The purpose of this research is to compare the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation training, guided imagery and the combination of these two methods on sleep quality and headache coping strategies for women with migraine in Arak city. The statistical population of this study is all women with migraine headaches in Arak city, and a statistical sample of 90 people was selected by simple random sampling from the referrals to 4 private clinics of neurology and psychiatry. Therefore, 30 subjects were placed in experimental group 1 (relaxation), 30 in experimental group 2 (guided imagery) and 30 in experimental group 3 (combination of these two methods), where the subjects were matched in terms of gender, age and education level. The research method was of extended designs of the experimental designs, and a questionnaire was used in addition to using the library method for collecting data. The scales used in this study were 3 scales of sleep quality, pain (migraine) coping strategies and demographics. Inferential statistics (covariance) were used for data analysis; the results showed that progressive muscle relaxation training, guided imagery, and the combination of these two methods had a positive effect on migraine headache coping strategies and sleep quality in women with migraine. There was also a difference in the effectiveness of the two methods of progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery and the combination of these two methods on the strategies for coping with migraine headaches and sleep quality of these women, and the combined method was more effective than the other two methods separately. The studies of this research concluded that the guided imagery technique focuses on cognitive and emotional components and can be used to improve migraine headaches due to the ability of imagination force of people to initiate, exacerbate or sustain attacks of effective headache, as well as the progressive muscle relaxation increases the parasympathetic cycle activity, which consequently leads to nerve stress neutralizing and ineffectiveness, and this adaptive skill prevents raising its symptoms through breaking the chain of undesirable effects of stress, thereby it can improve the quality of life in migraine patients.Given that migraine is an important health problem, and considering that migraine studies are very limited and little applied research has been conducted in this field, therefore performing a comprehensive study is necessary for developing appropriate strategies.

Background: Sleep is one part of physiological needs and it is a basic need which is needed by all humans to be able to function optimally. However, the elderly will often experience sleep disorders. Sleep disorders in the elderly will affect the quality of sleep. One of nursing intervention that can improve the elderly sleeping quality is progressive muscle relaxation therapy. This study aims to determine the differences of sleep quality before and after having progressive muscle relaxation therapy toward the elderly with sleep disorders. Methods: This research was conducted at the Tresna Werdha Sabai Nan Aluih Social Home, Sicincin in 2019. The research was conducted for 2 weeks with one-week intervention. This research is a Quasy experiment using one group pre-test and post-test without control group design approach. This study used the sample of 16 respondents taken by purposive sampling. The analysis of data uses dependent T-test with a significance level of 95% (α 0.05).Results: The results of the study found that the average sleep quality of the elderly before being given the intervention was 13.63 and after the intervention it became 8.44 with p value of 0.000.Conclusions: The results showed that there were significant differences before and after the intervention. For this reason, it is recommended for the elderly with sleep disorders to be able to do progressive muscle relaxation therapy to improve sleep quality.

Introduction : Patients with hypertension patients can have sleep disorders such as dizziness or headache, feeling tired during the day, anxiety, decreasing concentration and irritability. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) on sleep quality in patients with hypertension in South Cilacap City. Method : The research used quasi-experiment with pre-post test without control group. Respondents werw patients with hypertension in South Cilacap City, with the criteria forthose who were active in health care programme, able to perform independent activities, consume of anti-hypertensive drugs, have done PMR regularly for 7 days, and the exclusion criteria was patients with impaired osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality twice, before and 7 days after interventions PMR. Statistic analysis used wilcoxon test. 16 respondents included in the criteria. Result : The quality of sleep before treatment PMR was 7 people (43.8%) poor, 9 people (56.3%) very bad. After treatment PMR was 3 people (18.8%) rather good, 13 people (81.3%) less good. The analysis shown the sleep quality was difference between before and after PMR with p-value <0.001. Discussion : The study shows there is difference between before and after PMR in hypertensive patients in South Cilacap. PMR can be used to improve the sleep quality of hypertensive patients.

In the elderly, physiological changes occur physiologically decreasing the number and size of neurons in the central nervous system resulting in the elderly unable to meet their normal sleep needs. One of the therapies to improve sleep quality in the elderly is to massage the neck using virgin coconut oil (VCO). This study aims to determine the effect of cervical massage with VCO on sleep quality in the elderly. The research design used was pre-experimental with One-group Pretest - Posttest Design and the number of respondents was 20 people. The results showed sleep quality before being given progressive muscle relaxation therapy obtained an average sleep quality of 7.9 with a standard deviation of 1.4 and after being given progressive muscle relaxation a mean sleep quality of 4.5 with a standard deviation of 0.83. Based on data analysis using the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test, p value = 0,000 <α (0.05) is obtained, which means there is an effect of nape massage with VCO on sleep quality in the elderly. Based on the results of the study, it is expected that the elderly with sleep quality problems can routinely perform neck massage with VCO regularly and continuously.

Many people find it difficult to practice progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) regularly. We attempted to improve relaxation quantity (i.e. adherence), and relaxation quality via placebo. A total of 100 women were randomly assigned to a standard group, which practiced PMR at home every day for two weeks, or a placebo group, which practiced PMR for two weeks with additional daily placebo treatment. To monitor adherence to relaxation practice, we used a smartphone app. The placebo group practiced more often than the standard group. Both groups did not differ in their reported relaxation level after the daily exercises.
