CHANGES IN THE COMPONENTS OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT WITH THE LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT IN THE OPENCAST MINES (THE CASE OF KMA)

The influence of the processes of functioning of the local natural-technical systems (NTS) «Stoilenskoe» and «Lebedinskoe» of the KMA deposit on the environment has been studied with the information obtained during the period of last 7—12 years (2004—2015 y.y.). Results of the analyses of time series and obtained trends in the geological components alteration (in particular, a) level of groundwater, b) chemical composition of groundwater, c) engineering and geological processes) have been given. The ways of regime observations optimization concerning their placement and frequency in time have been offered. The proposed way of the assessment of the current state of NTS allows reducing the observations number, without reducing quality of information. The spatial structure and the time mode of monitoring have to be corrected according to the obtained information. The data received from Lebedinskoye and Stoylinskoye fields can be used for design and development of the similar geological fields.

In order to optimise the management of healthcare professionals and provide an enhanced quality of life for patients and carers alike, Remote Electronic Health Monitoring forms a crucial role. This requires myriad functions and components to achieve patient monitoring while accommodating the technological, medical, legal, regulatory, ethical, and privacy considerations. The chapter considers the relevant components and functions of the current state-of-the-art to the provision of effective Remote Electronic Health Monitoring. The authors present the background and related research, and then they focus on the technological aspects of Remote Electronic Health Monitoring to which Cloud-Based Systems and the closely related Cloud Service Modules are central. A number of scenarios to illustrate the concepts are discussed in the chapter.

Abstract A method has been developed that largely automates the labor-intensive extraction work for large amounts of rainfall strip charts and paper rolls. The method consists of the following five basic steps: 1) scanning the charts and rolls to high-resolution digital images, 2) manually and visually registering relevant meta information from charts and rolls and preprocessing rolls to locate day transitions, 3) applying automatic curve extraction software in a batch process to determine the coordinates of cumulative rainfall lines on the images, 4) postprocessing the curves that were not correctly determined in step 3, and 5) aggregating the cumulative rainfall in pixel coordinates to the desired time resolution. The core of the method is in step 3. Here a color detection procedure is introduced that automatically separates the background of the charts and rolls from the grid and subsequently the rainfall curve. The rainfall curve is detected by minimization of a cost function. In total, 321 station years of locations in the Netherlands have successfully been digitized and transformed to long-term rainfall time series with 5-min resolution. In about 30% of the cases, semiautomatic postprocessing of the results was needed using a purpose-built graphical interface application. This percentage, however, strongly depends on the quality of the recorded curves and the charts and rolls. Although developed for rainfall, the method can be applied to other elements as well.

Treatment of BEEC is primarily surgical, and the main goals are safe closure of the abdominal wall, urinary continence while preserving renal function, and adequate cosmetic and functional genital reconstruction. Psychosocial and psychosexual outcomes and adequate health-related quality of life depend on long-term multidisciplinary care. The overall outcome is now considered very positive and affected individuals usually lead self-determined and independent lives with the desire to start their own families later in life. Certainty about the risk of recurrence and the provision of information about the current state of knowledge about the identified genetic causes with high penetrance will have an impact on family planning for healthy parents with an affected child and for affected individuals themselves. This review addresses this information and presents the current state of knowledge.

The biostratigraphic history of the Earth as a process of continuous transformation and adaptation from the primary forms of life and till its current state had been considered in the present article.  The development of life on the Earth had started due to the changes of geological processes, changes of the chemical composition of the atmosphere and the aquatic environment, within the period of global catastrophe. As a result of more than 3.8 billion years the anthropogenic system «human – geological and related environment» was formed; it transformed the biosphere in accordance with the needs of human, creating the precedent of inconsistency between human needs and biosphere resources.  The basic scenarios of human and biosphere development within the technogene were defined. The results of studies helped to identify the biostratigraphic conditions of the Earth life. The article investigates scenarios of technogene development as well as the role of human under the conditions of intensive biosphere transformation due to the anthropogenic activities.

