The need to use data visualization and visual analysis in various fields has led to the development of feature-rich standalone applications such as Tableau and MS Power BI. These applications provide ready-to-use functionality for loading, analyzing and visualizing data, even for users who are not familiar with programming and scripting. Meanwhile, data scientists have to combine many different tools and techniques in their daily work, since no standalone application can yet cover the entire workflow. As a result, a rich landscape of open source libraries is available today, covering various tasks from data analysis to modeling and visualization. To combine the best of two worlds, interfaces for scripting languages have been integrated into standalone applications in recent years. We analyzed which interfaces to six common scripting languages are offered. The interfaces offer different levels of integration and therefore support different steps of the data science workflow. In this paper we investigated the integration levels of script languages in standalone applications and divided them into four groups. We used this classification to evaluate 13 standalone visual analysis applications currently available on the market. We then analyzed which groups of applications best support which steps in the data science workflow. We found that a tight integration of scripting languages can especially support the explorative analysis and modeling phase of the data science workflow. We also discuss our results in the light of visual analysis research and give suggestions for future research directions.

An opportune early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) would help to overcome symptoms and improve the quality of life for AD patients. Research studies have identified early manifestations of AD that occur years before the diagnosis. For instance, eye movements of people with AD in different tasks differ from eye movements of control subjects. In this review, we present a summary and evolution of research approaches that use eye tracking technology and computational analysis to measure and compare eye movements under different tasks and experiments. Furthermore, this review is targeted to the feasibility of pioneer work on developing computational tools and techniques to analyze eye movements under naturalistic scenarios. We describe the progress in technology that can enhance the analysis of eye movements everywhere while subjects perform their daily activities and give future research directions to develop tools to support early AD diagnosis through analysis of eye movements.

This chapter explores the use of Flipgrid for student engagement in a gradual three-level process of technology integration. The three levels of integration, or “immersion,” are acclimation, movement, and submersion, and this is demonstrated by comparing Flipgrid integration to a day at the beach. Flipgrid is a comprehensive tool that provides opportunities for educators to integrate it into their face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses to a limited extent or to fully use all of the features available to them at no cost. The background of Flipgrid, as well as the benefits of using video as an educational tool, was thoroughly researched to provide evidence to support the use of Flipgrid for student engagement and assessment. The chapter concludes by including the limitations of Flipgrid and future research directions.


In this paper the authors have used a systematic literature review to provide benchmarking on influencing parameters for graph partitioning tools, which is the principal contribution of the present paper. Tools are compared on the basis of parameters which will impact the performance of tool. The paper elucidates about the tools and techniques along with their features, merits and demerits and also highlighted on influencing parameters which is missing in other reviews. These techniques are analysed by identifying merits and demerits of each technique. This research paper can help the researchers to choose the appropriate tool or technique for their own partitioning problems. Also authors have suggested future research directions and anomalies for improvement in tools and techniques for Graph Partitioning.
