Background: Dementia disease is usually identified among older patients, but it is not a part of the normal aging process. The number of Dementia's patients in the Arab countries is increasing due to increased longevity and improvement in the health care system. This study aimed to assess the effect of an educational program on Formal Caregivers Burden in Elderly Homes. Methodology: This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test-post-test design. The study was conducted in three elderly nursing private homes in Amman, Jordan using purposive sampling of 50 formal caregivers. Results: Dementia patient’s caregivers’ burden was decreased after program implementation, with statistically significant between pre- post, and three months after program implementation (p<.001). Findings demonstrated that the formal Dementia caregiver’s education program can effectively decrease burden among caregivers. Recommendation: Conducting continuing education program for Dementia patient’s caregivers in the nursing homes to promote their practices and decrease their burden.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), a common treatment for prostate cancer, is associated with physical, psychological, and sexual side effects that reduce patients’ quality of life. The authors designed an educational program to prepare patients for managing these side effects. This paper describes an implementation model for national dissemination of the program, testing its feasibility and acceptability at the institutional and patient level. Postprogram changes in patients’ self-efficacy to manage side effects and side effect bother are also explored. Patients on or anticipating ADT enrolled in the educational program. Pre and post intervention questionnaires measured patient satisfaction with the program, side effect bother, and self-efficacy to manage ADT side effects. The ADT Educational Program was deemed feasible and acceptable. Five of six targeted sites successfully launched the program with sufficient patient enrolment. Patient attendees were highly satisfied. Self-efficacy, bother, and use of management strategies were interrelated. Lower bother was associated with increased self-efficacy and more use of management strategies, and increased bother was associated with lower self-efficacy and less use of management strategies. Based on pre–post scores, improvements in patients’ self-efficacy to manage ADT side effects were also observed. Results demonstrate that this brief educational program is feasible and acceptable to patients and cancer care institutions. The program appears to promote self-efficacy and the uptake of ADT management strategies for ADT side effects. The results of this study support the program implementation and suggest that improvements in self-efficacy after program participation may help patients adapt to ADT side effects.

Context: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a surgical procedure in which the damaged parts of the patient's kneecap, thighbone, and shinbone are replaced with artificial parts. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of an educational program on nurses' knowledge, practices, and patients' outcomes post total knee arthroplasty. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was utilized in the orthopedic department and outpatient orthopedic clinic affiliated to Benha University Hospital from the beginning of July 2020 to the end of June 2021. A convenience sample of all available nurses (50) working in the orthopedic department. A purposive sample of 64 adult patients from both genders was divided into (32) control and (32) study groups. Three tools were used: The nurses' knowledge assessment questionnaire, nurses' practice observational checklist, and patient’ outcomes assessment sheet. Results: The present study revealed that 58% of nurses age was from 40 to less than 60 years old, 92% were females, 66% had secondary nursing education, 28 % of studied nurses had total satisfactory knowledge pre-program implementation, which reached 80%, 58 %, respectively immediately after and in follow up of program implementation. 22% of studied nurses had a competent level of practice scores pre-program implementation, which improved to 82%, 74 %, respectively, immediately after and in follow up of program implementation. There were highly statistically significant differences between study and control group patients regarding the frequency of most of the general and local complication and lower extremity function scale after two weeks and one month post-surgery at p-value<0.00. Conclusion: Implementing the educational program had statistically significantly improved the knowledge and practices of the studied nurses that could reflect positively on patient condition. The study recommended a continuous educational program for all nurses working in the orthopedic departments. Further study to search the correlation between the nurses' performance and the patient outcomes is recommended.
