve is proposed, which integrates both direct and pilot operation of the valve. In this valve, the output magnetic force of the proportional solenoid is converted to rotate the spool through a thrust-torsion coupling and thus the pressure in the valve sensitive chamber is varied. The varied pressure exerted on the areas of the spool end produces a hydrostatic force to move the spool linearly, which will rotate the spool reversely. Theoretical analysis is carried to the proposed valve and the effects of the key geometric parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the 2D valve and stability are investigated. Experiments are also designed to access to the characteristics of the valve working under direct and pilot operation. The 2D electrohydraulic valve can work properly for both direct operation and pilot operation. The hysteresis and frequency response are measured and the results are within the acceptable range in practical engineering application required of the directional proportional valve.
