Abstract. People apply what they learn from experience not only to the experienced stimuli, but also to novel stimuli. But what determines how widely people generalize what they have learned? Using a predictive learning paradigm, we examined the hypothesis that a low (vs. high) probability of an outcome following a predicting stimulus would widen generalization. In three experiments, participants learned which stimulus predicted an outcome (S+) and which stimulus did not (S−) and then indicated how much they expected the outcome after each of eight novel stimuli ranging in perceptual similarity to S+ and S−. The stimuli were rings of different sizes and the outcome was a picture of a lightning bolt. As hypothesized, a lower probability of the outcome widened generalization. That is, novel stimuli that were similar to S+ (but not to S−) produced expectations for the outcome that were as high as those associated with S+.

<b>Objective:</b> To assess patient characteristics and treatment factors associated with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the probability of A1C goal attainment. <p><b>Research Design and Methods</b>: Retrospective cohort study using the electronic health record at Cleveland Clinic. Patients with uncontrolled T2D (A1C>9%) were identified on the index date of 12/31/2016 (n=6,973), grouped by attainment (n=1,653 [24.7%) or non-attainment (n=5,320 [76.3%]) of A1C<8% by 12/31/2017, and subgroups compared on a number of demographic and clinical variables. Based on these variables, a nomogram was created for predicting probability of A1C goal attainment. </p> <p><b>Results:</b> For the entire population, median age at index date was 57.7 years (53.3% male), and the majority were white (67.2%). Median A1C was 10.2%. Obesity (50.6%), cardiovascular disease (46.9%) and psychiatric disease (61.1%) were the most common comorbidities. Metformin (62.7%) and sulfonylureas (38.7%) were the most common anti-diabetes medications. Only 1,653 (24%) patients achieved an A1C <8%. Predictors of increased probability of A1C goal attainment were older age, white/non-Hispanic race/ethnicity, Medicare health insurance, lower baseline A1C, higher frequency of endocrinology/primary care visits, DPP-4i use, thiazolidinedione use, metformin use, GLP-1RA use, and fewer classes of anti-diabetes drugs. Factors associated with lower probability included insulin use and longer time in the T2D database (both presumed as likely surrogates for duration of T2D). </p> <p><b>Conclusions:</b> A minority of patients with an A1C>9% achieved an A1C<8% at one year. While most identified predictive factors are non-modifiable by the clinician, pursuit of frequent patient engagement and tailored drug regimens may help improve A1C goal attainment. </p>

Frankfurt defined persuasive communication that has no regard for truth, knowledge, or evidence as bullshit. Although there has been a lot of psychological research on pseudo-profound bullshit, no study examined this type of communication in politics. In the present research, we operationalize political bullshit receptivity as endorsing vague political statements, slogans, and political bullshit programs. We investigated the relationship of these three measures with pseudo-profound bullshit, ideology (political ideology, support for neoliberalism), populism, and voting behavior. Three pre-registered studies in different cultural settings (the United States, Serbia, The Netherlands; total N = 534) yielded medium to high intercorrelations between political bullshit measures and pseudo-profound bullshit, and good construct validity (hypothesized one-factor solution). A Bayesian meta-analysis showed that all political bullshit measures positively correlated with support for the free market, while only some positively correlated with social (political statements and programs) and economic conservatism (programs), and populism (programs). In the U.S., higher receptivity to political bullshit was associated with a higher probability that one voted for Trump (vs Clinton) in the past and higher intentions to vote for Trump (vs Biden and Sanders). In the Netherlands, higher receptivity to political bullshit predicted the intention to vote for the conservative-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. Exploratory analyses on merged datasets showed that higher receptivity to political bullshit was associated with a higher probability to vote for right-wing candidates/parties and lower probability for the left-wing ones. Overall, political bullshit endorsement showed good validity, opening avenues for research in political communication, especially when this communication is broad and meaningless.

Abstract Dynamic Photon Emission Microscopy (D-PEM) is an established technique for isolating short and open failures, where photons emitted by transistors are collected by sensitive infra-red detectors while the device under test is electrically exercised with automated test equipment (ATE). Common tests, such as scan, use patterns that are generated through Automatic Test Pattern Generator (ATPG) in compressed mode. When these patterns are looped for D-PEM, it results in indeterministic states within cells during the load or unload sequences, making interpretation of emission challenging. Moreover, photons are emitted with lower probability and lesser energies for smaller technology nodes such as the FinFET. In this paper, we will discuss executing scan tests in manners that can be used to bring out emission which did not show up in conventional test loops.

In cancer photodynamic therapy (PDT), improved efficiency of photosensitizer delivery to tumors may be obtained by binding them to targetable water soluble polymeric carriers. However, attachment of photosensitizers to Macromolecular carriers may alter their spectral and photosensitizing properties. In this study, a new monosubstituted phthalocyanine derivative, N-glycyl zinc(II) 4,9,16,23-tetraaminophthalocyanine (G-TAPC-Zn) was synthesized by the reaction of zinc(II) 4,9,16,23-tetraaminophthalocyanine (TAPC-Zn) with N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-glycine N'-hydroxybenzotriazole ester followed by deprotection of the tert-butoxycarbonyl (BOC) group. G-TAPC-Zn contains an aliphatic amino group suitable for attachment to water soluble polymeric carriers. By aminolysis of a polymeric precursor, an N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) copolymer containing oligopeptide (GFLG) side-chains terminated in p-nitrophenyl ester groups, with G-TAPC-Zn a polymeric derivative of the latter (P-GFLGG-TAPC-Zn) was synthesized. Spectral data indicated that in aqueous solutions P-GFLGG-TAPC-Zn formed aggregates. The degree of aggregation decreased with increasing concentration of detergents or organic solvents in buffer solutions. Consequently, the release of the drug from carrier catalyzed by thiol proteinases, papain or cathepsin B, took place only in the presence of detergents or organic solvents, i.e., under conditions with a lower probability of aggregate formation. Binding of G-TAPC-Zn to HPMA copolymers decreased the quantum yield of singlet oxygen generation from 0.24 to 0.063 and significantly increased its resistance to photobleaching.

A frequency hopping orthogonal frequency division multiple access (FH-OFDMA) can provide low probability of detection (LPD) and anti-jamming capabilities to users against adversary detectors. To obtain an extreme LPD capability that cannot be provided by the basic symbol-by-symbol (SBS)-based FH pattern, we proposed two FH patterns, namely chaotic standard map (CSM) and cat map for FH-OFDMA systems. In our previous work, through analysis of complexity to regenerate the transmitted symbol sequence, at the point of adversary detectors, we found that the CSM had a lower probability of intercept than the cat map and SBS. It is possible when a detector already knows symbol and frame structures, and the detector has been synchronized to the FH-OFDMA system. Unlike the previous work, here, we analyze whether the CSM provides greater LPD capability than the cat map and SBS by detection probability using spectrum sensing technique. We analyze the detection probability of the CSM and provide detection probabilities of the cat map and SBS compared to the CSM. Based on our analysis of the detection probability and numerical results, it is evident that the CSM provides greater LPD capability than both the cat map and SBS-based FH-OFDMA systems.
