We investigated the impact of customers' image congruity and their satisfaction on customer retention at luxury restaurants. We examined the conspicuousness of product consumption as the moderator in the relationship of image congruity and customer satisfaction. Our assessment of the measurement model revealed acceptable levels of reliability and construct validity. Our findings from the structural model assessment indicated that both image congruity and customer satisfaction exerted an influence on customer retention that was sufficiently significant to explain the total variance in retention. In addition, results showed that customer satisfaction was prominent in determining retention, acting as a significant mediator. Conspicuousness of product consumption was a significant moderator of the relationship between image congruity and customer satisfaction. Overall, our findings offer researchers and practitioners in the luxury restaurant industry valuable information regarding customer retention.

Taking a case study of tourism as hospitality industry in Lampung Province in Indonesia, we analyze the antecedent of customer satisfaction and its impact on customer retention. Using Structural Equation Model (SEM), we find that customer relationship management has a significant impact on service quality, customer satisfaction and customer retention. Moreover, the impact of service quality on customer satisfaction and the one of customer satisfaction on customer retention are also significant. Relying on the findings, we recommend some strategies for the government of Lampung Province, e.g. training local people to behave more friendly in welcoming domestic or international tourists, fixing all lodging facilities, creating more souvenirs with Lampung’s ornaments and developing management system adopting global changes in technology, communication and trend.

An increasing number of institutions are making customer satisfaction a main concern. The aim of this study is to highlight the importance of customer satisfaction in the service industry. This study was carried out via a questionnaire involving 200 customers of hotel located in urban areas namely, Georgetown, Penang. It can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between customer satisfaction and customer retention. Drawing on educational census data and a review of news articles and higher education policies in Brazil, this article examines the impact of COVID-19 on the access and retention of the low-income Brazilian population in higher education. Guided by the question, “What is the impact of COVID-19 on the most vulnerable population in Brazil in terms of access to, and retention in higher education?”, the paper is structured in two sections: the first offers a short historical overview of Brazilian higher education; the second examines the impact of the pandemic on student retention in higher education, looking at factors such as social isolation, job and income precarity, use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), internet access, and technological resources. I argue that distance education offered by private higher education institutions benefits the privileged students and that the effects of the pandemic are detrimental to the socially disadvantaged students since those who are in public universities do not always have access to technology, and those who study in private universities feel the impact of not being able to pay tuition fees, besides the loss of several jobs in different sectors. In conclusion, I recommend policy initiatives to improve access to higher education.
