It is noted that the effective application of programmable logic controllers in automated control systems in launching complexes is closely linked to the training of specialists, capable to carry out the development of application software. In connection with complexity of debugging of the developed programs on real process equipment an analysis of the possible variants of simulation of control processes is performed and effectiveness of virtualization of control objects on computers is noted. The developed applications of Real Games-company to create virtual control objects using 3D-graphics for training to usage of programmable logic controllers in industrial control systems are considered. The perspectives for the application software of Real Games-company in the training of specialists for automation systems of technological equipment in launching complexes are evaluated.

Nowadays, most control systems are based on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and on commercial programs, but the use of conventional PCs is becoming an increasing by popularity and competitive alternative. After an introduction that underlines the positive and negative aspects of both solutions, EtherCAT, a hard real-time industrial Ethernet protocol that allows the use of both conventional PCs and open-source software, is analyzed. Two different EtherCAT master implementations are compared, which are based on a commercial and on a open-source software, respectively. In order to highlight differences and provide a short reference, a simple example was implemented in the two environments.

NOVA Corporation of Alberta has developed a programmable logic controller based gas turbine fuel control system for natural gas compressor set applications. The system carries out all necessary fuel control functions and was integrated into the existing programmable logic controller used for sequencing and shutdown. The system has been successfully implemented on several different aero derivative gas turbines to date. This paper discusses the development of the system, its performance and advantages over standalone hardware-based fuel control systems typically used in the application.

The paper presents a theory of body collision with pit corner. The theory can be successfully applied in approaching tasks coping with the orientation of details in technological processes and control systems, the motion of elements in mechanisms having a gap, collisions in motion of different sport objects, the analysis of car accidents etc. The applied theory deals with car motion after collision with a specific obstacle i.e. pit corner. The study is based on linear and angular momentum theorems and two restitution coefficients of normal impulse from both sides of the obstacle. The obtained results can be used for assessing road accidents in case of car collision with one or more obstacles. The object of contact may involve hitting a plane foundation, the ditch and edging of a highway or a rock in the field.

Chapter 8 considers design principles of Overall Instrumentation and Control (OI&C) systems implemented at Ukrainian NPPs. The first section provides brief information on controlled objects—power units with reactors WWER, which are operated at Ukrainian NPPs. The main principles and features for modernization of OI&C systems and their components in NPPs in Ukraine that were generated in 2000-2011 are further provided. The third section is dedicated to the architecture of OI&C systems that control technological processes on these power units. After that, the central part of this architecture, a group of the most closely connected individual Instrumentation and Control (further, I&C) systems, for which the general term “reactor control and protection system” is used in Ukraine and Russia, is considered in detail. The purpose, composition, and structure of a modernized reactor control and protection system that are implemented at Ukrainian NPPs with WWER reactors are provided.
