This paper seeks to identify, who is using online dating sites in Germany. Theoretically, it is drawn on the debate about the digital divide of society and the findings of sociological mate selection research. Several hypotheses are presented on how individuals using internet dating vary in socioeconomic and demographic characteristics. These considerations are then tested empirically, using the data of the ARD/ZDF-Online Study 2007, a representative national sample of internet behaviour in Germany. Compared to the total population, the results show that online daters are rather male, younger, higher educated and live in households with a higher income. Compared to all internet users, online daters are also rather male, younger and living in single households; however, lower educated individuals are slightly overrepresented. Our work contributes to the research by showing that the propensity of men and women to participate in online dating depends on their individual perspectives at the marriage market. Particularly higher educated women and lower educated men belong to those groups that try to extend their pool of partners by using dating sites. Zusammenfassung Der Aufsatz stellt die Frage, wer in Deutschland die Möglichkeit der internetgestützten Partnersuche nutzt. Ausgehend von der Debatte um digitale Ungleichheiten werden in Auseinandersetzung mit den Erkenntnissen der soziologischen Partnerwahlforschung theoretische Hypothesen formuliert, nach welchen sozialstrukturellen Merkmalen die Teilnahme am Onlinedating variiert. Diese Überlegungen werden auf Basis der Daten der ARD/ZDF-Onlinestudie 2007, einer für Deutschland repräsentativen Erhebung zur Internetnutzung, empirisch geprüft. Verglichen mit der Gesamtbevölkerung zeigt sich, dass die Onlinedater eher männlich, jünger und höher gebildet sind, sowie tendenziell in Haushalten mit höherem Einkommen leben. Verglichen mit den Internetnutzern sind die Onlinedater wiederum eher männlich, jünger und alleinwohnend; allerdings sind hier niedriger gebildete Personen leicht überrepräsentiert. In Erweiterung zu früheren Untersuchungen zeigen unsere Ergebnisse, dass die Neigung von Männern und Frauen, am Onlinedating teilzunehmen, von ihren jeweiligen Perspektiven am Heiratsmarkt abhängig ist. Vor allem höher gebildete Frauen und niedrig gebildete Männer gehören dabei zu den Gruppen, die durch die Nutzung von Online-Kontaktbörsen ihre Partnersuche ausweiten.

Abstract Previous research on mate selection has primarily focused on long-term relationships, i.e. spouse selection. Literature suggests that factors and traits playing a significant role in choosing a short-term partner have been mostly overlooked in mate-selection research. The present study, with a sample of 115 Hispanic-American females attending a public university, attempts to determine if there are significant differences in reported preferences when looking for short-term partners versus when looking for a long-term partner. The subjects individually listed their preferences for short-term partners from a list of traits generated by previous research. The participants were then put into groups consisting of five females in each group. Group members discuss their preferences among themselves and generate a list of desirable traits in a long-term partner. This paper reports the findings of the survey in two specific categories. It separates the desired traits for short-term and long-term partners, and it presents the differences in preferences based on relational status, i.e., single or in a relationship.

The report on the international conference “Second Fortunatov Readings in Karelia”, held at Petrozavodsk State University on June 3–4, 2021, is presented. It is noted that the name of F. F. Fortunatov is a significant phenomenon in the history of world linguistics for understanding the development of scientific theory and methodology in linguistics. The scientist laid the foundations of modern grammatical theory, assessed controversial processes in the field of the history and accentology of Slavic and Baltic languages, and contributed to the formation of new linguistic trends. The Fortunatov School at the end of the 19th century went beyond the geographical borders of Russia and became known abroad as one of the most advanced academic schools. A brief description of the program and the reports presented, covering the problems of historical and diachronic linguistics in the context of comparative and typological linguistics, language teaching methods, syntax, dialectology, communication theory, culture of language and poetics, is given. Special attention is paid to the relevance in modern linguistics of F. F. Fortunatov’s ideas. Parallels are drawn with related humanities disciplines.

This research focuses on normative juridical aspects related to the tendency of religious selection in children as a result of Interfaith Marriage (PBA). With the approach of the sociology of religion and the psychology of child development, this study looks at how the pattern of children’s education influences the tendency of the religion child's selection. Research informants are four PBA pairs taken randomly in the International Conference on Religion and Peace (ICRP) organization. The research findings explain that children's religious preferences follow the path and parenting patterns of their parents who have different religions. In this study there were at least three parenting practices applied by parents of interfaith marriages. First, parents of married couples of different religions teach two religious teachings at once. Secondly, one of the couples from interfaith marriages took over the child's religious education so that the children followed their religion. Third, an agreement to make one child join each parent's religion. The pattern of nurture and religious environment that is applied by interfaith married couples to their children, related to religion, is very influential in the development of children's religious understanding. Religious education that is tolerant and understands religious plurality is a basic basis so that children are not trapped in psychological conflicts blaming one of their parents’ religions. This research is expected to contribute to the development of family law, particularly law on protecting children.Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada aspek yuridis normatif terkait dengan kecenderungan pemilihan agama pada anak hasil Pernikahan Beda Agama (PBA). Dengan pendekatan sosiologi agama dan psikologi perkembangan anak, penelitian ini melihat bagaimana pola pendidikan anak yang berpengaruh terhadap kecenderungan pemilihan agama anak tersebut. Informan penelitian adalah  empat  pasangan PBA dalam lingkungan organisasi International Conference on Religion and Peace (ICRP) yang dipilih secara random. Temuan penelitian menjelaskan bahwa preferensi agama anak mengikuti alur dan pola pengasuhan kedua orang tua mereka yang berbeda agama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa  ada tiga pola asuh yang diterapkan oleh orang tua pernikahan beda agama. Pertama, orang tua dari pasangan nikah beda agama mengajarkan dua ajaran agama sekaligus. Kedua, salah seorang pasangan dari pernikahan beda agama mengambil alih pendidikan agama anak agar anak-anak mengikuti agamanya. Ketiga,  kesepakatan untuk menjadikan salah satu anak ikut agama masing-masing orang tua. Pola pengasuhan dan lingkungan keagamaan  yang diterapkan oleh pasangan nikah beda agama kepada anak-anak mereka, terkait dengan agama, sangat berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan pemahaman agama anak-anak. Pendidikan agama yang toleran dan memahami pluralitas agama menjadi basis dasar agar anak-anak tidak terjebak dalam konflik psikologis menyalahkan salah satu agama orang tuanya. Penelitian ini diharapkan memberikan sumbangsih bagi pengembangan hukum keluarga, khususnya hukum perlindungan terhadap anak.
