Musculoskeletal disorders continue to be a leading source of lost workdays across all industries. Common ergonomics assessment tools may include criteria extraneous to the stresses at specific companies or industries. Therefore, the creation of assessment tools, based on scientifically validated methods, with industry- or company-specific stresses may be of benefit. The BMW Group has developed the Safety and Ergonomics Risk Assessment (SERA) tool. This ergonomics assessment method incorporates the most up-to-date scientific methods and international standards, and is used worldwide in all production facilities of the BMW Group. As noted above, a major advantage of SERA over conventional ergonomics tools is the focus on ergonomics stresses common to automobile manufacturing and the consequent exclusion of irrelevant parameters, thereby reducing the time, effort, and training required for workplace assessments. Other advantages include the international uniformity of assessments and a web- and database-implementation allowing for easily comparable international reporting. The implementation of this method at the BMW Group has enabled a greater transparency for ergonomics across all international plants, and more effective and targeted ergonomics interventions. This publication will outline the basic motivation for SERA, highlight the relevant scientific sources and international standards, and general steps of an evaluation.

Abstract For many nuclear power plants worldwide the operation period will be extended to 60 or 80 years in the coming years. As the operation period increases, the importance of knowledge of ageing mechanisms increases. In the framework of LTO there is limited knowledge about ageing and structural integrity of concrete structures. Knowledge about the strength of concrete structures and modelling thereof can be improved for a more complete knowledge base on ageing and degradation mechanism in nuclear facilities. Therefore, effort is required to improve the knowledge of concrete, material models and finite element modelling techniques as well as the assessment method. Recent developments have shown that ageing of civil structures receive more attention internationally (E.g. concrete degradation in bunker building Doel). Traditionally a large part of the research and development is focused on mechanical issues like piping and vessels. In order to increase the knowledge in the field of civil structures, the focus is on investigation of ageing of concrete and determining analysis methods. This paper focuses on the development of a practical assessment method for ageing of civil structures. As a first step information from international publications and other sources on civil structures ageing issues and management thereof, will be gathered. Well known international standards taking care of ageing phenomena based on problem areas and good practices are IGALL and GALL. IGALL and GALL contain information tables based on international experience. This is the starting point of the research in finding an assessment methodology for civil ageing management. It will be shown that IGALL and GALL contain very similar elements. Sorting on the AMPs results in a practical set of datasheets with summarizing information per AMP, including the underlying international experience. The datasheets are of limited size, presenting an helpful overview of the relevant structures or components, materials, environment and mechanisms. A method for civil ageing management is proposed which will be applied and developed in more detail in future research. Further research is necessary to develop a specific assessment methodology for concrete.

The commercialization of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles has elicited attempts to expand hydrogen refueling stations in urban areas; however, safety measures to reduce the risk of jet fires have not been established. The RISKCURVES software was used to evaluate the individual and societal risks of hydrogen refueling stations in urban areas, and the F–N (Frequency–Number of fatalities) curve was used to compare whether the safety measures satisfied international standards. From the results of the analysis, it was found that there is a risk of explosion in the expansion of hydrogen refueling stations in urban areas, and safety measures should be considered. To lower the risk of hydrogen refueling stations, this study applied the passive and active independent protection layers (IPLs) of LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) and confirmed that these measures significantly reduced societal risk as well as individual risk and met international standards. In particular, such measures could effectively reduce the impact of jet fire in dispensers and tube trailers that had a high risk. Measures employing both IPL types were efficient in meeting international standard criteria; however, passive IPLs were found to have a greater risk reduction effect than active IPLs. The combination of RISKCURVES and LOPA is an appropriate risk assessment method that can reduce work time and mitigate risks through protective measures compared to existing risk assessment methods. This method can be applied to risk assessment and risk mitigation not only for hydrogen facilities, but also for hazardous materials with high fire or explosion risk.

Abstract The adoption of risk-based methodologies is considered essential for the successful implementation of an ecosystem approach to fisheries and broader aquatic management. To assist with these initiatives, one of the qualitative risk assessment methods adapted for fisheries management over a decade ago has been reviewed. This method was updated to ensure compliance with the revised international standards for risk management (ISO 31000) and to enable consideration of ecological, economic, social, and governance risks. The review also addressed the difficulties that have been encountered in stakeholder understanding of the underlying concepts and to increase the discipline in its application. The updates include simplifying the number of consequence and likelihood levels, adopting graphical techniques to represent different consequence levels, and discussing how changes in uncertainty can affect risk scores. Adopting an explicit “weight of evidence” approach has also assisted with determining which consequence scenarios are considered plausible and, where relevant, their specific likelihoods. The revised methods therefore incorporate the conceptual elements from a number of qualitative and quantitative approaches increasing their reliability and enabling a more seamless transition along this spectrum as more lines of evidence are collected. It is expected that with continued application of these methods, further refinements will be identified.

The paper analyzes the features of digitalization of the management system in a group of geographically distributed companies united by a common strategy. Consolidation of the activities in several legal entities and their coordinated management is ensured by the process model, which includes local and cross-cutting processes and regulates the interaction of management structures within a distributed object. The authors analyzed the suitability of the process model for digitalization of a distributed control system, taking into account external and internal risks, and justified the choice of international standards for builing a corporate management system. It is presented a structure of the project for implementation of an automated corporate governance system based on the ERP-II concept «Management of internal resources and external relations of an enterprise» using the 1C-ERP product «Enterprise Management» and a risk assessment method.

