Assessment of humidity regime of enclosing structures with a ball of insulation on the example of a training housing building in NULES of Ukraine

When assessing the thermal condition of the building and the parameters of the microclimate of the premises, the main factors influencing its thermal inertia were identified and taken into account. An assessment of the influence of the resistance of enclosing structures on the efficiency of the heating system, taking into account the influence of external and internal climatic parameters in the dynamic mode. It is shown that the time factor and depth of regulation, as well as the outdoor air temperature are important factors. Researches are carried out and the expediency of introduction of a duty mode of heating of buildings of HIGH SCHOOLS is estimated. The given algorithm of control of process of heat release (especially in the presence of a point of "breaking" - average (them) on the schedule) in addition increases accuracy of the decisions of the specified problems and reduces a temperature deviation by 4 ÷ 6 ° C in comparison with usual ("linear") dependence that allows to correct more precisely release of the heat carrier in system of heating of a structure at introduction of a standby mode. It was found that it took about 6.5 hours to achieve normalized air temperature and space heating in the forced (after a long stay on duty). It is shown that the heat consumption of the system in such conditions of its operation compared to the nominal mode increased by 25% (taking into account the limit value of the specific allowance from table H1 DBN B.2.5-67: 2013 "Heating, ventilation and air conditioning"), but for the entire period the action of the standby mode savings amounted to about 6-8% of energy consumed. Taking into account the design of the outer walls of the object of study, the temperature graph of the heating system was adjusted taking into account the value of the internal heat capacity of the building when implementing on-duty heating, which, according to preliminary estimates, will: improve comfort in the room; to reduce heating costs of the educational and administrative building of NULES of Ukraine by 10-12% for the heating period. One essential utilization of phase change materials as energy storage materials is energy saving and temperature control in air conditioning and indirect solar air drying systems. This study presents an experimental investigation evaluating the characteristics and energy savings of multiple phase change materials subjected to internal flow in an air heating system during charging and discharging cycles. The experimental tests were conducted using a test rig consisting of two main parts, an air supply duct and a room model equipped with phase change materials (PCMs) placed in rectangular aluminum panels. Analysis of the results was based on three test cases: PCM1 (Paraffin wax) placed in the air duct was used alone in the first case; PCM2 (RT–42) placed in the room model was used alone in the second case; and in the third case, the two PCMs (PCM1 and PCM2) were used at the same time. The results revealed a significant improvement in the energy savings and room model temperature control for the air heating system incorporated with multiple PCMs compared with that of a single PCM. Complete melting during the charging cycle occurred at temperatures in the range of 57–60 °C for PCM1 and 38–43 °C for PCM2, respectively, thereby validating the reported PCMs’ melting–solidification results. Multiple PCMs maintained the room air temperature at the desired range of 35–45.2 °C in the air heating applications by minimizing the air temperature fluctuations. The augmentation in discharging time and improvement in the room model temperature using multiple PCMs were about 28.4% higher than those without the use of PCMs. The total energy saving using two PCMs was higher by about 29.5% and 46.7% compared with the use of PCM1 and PCM2, respectively. It can be concluded that multiple PCMs have revealed higher energy savings and thermal stability for the air heating system considered in the current study.

Monitoring and prediction of the climatic phenomenon are of keen interest in recent years because it has great influence in the lives of people and their environments. This paper is aimed at reporting the variation of daily and monthly solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity (RH), and dew point over the year of 2013 based on the data obtained from the weather station situated in Damak, Nepal. The result shows that on a clear day, the variation of solar radiation and RH follows the Gaussian function in which the first one has an upward trend and the second one has a downward trend. However, the change in air temperature satisfies the sine function. The dew point temperature shows somewhat complex behavior. Monthly variation of solar radiation, air temperature, and dew point shows a similar pattern, lower at winter and higher in summer. Maximum solar radiation (331 Wm-2) was observed in May and minimum (170 Wm-2) in December. Air temperature and dew point had the highest value from June to September nearly at 29°C and 25°C, respectively. The lowest value of the relative humidity (55.4%) in April indicates the driest month of the year. Dew point was also calculated from the actual readings of air temperature and relative humidity using the online calculator, and the calculated value showed the exact linear relationship with the observed value. The diurnal and nocturnal temperature of each month showed that temperature difference was relatively lower (less than 10°C) at summer rather than in winter.

