This article discusses about the cultivation of foreign language talents, through which it can be appreciated that the emphasis is to be laid on improving their comprehensive qualities. Only in this way can foreign language talents adapt to the needs of the market, integrate into the ranks of technical personnel in the field of engineering, and be warmly welcomed by employers or employing units. Nevertheless, in order to achieve this aim, three factors should be overcome to avoid the hindrance faced by technical colleges and universities from cultivating foreign language talents with comprehensive qualities. This article probes into the three negative factors: first, students are not fluent in their mother tongue; second, foreign language majors lack basic knowledge of science and technology so much so that they are not able to do well in such translation; third, they lack the ability to perform simultaneous interpretation Simultaneous interpreting. In regard to those factors, this article then provides several suggestions as countermeasures to those three negative factors, so as to cultivate talents that can satisfy the needs of the market.

Diversity management is widely valued in higher education today, but closer examination often reveals a lack of action to support the level of diversity that institutions claim to embrace in many of their strategic documents. This paper includes an assessment of diversity management within South Carolina’s technical colleges and an examination of survey results.  It is a companion study to a prior study of diversity in North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU).  The purpose of that research was to review campus-wide documents and structure of schools in the NCICU to determine diversity transparency (Bledsoe/Oatsvall).

In the past five years a number of master’s theses have been conducted at Belgian Technical Colleges and Universities to (re)introduce knowledge of aluminium as a structural material, given that courses offered in Belgium are oriented towards steel and concrete design and no specific course on aluminium exists. The present contribution highlights the different subjects covered in these theses and illustrates the results obtained. Emphasis is placed on the methodology used to design and innovate with aluminium, taking into account the Eurocode rules that apply to the design of specific aluminium structures. For this, appropriate use was made of existing software that allows for the detailed calculation of section reduction and unity checks.
