Abstract: In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyse the implications of tax reforms after the economic liberalization in 1991 with respect to collection of indirect tax revenue of the Government of India during the last two decades (2000-20). The composition of indirect tax revenue of the Government has undergone a drastic change during the last two decades. Post implementation of the GST Act, the levy of Central Excise has been restricted to petroleum and tobacco products and GST has evolved as the major contributor to the indirect tax revenue collections followed by the Customs Duty. Comparative analysis of indirect tax collections of the Central Government with respect to its growth, share in gross tax revenue, percentage of GDP and composition has been done for the period from 2000-01 to 2019-20. The current study has revealed the growth rate of indirect taxes has not only been uneven but also declined during the year 2001-02, 2008-09 and 2009-10. The share of indirect tax in the gross tax revenue has also gradually declined from 63% in 2000-01 to 46% in 2019- 20%. The indirect tax-GDP ratio has remained stagnant in the range of 3.5 to 5.5 % during the last two decades.

This study investigates the time evolution of market efficiency in the Japanese stock markets, considering three indices: Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX), Tokyo Stock Exchange Second Section Index, and TOPIX-Small. The Hurst exponent reveals that the Japanese markets are inefficient in their early stages and improve gradually. TOPIX and TOPIX-Small showed an anti-persistence around the year 2000, which still persists. The degree of multifractality varies over time and does not show that the Japanese markets are permanently efficient. The multifractal properties of the Japanese markets changed considerably around the year 2000; this may have been caused by the complete migration from the stock trading floor to the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s computer trading system and the financial system reform, also known as the “Japanese Big Bang”.

AbstractThe present review gives an overview about the status of research on seasonal variation of natural products in herbs growing in or grown in Europe. Due to pronounced differences in weather patterns, papers covering plants from the Mediterranean, the temperate, and the cold climate zones are reviewed separately. Apart from trying to give an overview of the existing newer literature after the year 2000, we try to identify some repeatedly found seasonal trends and discuss some possible explanations for these trends. Moreover, some suggestions, which encompass both research bias and desirable quality standards concerning experimental designs for future studies, are given. The covered investigations are mainly focused on aerial parts and leaves. Some publications are also dealing with flowers and roots. The composition of essential oils of aromatic plants are particularly well investigated. Phenolics are the most often studied compound class, including different types of phenolic acids, flavonoids, and tannins. Additionally, some papers assess the seasonal variation of alkaloids and lipophilic compounds.

The objective of this work is to analyze the Indice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC), which is the Mexican stock market index, by using several statistical tools in order to study the tendencies that can shed light on the evolution of the IPC towards a more efficient market. The methodology used is to apply the statistical tools to the Mexican index and compare the results with a mature and well-known market index such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). We employ an autocorrelation analysis, and the volatility of the indexes, applied to the daily returns of the closing price on a moving time window during the studied period (1980–2018). Additionally, we perform an order three permutation entropy analysis, which can quantify the disorder present in the time series. Our results show that there is evidence that the IPC has become more mature since its creation and that it can be considered an efficient market since around year 2000. The behavior of the several techniques used shows a similar behavior to the DJIA which is not observed before that year. There are some limitations mainly because there is no high frequency data that would permit a more detailed analysis, specifically in the periods before and after a crisis is located. Our conclusion is that since around the year 2000, the Mexican stock index displays the typical behavior of other mature markets and can be considered as one.

