This article discusses the role of practices and people’s participation in practices in conceptual accounts of organizing, learning, and organizational learning. Specifically, the discussion takes its point of departure in Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger’s account of learning as legitimate peripheral participation in practices, and Theodore Schatzki’s practice theory account of organizing and organizations. Both accounts center on the role of practices as people come to know, and as changes occur in social activity and organizational settings. However, the two accounts are based on different ontologies. Borrowing the terminology of John Dewey and Arthur Bentley, Lave and Wenger instantiate a substantivist, and ultimately individualist, ontology, whereas Schatzki’s event ontology is relational. It is argued that both ontologies have merits of their own, but the article seeks to integrate the two approaches by utilizing Ole Dreier’s notion of the life trajectories of persons across social practices. In this perspective, organizational learning shows when people’s life trajectories are affected by the bundles of social practices they engage with, and when the bundles of social practices are transformed by the way people enact the practices.

ABSTRACT: In this article, we intend to discuss education as an ontological phenomenon. The discussion is based on an investigation carried out on the economic actions and educational processes that they engendered in the historical context of the life trajectories of farmers in the Santa Helena Settlement in São Carlos, a municipality in the interior of the state of São Paulo. In order to do so, we base the analytical axis of our perspective on knowledge production from the categories “social practices” and “educational processes”, considering that the social practices lived daily by human beings constitute an essentially inter-subjective praxis, generating educational processes that are projected in time-space from problematic gnosiological situations from social reality, which is kept in constant transformation. Through phenomenology, we start with an analysis of events described by farmers during interviews conducted during fieldwork, in order to contemplate the integrality between a possible gnosiology of economic relations and the various educational elements related to it, which have been present in the midst of their life trajectories and which, in our understanding, integrate a whole embodied in their ways of being and acting in the present. Keywords: Educational Processes; Economic Action; Settlements of Agrarian Reform; Peasant Education.

The article demonstrates how images of the Mississippi River presented in European Mississippi. An Anthropocene River project, form knowledge about this region in relation to global challenges of the climate crisis. In the text, I examine visualizations of the river created by the Indigenous artist Andrea Carlson, whose works relate to decolonial methodologies and restore places, communities, beliefs and philosophies eradicated in colonialist practices. Visuality in Carlson’s work isn’t frozen in a place and time, but constitutes a type of social practice in which knowledge is produced. In analysing her works, I take into account their processuality: that, which took place before their creation, what they refer to, what they reveal, and what the process of their creation.

(English): The Anglophilia which marks much of French Enlightenment prose fiction also points to a transformation of the representation of sociability. Through pseudo-translation and the use of the ‘English story’, Marie-Jeanne Riccoboni gives a critical account of the rules and the codes that regulate French social order in the second half of the eighteenth century. The depiction of a free and tolerant society in the novels Lettres de Fanni Butlerd (1757) and Lettres de mylord Rivers (1777) attests to a questioning of French sociability and of women's place and roles. How are social practices redefined and what ideological meanings are associated to them in Mme Riccoboni's writings and use of pseudo-translation?
