How to Measure the Touristic Competitiveness: A Mixed Mode Model Proposal

In 2018, according to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the number of arrivals of international tourists worldwide reached 1.4 billion, which represents enormous potential for the sector and global economies. According to WTO, Italy is in the top ten of the countries with the greatest tourism competitiveness thanks above all to its natural and cultural resources. Today, in the globalized world, tourists are pressed by the opinion of travelers, the number of times that a location is mentioned and in which way influencers marketing consider it. The aim of this work is to create a composite indicator that allows us to evaluate the tourist competitiveness of Italian cities by evaluating both the data on the receptivity and the opinions of travelers. To do this, the official data of Istat have been taken together with Big Data, in particular information from the main holiday home platform and the opinions of travelers expressed on Twitter. Subjective and objective indicators have been produced. The results allow us to build a rating list of Italian touristic cities. Keywords: tourism, composite indicator, Big Data, Open Data, ranking

There is a worldwide trend of increasing interest in cultural tourism products, and the World Tourism Organization predicts that the cultural tourism market will be one of the five leading segments of the tourism market in the future. Local culture is an important feature of a tourist destination, and thanks to tourism, it becomes a flywheel of social and economic development. Cultural tourism is focused on cultural attractions and activities as the main reasons for traveling, and the participation of cultural tourism in all tourist movements is increasing. Thus in France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, income from tourists whose primary goal is to get acquainted with cultural goods and cultural achievements exceed 1/3 of total tourism revenues. Starting from the above, this paper focuses on the analysis of the key problems of the development of cultural tourism and the possibilities of enriching tourist destinations with cultural offer through the development of a cultural product, as a way of increasing the value of a comprehensive tourist offer and attracting a large number of tourists. It concludes with a brief analysis of the key issues for this field of cultural policy in the Republic of Serbia and recommendations on how to make a tourist attraction from a cultural resource and to achieve greater satisfaction of the tourists with their stay in a destination.

World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the major source of internationally comparable data on tourism. However, UNWTO data has two drawbacks: it focuses on international trips and ignores differences between regions within individual countries. Alternative sources of big data are increasingly used to enhance tourism statistics. In this paper, we combine traditional information sources with gridded population dataset and Airbnb data to address the limitations of UNWTO statistics. We produce a map of world tourism destinations measured by the number of tourism visits and tourism expenditure in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. We then identify hot spots of tourism and compare the level of spatial concentration of tourism to that of global population and economy. The results illustrate how supply and demand shape the global distribution of tourism, highlight the dominance of domestic travels in global tourism mobility and may help planning tourism policy in the face of current global challenges.

Penelitian ini adalah sebuah usaha yang dilakukan untuk mengurai masalah yang dihadapi para stakeholder dalam mewujudkan sebuah pengelolaan pariwisata yang berkelanjutan di kawasan Danau Toba. Indikator yang diukur dalam penelitian ini adalah indikator dasar dari 5 (lima) isu utama pengembangan periwisata berkelanjutan yang telah dikembangkan oleh United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan diperkuat dengan data-data yang bersifat kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran indikator-indikator dasar tersebut dan pendalaman yang dilakukan dengan diskusi-diskusi yang dilakukan dengan para informan penelitian, diketahui bahwa sebenarnya penyelesaian persoalan dasar pengembangan pariwisata berkelanjutan di sebuah destinasi wisata masih menjadi tugas besar bagi para stakeholder kepariwisataan di kawasan tersebut. Berdasarkan jenis permasalahan yang ada, maka terdapat kebutuhan kebijakan pengembangan terkait: 1) peningkatkan perekonomian dengan adanya kegiatan pariwisata; 2) penjaminan kesejahteraan daerah dan masyarakat lokal dengan adanya kegiatan pariwisata; 3) pemenuhan kepuasan pengunjung; 4) pelibatan masyarakat lokal di dalam pengelolaan kepariwisataan; dan 5) penjaminan kelestarian lingkungan hidup.   Kata kunci: pengembangan, pariwisata berkelanjutan, Danau Toba

The effective, efficient and equitable policing of urban areas rests on an appreciation of the qualities and scale of, as well as the factors shaping, demand. It also requires an appreciation of the factors shaping the resources deployed in their address. To this end, this article probes the extent to which policing demand (crime, anti-social behaviour, public safety and welfare) and deployment (front-line resource) are similarly conditioned by the social and physical urban environment, and by incident complexity. The prospect of exploring policing demand, deployment and their interplay is opened through the utilisation of big data and artificial intelligence and their integration with administrative and open data sources in a generalised method of moments (GMM) multilevel model. The research finds that policing demand and deployment hold varying and time-sensitive association with features of the urban environment. Moreover, we find that the complexities embedded in policing demands serve to shape both the cumulative and marginal resources expended in their address. Beyond their substantive policy relevance, these findings serve to open new avenues for urban criminological research centred on the consideration of the interplay between policing demand and deployment.

The general objective of the study programme is specified as being: To identify the major trends in tourism supply and demand worldwide and by region and their impact on the various sectors of tourism trades; together with implications for policy making and relevant strategies.

Endowed with stunning natural beauty, Sleman has become a destination increasingly flooded by tourists from year to year. The rapid development of tourism does have a positive impact, especially on the economic side, but on the other hand, it can have a negative impact if the management does not prioritize the principles of sustainable tourism. The type of tourism that can be affected is tourism that relies on nature as its main attraction, Cliff of Breksi is one of them. Cliff of Breksi has experienced rapid development in terms of the number of tourist visits, but it has never been examined whether its management is following the principle of sustainability. The objectives of this research are: a) to identify the management of the environmental aspects of Cliff of Breksi, whether it is following the indicators of sustainable tourism from The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and b) determine what things need to be improved so that management can be more optimal. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations. The results of the study indicate that the manager has so far had awareness and understanding in applying the principles of sustainable tourism as in the indicators of UNWTO sustainable tourism.