AbstractThe measurement of atmospheric O2 concentrations and related oxygen budget have been used to estimate terrestrial and oceanic carbon uptake. However, a discrepancy remains in assessments of O2 exchange between ocean and atmosphere (i.e. air-sea O2 flux), which is one of the major contributors to uncertainties in the O2-based estimations of the carbon uptake. Here, we explore the variability of air-sea O2 flux with the use of outputs from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6). The simulated air-sea O2 flux exhibits an obvious warming-induced upward trend (∼1.49 Tmol yr−2) since the mid-1980s, accompanied by a strong decadal variability dominated by oceanic climate modes. We subsequently revise the O2-based carbon uptakes in response to this changing air-sea O2 flux. Our results show that, for the 1990–2000 period, the averaged net ocean and land sinks are 2.10±0.43 and 1.14±0.52 GtC yr−1 respectively, overall consistent with estimates derived by the Global Carbon Project (GCP). An enhanced carbon uptake is found in both land and ocean after year 2000, reflecting the modification of carbon cycle under human activities. Results derived from CMIP5 simulations also investigated in the study allow for comparisons from which we can see the vital importance of oxygen dataset on carbon uptake estimations.

The subject of the present dissertation is to emphasize the importance of promoting and using the Health Education Theory and strategies, as an advance that manages to overcome the models that are used within patient care, through traditional methods, which focus on diseases, their prevention and treatments if they are present, giving priority to research to care for diseases, thus only fighting against morbid processes, which have already manifested themselves, from the level prevention or care. The Health Education is a strategy established in Ottawa, Canada in 1986, at the First World Conference on Health Promotion, where it is defined as: the process that provides individuals and communities with the means necessary to exercise greater control over their own health and thus be able to improve it, with its motto "Health for all in the year 2000", which has remained a utopian ideal at this time, still implies a challenge for the new Century and the changes in the comprehensive health approach.

The evolution of Nobel prize awards is studied as a learning/growing process. A simple logistic function describes the data well and accounts for the competition, be it between individuals or between nations. The American niche appears to be 64% exhausted by 1987, implying a diminishing expected rate of laureates in the future. Europeans have been losing ground continuously from the beginning while the remaining world has recently received more awards. Projections to the year 2000 and beyond are given. Correlations with age support the Darwinian nature of the competition for Nobel prizes. Awards to women show peaks coincidental with outbursts of feminism.

The Palghar region (north Maharashtra, India), located in the northwestern part of the stable continental region of India, experienced a low magnitude earthquake swarm, which was initiated in September 2018 and is continuing to date (as of October 2021). From December 2018 to December 2020, ~5000 earthquakes with magnitudes from M1.2 to M3.8 occurred in a small region of 20 × 10 km2. These earthquakes were probably triggered by fluid migration during seasonal rainfall. In this study, we have used multi-temporal Landsat satellite data of the year 2000, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2020, extracted lineaments, and studied the changes in frequency and pattern of lineaments before and after the initiation of the swarm in the Palghar region. An increase in the lineament density and amount of rainfall are found to be associated with the increasing frequency of earthquakes.

The study presents results from applying the Real Aperture Radar interferometry technique and Digital Image Correlation through a mobile phone camera to identify static and dynamic deformations of a gantry during surveying operations on the Michelangelo’s David at the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze Museum in Florence. The statue has considerable size and reaches an elevation of more than seven meters on its pedestal. An ad-hoc gantry was designed and deployed, given the cramped operating area around the statue. The scanner had a stability control system that forbid surveying in instrument movements. However, considering the unicity of the survey and its rare occurrence, the previous survey had been carried out in the year 2000; verifying stability and recording deformations is a crucial task, and necessary for validation. As the gantry does not have an on-board stability sensor, and considering the hi-survey accuracy requested, a redundant, contactless, remote monitoring system of the gantry and the statue stability was chosen to guarantee the maximum freedom of movement around the David to avoid any interference during scanning operations. Thanks to the TInRAR technique, the gantry and the statue were monitored with an accuracy of 0.01 mm. At the same time, a Digital Image Correlation analysis was performed on the gantry, which can be considered a Multi-Degree-Of-Freedom (MDOF) system, to accurately calculate the vibration frequency and amplitude. A comparison between TInRAR and DIC results reported substantial accordance in detecting gantry’s oscillating frequencies; a predominant oscillation frequency of 1.33 Hz was identified on the gantry structure by TinSAR and DIC analysis.