This paper presents potential approaches that increase the energy efficiency of an in-line induction heating system for forging of an automotive crankshaft. Both heat loss reduction and optimization of process parameters are proposed scientifically in order to minimize the energy consumption and the temperature deviation in the workpiece. We applied the numerical multiobjective optimization method in conjunction with the design of experiment (DOE), mathematical approximation with metamodel, nondominated sorting genetic algorithm (GA), and engineering data mining. The results show that using the insulating covers reduces heat by an amount equivalent to 9% of the energy stored in the heated workpiece, and approximately 5.8% of the energy can be saved by process parameter optimization.

Condensation is a major issue in the safe operation of utility tunnels. To address the condensation problem, the indoor air temperature, relative humidity (RH) and surface temperature in an urban utility tunnel in Jining were continuously measured, and the condensation conditions were surveyed and analysed. The results indicated that under natural ventilation conditions, the air temperature in the comprehensive cabin varied from 23.4°C to 24.5°C, the RH fluctuated between 86.4% and 95.3%, and the corresponding air dew point temperature (DPT) remained in the range of 22.2°C–22.9°C. The surface temperature of the water supply pipeline ranged from 17.8°C to 18.5°C, which was far lower than the DPT in the tunnel, resulting in serious condensation. A water supply pipeline with an anti-condensation design was developed based on environmental test data. A 25-mm-thick rubber plastic sponge insulation layer was used to thermally insulate the water supply pipeline, preventing further dew condensation. Furthermore, mechanical ventilation had little effect on reducing the RH in the tunnel and may actually cause dew condensation; therefore, a ventilation control mode was proposed in this study. These results are expected to provide basic data for further research and reference for the safe management of utility tunnels.

Road and highway maintenance is vital for the safety of citizens and for enabling emergency and security services to perform their essential functions. Accumulation of snow and (or) ice on the pavement surface during the wintertime substantially increases the risk of road crashes and can have negative impact on the economy of the region. Recently, road maintenance engineers have used pavement surface temperature as a guide to the application of deicers. Stations for road weather information systems (RWIS) have been installed across Europe and North America to collect data that can be used to predict weather conditions such as air temperature. Modelling pavement surface temperature as a function of such weather conditions (air temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and wind speed) can provide an additional component that is essential for winter maintenance operations. This paper uses data collected by RWIS stations at the City of Ottawa to device a procedure that maximizes the use of a data batch containing complete, partially complete, and unusable data and to study the relationship between the pavement surface temperature and weather variables. Statistical models were developed, where stepwise regression was first applied to eliminate those variables whose estimated coefficients are not statistically significant. The remaining variables were further examined according to their contribution to the criterion of best fit and their physical relationships to each other to eliminate multicollinearities. The models were further corrected for the autocorrelation in their error structures. The final version of the developed models may then be used as a part of the decision-making process for winter maintenance operations.Key words: winter maintenance, pavement temperature, statistical modelling, RWIS.

AbstractReduced amounts of snow in the eight winters from 1986-87 to 1993-94 at Nagaoka, Japan, seem to be due to a winter air-temprature rise. The winter air temprature has shown cyclic varition gradual increase in the past 100years. The linear rate of the temperature rise in the past century was calculated as 1.35°C per 100 years. Both the maximum Snow depth and winter precipitation showed an inversely positive correlation with winter mean air temperature, The square of the statistical correlation coefficient r2was calculated as 0.321 and 0.107. respectively. Statistically smoothed curves or the maximum snow depth and winter precipitation showed maximum values in 1940, Fluctuations in deviation of the maximum Snow depth showed smaller values than in precipitation. The minimum winter mean air temperature obtained from a 10 year moving average curve was found in 1942, and the deviation fom the climatic mean changed from negative to positive in 1949. The change in sign or the temperature deviation and the increase of the deviation may be attributable to global warming.
