Students’ attitudes towards questioning strategies play an important role for its implementation success or failure. This study aims to investigate the students’ attitudes towards questioning strategies of critical reading skills among Jordanian female ninth-grade students in Al Qaser Directorate of Education. A semi-structured interview instrument was used to assess students’ attitudes. Data were collected from students at three public schools located in Qaser, Karak, Jordan. A total of 85 students participated in this present study. The sample which includes interviewees was 15 students. Overall, students showed favorable attitudes towards questioning strategies. However, some students faced some challenges by using these strategies e.g. self- questioning strategy. In light of these results, several recommendations were suggested to the Ministry of Education, English teachers and other researchers. The researcher also suggested that further research should be carried out on other school levels for boys and girls in order to support or refute the results of this study.

This study examines the potential effect of questioning strategies on Jordanian English as a foreign language ninth-grade students’ critical reading skills. The study uses a quasi-experimental, pre-/post-test design. An experimental group of 85 ninth-grade students from three public schools in Al-Qasr Directorate of Education (Karak, Jordan) was taught through questioning strategies (viz., questioning, self-questioning and a combination of both), and a control group of 19 students was taught per the guidelines of the prescribed Teacher’s Book. Descriptive statistics and analysis of co-variance were used to analyse the students’ scores on the pre- and post-tests. The findings reveal that the experimental group outperformed the control group, as questioning and self-questioning improved students’ critical reading skills, more so for questioning than self-questioning. The study aimed at showing the effect of using Mental Imagination strategy in developing critical reading skills for ninth grade students in Gaza. The study used the experimental method and suitable critical reading skills for nine grade were identified. The sample of the study consisted of 81 students (ninth grade) distributed to an experimental group (41 students) and a controlled group (40 student), reading subjects were taught to the experimental group by using the Mental Imagination strategy which was applied by a teacher who received training related to this strategy. The controlled group were taught by using traditional methods. After a test was implemented to measure the critical reading skills and conducting statistical treatments by using Ancova, the study revealed that there was an effect on using the Mental Imagination strategy in developing targeted critical reading skills. It also clarified that there were significant differences at a ≤ 0.01 between the experimental and controlled group grades in the post test of critical reading skills attributed to the experimental group.

As plants are vital to the survival of the planet, developing positive attitude towards them is important for protection of plants, biodiversity, and the environment. The aim of this research was to determine the predictors of ninth grade students’ attitude towards plants. In the study, a descriptive correlational design was used. The data were collected from 773 upper-secondary students selected through stratified-purposive sampling. The “Plant Recognition Test” and “Plant Attitude Scale” were used as data collection tools. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the way different variables predicted attitude towards plants. The results of research indicated that the linear relationship between predictive variables and attitude towards plants explained 14% of the total variance in attitude towards plants at a significant level. Among the variables, gender, time spent in a garden, involvement in indoor or outdoor cultivation, experience with picking flowers, fruits, and/or vegetables, and plant recognition level had significant contributions to predicting variance in attitude towards plants, and the recognition of plants was determined to be the most important predictor relative to all the other variables. Keywords: descriptive correlational design, plant recognition, secondary education

Abstract Background Tooth decay is one of the diseases that is closely related to people’s behaviors and it can have adverse effects on their performance and their success in the future. Brushing twice a day is the simplest and most effective way to reduce tooth decay. The study aim was to determining the roles of correlational factors based on the Pender’s health promotion model in brushing behavior of ninth grade students at urban public schools of Guilan province during the academic year 2019. Methods The present study was cross-sectional and had a descriptive-analytical type. We performed the multi-stage random sampling on 761 ninth-grade students (374 girls and 387 boys) at urban public schools of six counties (ten cities) of Guilan province in 2019. The primary tool was a questionnaire on oral health behaviors focusing on brushing behavior. In the present study, which was conducted only on brushing behavior, we revised and changed the initial questionnaire during the sessions of the research team, and then confirmed its validity and reliability. The questionnaire consisted of three parts, demographic characteristics, constructs of health promotion model, and brushing behavior. We analyzed data in SPSS 21 using regression models. Results 20.1% of students brushed their teeth at least twice a day. Optimal behavior had a statistically significant relationship with parents’ education level, and gender. Based on the regression model, the health promotion model constructs described 58% of the variance of the commitment to plan of action. Perceived self-efficacy, situational influences, and perceived barriers of action had significantly stronger relationships with commitment to plan of action respectively. Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that one-unit increase in scores of commitment to plan of action and self-efficacy increased the chance of desired behavior by 12 and 14% respectively. Conclusion Due to the low rate of brushing behavior in the students and the predictive power of the health promotion model in brushing behavior, we suggest planning and implementation of educational interventions for this group with an emphasis on influencing the commitment to plan of action, self-efficacy, and also the level of knowledge.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of the electronic mind map (IMindMap) on the development of reading comprehension among the ninth grade students in Jordan. The sample of the study consisted of two ninth grade sections from two public schools in Irbid First Directorate during the academic 2016-2017. Each section consisted of (30) students and the two sections were assigned randomly to an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was taught the chosen texts using the Electronic Mind Mapping strategy while the control group was taught the same texts using the traditional method. The study data were collected using a reading comprehension test that was administered for both groups as a pre and a posttest. The statistical analysis showed a significant difference at the level of (α=0.05) between the mean scores of both groups in favor of the experimental group. Besides, the findings showed that the effect of applying the electronic mind maps in teaching reading texts was medium. Based on the findings of the study, a number of recommendations were made for both teachers and the Ministry of Education. The most notable recommendation was to train teachers in general and English teachers in particular on how to design electronic mind maps and apply them in their teaching practices.

A study of fifty-four female and fifty-nine male Gymnasium (high school) students from four ninth-grade classes oriented toward natural sciences and mathematics surveyed students' attitudes toward computers in relation to gender and computer experience and found that males showed a more positive attitude toward computers than females, even when computer experience was controlled. An additional study of fifty-one females and fifty-four males from the initial sample found that males did show more interest in computer science than females, but these differences could not explain gender differences in computer attitude.