In order to increase the knowledge in the field of civil structures, this work focusses on investigation of ageing of civil structures and determining an ageing management strategy. Knowledge of the ageing mechanisms of civil structures and especially concrete, will lead to improvement of ageing management and assessment methods of concrete. As a first step international information was gathered on civil structures ageing issues and management thereof (see PVP2019-93029). In addition a very high level assessment methodology was proposed. The goal of the project is to obtain more knowledge on ageing management of civil structures and especially concrete. It will lead to an assessment method for civil ageing management and ageing management programs dealing with the relevant mechanisms at the various locations in a practical manner. The results of this ongoing work are presented in this report. The initial proposed assessment methodology has been tested by application to the HFR research reactor. The resulting list of relevant AMPs has been verified with the outcome for another PWR with a steel containment. With this experience the assessment methodology is improved. In addition each civil SSC in the scope of the Continued Safe Operation program is linked to the relevant AMP(s). The improved, but not finalized assessment method of ageing management for civil structures can be seen in figure 2. The proposed assessment method for ageing of civil structures has been tested, compared and improved. The results indicated that the method can be used to obtain a list of plant specific AMPs. The comparison of the list of relevant AMPs for a steel containment PWR, showed similar results. What is added to the assessment method is the link to the TLAAs for civil structures. The detailing to a level of practical work instructions for the maintenance of the plant has to be made in the near future. In the near future the step will be made from a high level of IGALL AMP to a practical AMP that will deal with the relevant mechanisms at the various locations. Therefore further steps are in studying of relevant degradation mechanisms, relevant AMPs (like AMP305 [9],AMP306 [10]) and applicable literature (e.g.[21]) in combination with the practical knowledge from operation of a reactor. The international developments on ageing management of concrete will be included. It is foreseen that the future report will contain information on concrete degradation mechanisms relevant for nuclear reactors. If findings requires calculations the assessment method will be verified with the finite element modelling techniques.

In this step studying of relevant degradation mechanisms, relevant AMPs (like IAEA AMP305 and AMP306 ) and applicable literature in combination with the practical knowledge from operation of a reactor, has taken place. The international developments on ageing management of concrete will be included. The goal of the project is to obtain more knowledge on ageing management of civil structures and especially concrete. It will lead to an assessment method for civil ageing management and ageing management programs dealing with the relevant mechanisms at the various locations in a practical manner. The results of this ongoing work are presented in this report. For the research reactor all SSCs in scope of the Continued Safe Operation could be linked to the relevant AMP(s) and a resulting set of plant specific AMPs for civil ageing management was obtained. Including the international developments, literature and guidelines, a more general applicable list was created (Table 5 through Table 13). The conclusion is that Figure 2 represents a practical method for obtaining a set of plant specific civil AMPs ready for implementation. For representation in this paper the final outcome is given in as a generic list of actions for a generic reactor (Table 5 through Table 13). In these tables the relevant SSCs, ageing mechanisms and actions are listed. The tables represent an generic list of actions for civil ageing management that might others help develop their ageing management program. Future steps are shifting the focus from the general but practical assessment methodology to finite element modelling techniques for concrete. The assessment criteria for concrete (e.g. in ASME III, ASME XIII or Eurocode) will be investigated and investigation on the modelling of the concrete for ageing are planned.

Zusammenfassung: Das Delir (“akuter Verwirrtheitszustand”) bezeichnet eine psychische Störung, die plötzlich auftritt, durch eine rasche Fluktuation von Bewusstseinslage und Aufmerksamkeitsleistung gekennzeichnet ist und eine organische Ursache hat. Dieses Störungsbild nimmt bei Patienten im höheren Lebensalter deutlich an Häufigkeit zu und verursacht durch verlängerte Krankenhausaufenthalte und ungünstige Krankheitsverläufe erhebliche Kosten im Gesundheitssystem. Daher erscheint eine möglichst frühe Erkennung deliranter Zustandsbilder gerade im Rahmen der Geriatrie von großer Bedeutung. Zu diesem Zweck wurde eine deutsche Version der international weit verbreiteten Confusion Assessment Method entwickelt, die für die Bedürfnisse einer Abteilung für Akutgeriatrie modifiziert wurde. Dargestellt werden die Entwicklung und erste Erfahrungen mit diesem Instrument.

Based on the conception of sensation seeking as a need rather than a temperamental trait ( Hammelstein, 2004 ), we present a new assessment method, the Need Inventory of Sensation Seeking (NISS), which is considered to assess a motivational disposition. Three studies are presented: The first examined the factorial structure and the reliability of the German versions of the NISS; the second study compared the German and the English versions of the NISS; and finally, the validity of the NISS was examined in a nonclinical study and compared to the validity of conventional methods of assessing sensation seeking (Sensation Seeking Scale – Form V; SSS-V). Compared to the SSS-V, the NISS shows better reliability and validity in addition to providing new research possibilities including application in experimental areas.

Abstract. In this article, the authors provide an empirical analysis of the obtrusiveness of and participants' compliance with a relatively new psychological ambulatory assessment method, called the electronically activated recorder or EAR. The EAR is a modified portable audio-recorder that periodically records snippets of ambient sounds from participants' daily environments. In tracking moment-to-moment ambient sounds, the EAR yields an acoustic log of a person's day as it unfolds. As a naturalistic observation sampling method, it provides an observer's account of daily life and is optimized for the assessment of audible aspects of participants' naturally-occurring social behaviors and interactions. Measures of self-reported and behaviorally-assessed EAR obtrusiveness and compliance were analyzed in two samples. After an initial 2-h period of relative obtrusiveness, participants habituated to wearing the EAR and perceived it as fairly unobtrusive both in a short-term (2 days, N = 96) and a longer-term (10-11 days, N = 11) monitoring. Compliance with the method was high both during the short-term and longer-term monitoring. Somewhat reduced compliance was identified over the weekend; this effect appears to be specific to student populations. Important privacy and data confidentiality considerations around the EAR method are discussed.
