The article reports the results of the analysis of the field prospecting activities of five exploratory wells at the Karmalinovskoye gas condensate field. We have found that the eastern part of the licensed area is characterized by the lack of fructuring in Paleozoic deposits, and the development of the productive deposit extends in the north-west direction. Hydraulic fracturing made it possible to get a stable gas and gas condensate flow rate in well № 4. This volume exceeds 3,8 times as large than flow rate in wells № 1 and № 2, which were tested after drilling without conducting hydraulic fracturing.

Want more production from a shale well? Consider lining up the perforations. A handful of speakers at the recent SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference talked about improved fracturing results with oriented perforating—shooting the holes at the same place in the casing, often the top. This breaks from designs that arranged the holes in a helical pattern with each charge angled 60° from the previous one. “We did see indications we are getting better production from oriented perforating,” said Blake Horton, senior completions engineer for Ovintiv (SPE 204177). Production gains were also reported by ConocoPhillips which compared production from similar wells with and without oriented perforating. The analysis was designed to filter out differences in the geology, drilling, and completions. It concluded the value of the added production far exceeded the $20,000-per-well cost of installing the assembly, including a weight bar to tilt the perforating guns into position. “That’s less than the undiscounted value of 400 barrels of oil. An internal study indicated that ConocoPhillips improved estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) by a minimum of 5% when using high-side-oriented perforating,” said Dave Cramer, senior engineering fellow at ConocoPhillips and an early advocate for the method. “For an initial choked flow rate of 1,000 B/D, the payout on investment is 10 days or less,” he said. Ovintiv declined to provide a number, but Horton said ConocoPhillips’ estimate is within Ovintiv’s range based on similar comparisons of wells with and without oriented perforating. That number is at the low end of the estimates offered in discussions about oriented perforating performance at the conference. Higher estimates are questioned by those who doubt the test results can be sustained when the method is scaled up. What was certain is the number of users is rising and includes names such as Shell and Chevron. “We found that oriented perforating definitely helps to treat all the clusters,” said Jon Snyder, a staff completion engineer for ConocoPhillips who presented the paper, adding, “by oriented perforating we mean that when we are perforating, we aim for the high side of the wellbore” (SPE 204203). When Horton polled the audience at a recent talk, more than half of the respondents said they were using gun systems designed to orient the perforating charges at a target angle. “A year from now, few people will not be doing oriented perforating; the advantages of it are clear,” Cramer said. He has been promoting the idea within the company for years with mixed acceptance.

Abstract Hydraulic fracturing is a long-established method of stimulating a well to improve the inflow or outflow potential. Hydraulic fracturing is the most successful stimulation method used by the oil and gas industry, and is also used for water injection and production wells around the world, even for drinking-water wells. Hydraulic fracturing creates a crack in the earth that is then filled with a highly conductive material (proppant). This fracture has a large inflow area compared to an unstimulated wellbore and provides a high-permeability path for the fluid to flow in or out of the reservoir. Hydraulic fracturing has a long history of being used in hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal applications since the 1980s (Murphy & Fehler, 1986). In those often very tight reservoirs, the aim is to create fracture networks that generate the reservoir flow capacity. In high-permeability formations, fracturing can potentially double the productivity of a well. In low-permeability formations, well performance can be increased by a factor of 5–10 in most cases. In this paper, we focus on two different scenarios of geothermal stimulation. The first is for permeable, porous formations where the heat exchange happens through the perfect contact between the fluid and the porous reservoir. Stimulation may then be necessary to create a small fracture if the pressure drop near the well is too large due to insufficient reservoir permeability. The other scenario is a formation at great depth, where the formation permeability is so extremely small that very long propped fractures would be needed to obtain sufficient flow or even where the porous system does not provide sufficient heat exchange but the heat exchange has to be facilitated by an artificial or stimulated fracture network: a so-called Enhanced Geothermal System. For porous, permeable formations we will present examples of fracture treatments that can increase the flow rate so that the economics of the project is improved. In some formations, stimulation is then a contingency in case of poorer than expected reservoir quality. A worst-case well with a large skin value of 20 can perform with stimulation like a base-case unstimulated well. In other formations, stimulation will be integral to well design in order to optimise the project performance. For those cases the Coefficient of Performance can be improved from 7 to 25 with the aid of stimulation. In Ultra-Deep Geothermal (UDG) recovery, the targets are reservoirs below 4000 m, because industrial heat demand requires a minimum temperature of 120°C up to 250°C. For an economic business case, the rate over a period of 15 to 25 years should be from 150 to 450 m3 h−1, depending on the boundary conditions. Shallower reservoirs in the Netherlands often show very high permeability, but at great depth the target layers could have very low permeability (Veldkamp et al., 2018). Several stimulation methods can be used, of which hydraulic fracture stimulation with water (proppantless) is the primary candidate. Other stimulation methods are propped fracturing in sandstone, acid fracturing in carbonates and thermal stimulation. For a geological play that is attractive for UDG in the Netherlands, the most likely stimulation method is with water fracturing, because propped fracturing would require a huge amount of proppant that is very costly. Based on analogues and conceptual designs, the expected flow rate is estimated under selected boundary conditions.

The article discusses the problems of effective application of acid hydraulic fracturing (HF) technologies in carbonate reservoirs. The optimal technology of acid fracturing has been substantiated, adapted to the geological and production conditions of the development of productive deposits and mining equipment of a gas condensate field of the sea shelf. The results of the design and calculation of the predicted flow rate for specific geological and production conditions of candidate wells are presented.

The research studies the effect of change of the Tigris  River's surface stage on groundwater movement by building a three-dimension model  using GMS model for a catchment area in Baghdad city. The model is built and calibrated by using the information of 16 wells for the year 2015 . Three scenarios of river elevation stage are used when the stage  elevation is maximum, average and minimum. The movement of groundwater according to the results was from the north-west to the Tigris River location. Also, the results show the velocity of groundwater in case of the minimum water surface level stage is greater than the other cases because of the high hydraulic gradient. The velocity of groundwater in layer one for all cases is very slow because of the low permeability.

The paper presents a method for calculating the gas stream flow rate during well tests of gas and gas condensate wells using a diaphragm gauge of critical flow. The above method compensates the disadvantages of the described in the scientific and technical literature gas stream flow rate calculation methods during its flow through the diaphragm in the critical regime. For the proposed method are presented the testing results on gas and gas condensate wells of the north of the Tyumen region.

Oreochromis mossambicus is currently receiving much attention as a candidater species for aquaculture programs within Southern Africa. This has stimulated interest in its breeding cycle as well as the morphological characteristics of the gonads. Limited information is available on SEM and TEM observations of the male gonads. It is known that the testis of O. mossambicus is a paired, intra-abdominal structure of the lobular type, although further details of its characteristics are not known. Current investigations have shown that spermatids reach full maturity some two months after the female becomes gravid. Throughout the year, the testes contain spermatids at various stages of development although spermiogenesis appears to be maximal during November when spawning occurs. This paper describes the morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of the testes and spermatids.Specimens of this fish were collected at Syferkuil Dam, 8 km north- west of the University of the North over a twelve month period, sacrificed and the testes excised.
