Hydatid cyst is a common zoonosis, affecting the liver and lungs in the endemic areas. Occasionally it involves the brain. We present a rare case of multicystic cerebral Hydatid cyst present over a long time in an adult patient with some odd radiological features like calcification and discuss the relevant literature. In endemic areas, neurosurgeons must be aware of this entity.Nepal Journal of Neuroscience 12:49-51, 2015

Hydatid cyst may be found in almost any part of the body, but most often in the liver and the lungs. Other organs affected occasionally include the brain, muscle, kidney, heart, pancreas, adrenal, and thyroid gland. Hydatidosis located in the thyroid is an infrequent finding, even in endemic regions. This report documents a rare case with a cystic nodule in the thyroid detected by ultrasonography. The patient was a 30-year-old woman with an euthyroid multinodular goitre. Ultrasonography revealed a cystic nodule, and the ultrasonic appearance of the cyst liquid showed multiple echoes, suggesting that the nodule could be a hydatid cyst. The histopathologic examinations confirmed this to be a primary hydatid cyst of thyroid. During the differential diagnosis of the cystic thyroid lesions, hydatid disease of the thyroid gland should be considered in endemic areas. Chemotherapy is necessary to avoid recurrence. Cerebral tuberculoma of the brain are uncommon presentation of tuberculosis (1%). A 17-year female presented to the emergency with a Glasgow Coma Score of (eye-1, verbal-1 and motor-3), 5/15 bilateral fixed pupils with laborious breathing. The radiological features were suggestive of aintracerebral abscess/ glioma. Intraoperatively the brain was very tense and a large, vascular, mass was present that was excised completely. Her histopathology revealed features of tuberculoma and she was started on anti-tubercular treatment. She is discharged home with regular follow-up for the last 10 months.Cerebral tuberculoma although uncommon should be thought of in developing countries as differential of cystic enhancing lesions of the brain. Keywords: Abscess; central nervous system; glioma; tuberculoma; tuberculosis

Echinococcus granulosus complex is the causative parasite of hydatid disease, endemic to regions with stock breeding and agriculture. We present a rare case of primary pancreatic hydatid disease in a 20-year-old female who had complaints of upper abdominal pain and epigastric fullness. The typical radiological ndings in ultrasound, CT and MRI helps to differentiate this lesion from other cystic lesions in the pancreas. Therefore this lesion should be kept as a differential in endemic areas

Here we describe a 13- year old patient with the presentation of fever and abdominal pain. He had a history of 2 years headache and seizure. In MRI, a primary cerebral hydatid cyst was evident. The diagnosis of hydatid cyst should beconsidered in children with mentioned characters in endemic regions.

In the international literature, increasing numbers of articles and books are published about teaching and learning, with the brain in mind. For a long time, I have been sceptical about this question. However, seeing many unresolved issues in the teaching and learning of mathematics, I slowly started to study the relevant literature and have attempted to implement some ideas in my teaching. In this article, I will report on my experience with a selected mathematical problem in mathematics lessons and group study sessions; I will demonstrate how I modified the problem, based on my experience with the students, and I will reflect on my studies of brain-based mathematics teaching and learning.

Isolated echinococcosis or hydatid cyst of breast is very rare disease especially in non-endemic areas. Even in endemic areas, hydatid cysts detects only for 0.27% of all cases of hydatidosis. Diagnosis of hydatid disease is difficult and it is diagnosed after surgical excision in majority cases. We report a case of 39 year old female with isolated hydatid cyst of the left breast that appeared as a painless breast lump without any specific symptoms.

Echinococcal disease remains a problem within some endemic areas. Echinococcal cysts usually involve the liver and lungs, but are extremely rare in the uterus. In this paper we report the rare case of a 27-year-old unmarried doctor presented with the complains of menorrhagia for 9 months and lump in lower abdomen for 6 months. Ultrasonography and MRI revealed a large multiloculated cystic lesion within the uterine cavity. Serological tests were positive for echinococcus. The patient was operated on; cysts were removed from uterine cavity. Antihelminthics were administered postoperatively and the patient was closely followed up for 9 months, without menorrhagia or recurrence of Echinococcal cyst. Although Echinococcal cysts are extremely rare in the uterus, it can be managed successfully. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bmj.v40i2.18513 Bangladesh Medical Journal 2011 Vol.40(2): 58-60

The hydatid cyst is a worldwide anthropozoonosis, which constitutes a health issue in Northern Africa. It may involve any organ, but it mostly affects the liver. This often asymptomatic disease can lead to multiple complications. Among them, spontaneous fistulization of a hepatic hydatid cyst in the stomach is exceptional even in endemic countries. We report the case of a 38-year-old female with febrile biliary colics due to a hydatid cyst of the liver fistulized in the stomach. The diagnosis was established based upon different clinical, biological and mainly radiological features. She received surgical treatment with satisfactory postoperative outcome.

abstract A rare case of hydatid cyst of the skull is presented. The presenting symptom was an acute increase of the intracranial pressure. The patient was operated upon under emergency conditions with the diagnosis of a cystic lesion of the brain. After a brief review of the literature, the symptomatology of the disease is discussed. It is emphasized that radiological studies, especially plain x-ray films of the skull, are most important in diagnosing the disease.
