Sleep has been found to have a beneficial effect on memory consolidation. It has furthermore frequently been suggested that sleep does not strengthen all memories equally. The aim of this literature review was to examine the studies that have measured whether sleep selectively strengthens certain kinds of declarative memories more than others, depending on such factors as emotion, reward, test-expectancy or different instructions during encoding. The review of this literature revealed that although some support exists that sleep is more beneficial for certain kinds of memories, the majority of studies does not support such an effect. A second aim of this review was to examine which factors during sleep that have been found to selectively benefit certain memories over others, with a special focus on the often-suggested claim that rapid eye movement sleep primarily consolidates emotional memories. The review of this literature revealed that no sleep variable has been reliably found to be specifically associated with the consolidation of certain kinds of memories over others.

Partnership with startups offers large firms knowledge about, and access to new technologies. Incumbents’ emphasis on corporate-startup collaboration has therefore reached a new level and various models for corporate-startup collaboration can now be found among large enterprises. “Co-creation” between large firms and technology startups, is one of these models that increases in traction. The model is, however, under-researched and research on frameworks and metrics for evaluating the business effects from corporate-startup co-creation is scarce. The purpose of this paper is therefore to extend the existing body of knowledge by investigating frameworks and metrics for evaluating corporate-startup “co-creation” and to suggest a framework for evaluation of corporate-startup co-creation programs. A literature review on identified frameworks and metrics is presented, covering research findings on evaluation models for corporate-startup collaboration. The main finding in this paper is a “multi-stakeholder framework” for evaluating the collaboration’s results in corporate-startup co-creation models.

The purpose of this paper is to take a critical, analytical approach to the concepts of waste and value in the lean literature and how the concepts are applied in organisations’ lean efforts and the ambiguity surrounding the concept of value.

A review of the literature of lean was undertaken with a specific focus of the definitions of waste and value. In addition, it is illustrated how four case companies work with waste and value within a lean context. The literature review revealed that there have been significantly more frequent and exhaustive discussions of waste than of value. Waste is often related to the seven wastes, but value is rarely clearly defined. The cases show an exclusive focus on waste reduction, which we argue can result in a loss of value.
This paper provides a critical review of the relationship between waste and value and some of the consequences caused by the actions taken by companies regarding solely focusing on waste. This paper demonstrates the order winner and order qualifier dimensions should be regarded in the analysis of waste and value, and incorporated in the lean toolbox. In the lean research literature there is lack of discussion of the actual value for the customer. We argue that finding a special concept of value in the lean literature would be desirable, and elaborating on value as a specific tool in the lean toolbox, since the concept of ‘waste’ cannot replace the concept of ‘value’.

Ostectomy is a surgical maneuver that can affect tissue repair, increasing the overall morbidity of the procedure. The type of equipment or surgical armamentarium can directly influence bone repair. The aim of this study was to perform a literature review concerning the use of piezoelectric technology in oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures evaluating its indications, advantages and disadvantages. For the preparation of this critical review of the literature, a search of scientific articles was carried out in PUBMED until the year 2012. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria porposed by the authors, a total of 28 articles were found compatible to the objective of the study. As a conclusion, it can be stated that the piezoeletric system has been shown to be a very promising surgical technique indicated to oral surgeries, and providing accurate, clean, and minimally traumatic osteotomies for the soft tissues. However, there is na accentuated wear of the ultrasonic tips increasing the costs of the system and the time spent in the procedures.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to identify, through a critical review of the literature, what are the instruments used to assess the expressiveness of voice professionals and what are the parameters addressed in these instruments. Methods: a literature search was carried out on four platforms: Scopus, Science Direct, SAGE Journals and Medline. The search considered the period from 2006 to 2016 and original articles, theses, dissertations and specialization monographs were considered to compose the sample. Results: 5,295 productions were found in the four databases. Of these, after the filters by title of the production, evaluation of the summary, and content of the article, there were 39 articles with thematic expressiveness and voice professionals of which only seven presented some type of speech-language evaluation instrument that approached expressiveness. Conclusion: five studies presented their instruments in their entirety and of these, two were published in national journals, and none of them were validated. When the expressivity parameters are mentioned, those registered in greater numbers are those related to oral expressiveness. The parameters of nonverbal expressivity are still timid, with the predominant use of three variables, namely facial expression, gestures and posture.

Laccases are versatile multi-copper enzymes belonging to the superfamily of oxidase enzymes, which have been known since the nineteenth century. Recent discoveries have refined investigators' views of the potential of laccase as a magic tool for remarkable biotechnological purposes. A literature review of the capabilities of laccases, their assorted substrates, and their molecular mechanism of action now indicates the emergence of a new direction for laccase application as part of an arsenal in the fight against the contamination of water supplies by a number of frequently prescribed medications. This chapter provides a critical review of the literature and reveals the pivotal role of laccases in the elimination and detoxification of pharmaceutical contaminants in aquatic environments and wastewaters.

Introduction: Response to indomethacin is an essential feature for the diagnosis of both paroxysmal hemicrania (PH) and hemicrania continua (HC). Cluster headache (CH) is widely considered to be a disease unresponsive to indomethacin. Case reports: We report four patients with CH who responded to indomethacin. Two patients, who were refractory to the usual therapy for CH, fulfilled the criteria for chronic CH. Conversely, two patients had a history of episodic CH and showed response to both indomethacin and the usual therapy for CH. Literature review: We also reviewed the literature for the presence of indomethacin response in patients with CH. We noted a large number of cases labeled as CH by the authors which showed a response to indomethacin. Discussion: Many cases of definite or possible CH were wrongly labeled as PH because of patients' responding to indomethacin. Conclusion: The response to indomethacin in patients with CH may not be as immediate as in other indomethacin-responsive headaches, and many patients may need larger doses.

A literature review was performed including studies that evaluated the use of cleaning protocols for removable dentures through questionnaires, clinical trials, randomized clinical trials, and systematic reviews. Twenty studies were included and the results showed that bad preservation of the prostheses is mainly due to low knowledge about cleaning habits and methods. Also, a wide variety of effective cleaning methods were presented. However, there is no standard protocol for all patients and it should be customized for each patient. It is important to highlight that dentists should give adequate instructions concerning maintenance and hygiene of the prosthesis.

Keywords

Dental prosthesis; Oral hygiene; Oral health.

Auditory hallucinations are a key symptom of schizophrenia. It is estimated that the prevalence of auditory hallucinations in people with schizophrenia range from 64.3% to 83.4%. The auditory hallucinations impacted on daily lives of the sufferer. An extensive review of the literature was undertaken to find symptom management that has been developed in reducing auditory hallucinations from CINAHL, PsyInfo, Health and Medical Complete, ProQuest Psychology Journals, ProQuest Social Journals, Science Direct, Web of Science and Scopus. Based on the analysis of the 15 articles, evidence was suggested that CBT and other psychological treatments have beneficial for individuals who experience auditory hallucinations. However, individuals who experience auditory hallucinations are not just sufferers who need to be treated but people who can develop their own strategies of living with auditory hallucinations. Therefore it is important for nurses to involve them in the management of the auditory hallucinations.Key words: Auditory hallucinations, literature review, symptom management.
