Mobile Experience in Teaching Chinese Pinyin

In New Zealand, for non-Chinese speaker learners aged 5-12, the Chinese courses provided by the Confucius Institute are usually based on the premise of increasing interest, with the main teaching goal of improving students' oral communication skills and increasing their understanding of Chinese and Asian culture. Therefore, it is an effective way to improve the quality of Chinese teaching by fully considering the students' cultural background and combining modern teaching techniques with traditional teaching content. Guided by N.S. Prabhu's task-based language teaching methods, this chapter uses a case study method to explore how to use the mobile applications and other multimedia technologies to improve the teaching effect of Chinese Pinyin in a New Zealand elementary school.

Task-based language teaching methods integrated with local wisdom: The impact on students' writing skills

The researcher conducts the study to increase students’ writing skills through TBLT (Task-Based Language Teaching). The subject of this research consists of 32 students in the VIII A class. The objectives of this research are categorized into 2; (1) to find out whether the implementation of the Task-Based Learning method can improve the students’ writing skills, and (2) to find out what kind of writing aspects improve significantly after using Task-Based Learning method. Research design uses pre-test and post-test. Therefore, both groups are given a pre-test, conduct a treatment, then pass a post-test. This research is conducted at eighth grade in 2019/2020 for one month, from August to September 2020. This research shows that after being taught task-based language teaching, students' writing skills, especially in narrative text, improved substantially. It can be analyzed on post-test performance; no one has reached the excellent, good, and fair categories (0 percent). 37.5 percent of students have reached the appropriate category. 65.2 percent of students had failed in the category unless they had handled it for seven meetings. This result is slightly different from the pre-test result. However, only 25 percent of students fall into the decent category, and 75 percent fail. There are no students who are in weak, moderate, decent, and outstanding categories.

Second Fortunatov Readings in Karelia

The report on the international conference “Second Fortunatov Readings in Karelia”, held at Petrozavodsk State University on June 3–4, 2021, is presented. It is noted that the name of F. F. Fortunatov is a significant phenomenon in the history of world linguistics for understanding the development of scientific theory and methodology in linguistics. The scientist laid the foundations of modern grammatical theory, assessed controversial processes in the field of the history and accentology of Slavic and Baltic languages, and contributed to the formation of new linguistic trends. The Fortunatov School at the end of the 19th century went beyond the geographical borders of Russia and became known abroad as one of the most advanced academic schools. A brief description of the program and the reports presented, covering the problems of historical and diachronic linguistics in the context of comparative and typological linguistics, language teaching methods, syntax, dialectology, communication theory, culture of language and poetics, is given. Special attention is paid to the relevance in modern linguistics of F. F. Fortunatov’s ideas. Parallels are drawn with related humanities disciplines.

Factors Affecting the Management of Innovative English Language Teaching Methods at People’s Police Universities

Based on the theoretical basis of the factors affecting the management of innovative English teaching methods, the paper focuses on researching and investigating the current situation of factors affecting the management of innovative English teaching at People’s Police Universities to assess the importance and influence on management. The results of a survey with 49 leaders and 119 English language teachers at at People’s Police Universities showed the degree of influence factors ranging from quite to very influential and the importance of these factors all reach 100% from important or more across the sample. This result can be useful sources for administrators and lecturers to pay attention and propose measures to manage effectively in the innovative English teaching methods at People’s Police Universities.

WAYS OF MEMORY PROCESSES IMPROVEMENT DURING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES IN INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Subject under consideration in the article is memory as entire, complex and uninterrupted process and lecturer’s influence on character of students’ memory processes. Efficient techniques for improving memory processes of various scientists and the features of modern technologies for English vocabulary memorizing have been studied; non-traditional ways of words memorizing in the English language teaching methods, shown good results in practice have been proposed. The author has analyzed the inclusion of psychology for studying English. The psychological aspects of efficiency increasing of new words memorizing in English classes have been shown. It has been proposed that teachers take into account the individual differences of students in perception and memorization of new English vocabulary. The use of psychological methods of mnemonics and pictograms in English classes has been also considered. Recommendations concerning positive consequences of lecturer’s impact on character of students’ memory processes have been given in the article.