Abstract Approximately one million individuals, an estimated 40% with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias (ADRD), reside in assisted living (AL); yet, little is known about their experience or the quality of care provided in AL. Unlike other forms of long-term care (LTC), the licensing, operating, and enforcement requirements for AL falls to the states, which vary dramatically in their regulatory approaches. The overall objective of this symposium is to examine states’ AL regulatory environments and understand if and how the health outcomes of AL residents with ADRD are impacted by states’ regulatory decisions. Presenters will highlight the state variability in the regulation, oversight, resident composition, and outcomes of AL residents with ADRD. The first presentation will describe states’ different regulatory requirements for staffing and admission/discharge criteria as it relates to residents with ADRD and how those have changed over the last decade. The second presentation will report results from a national survey of state agents regarding their oversight and enforcement activities in AL. The third presentation will characterize differences in the resident composition and healthcare utilization among residents with ADRD across states. The fourth presenter will report on the effect of residing in an AL licensed to provide specialized dementia care versus a standard-licensed AL on ADRD residents’ outcomes. The discussant will contextualize findings as they relate to the current state of the AL industry. Results will ultimately inform policy-makers, organizational leaders, and clinicians as they seek the most effective ways to ensure optimal outcomes vulnerable residents with ADRD.

It is a strange paradox that the public is talking about health technology but cares more about disease technology: people address chronic diseases, people want to change unhealthy behaviors, people aim to help carers and nurses - but people hardly ever look at those who are and want to remain healthy. This is even stranger, as times of health outnumber periods of disease in most persons` lifetimes. Somewhat surprisingly, technology available today is not yet optimally suited to help staying healthy. The authors discuss challenges with respect to the adaption of health behavior models, long-term interaction, quality of data, design of devices, primary use of data, and life-long data. And the authors suggest understanding technical systems for wellbeing as navigational systems, guiding a person through life on a healthy path.

<p>A marine heatwave (MHW) is defined as a coherent area of extreme warm sea surface temperature that persists for days to months, which has a property of evolution from production through development to death in space and time. MHWs usually relates to climatic extremes that can have devastating and long-term impacts on ecosystems, with subsequent socioeconomic consequences. Long term remote sensing products make it possible for mining successive MHWs at global scale. However, more literatures focus on a spatial distribution at a fixed time snapshot or a temporal statistic at a fixed grid cell of MWHs. As few considering the temporal evolution of MWHs, it is greater challenge to mining their dynamic changes of spatial structure. Thus, this manuscript proposes a process-oriented approach for identifying and tracking MWHs, named as PoAITM. The PoAITM considers a dynamic evolution of a MWH, which consists of three steps. The first step uses the threshold-based algorithm to identifying the time series of grid pixels which meets the MWH definition, called as MWH pixels; the second adopts the spatial proximities to connect the MWH pixels at the snapshots, and transforms them spatial objects, called as MWH objects; the third combines the dynamic characteristics and spatiotemporal topologies of MWH objects between the previous and next snapshots to identify and track them belonging to the same ones. The final extract MWH with a property from production through development to death is defined as a MWH process. Comparison with the prevail methods of tracking MHWs, The PoAITM has three advantages. Firstly, PoAITM combines the spatial distribution and temporal evolution of MWH to identify and track the MWH objects. The second considers not only the spatial structure of MWH at current snapshot, also the previous and next ones, to track the MWH process, which ensures the MWH completeness in a temporal domain. The third is the dynamic behaviors of MWH, e.g. developing, merging, splitting, are also found between the successive MWH objects. Finally, we address the global MWHs exploring from the sea surface temperature products during the period of January 1982 to December 2018. The results not only show well-known knowledge, but also some new findings about evolution characteristics of MWHs, which may provide new references for further study on global climate change.</p>
