The purpose of this paper is to explore the business advantages of a company engaged in the field of food through its core competency. This paper provides results of core competency analysis of PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Tbk (JPFA). The research method used a case study that serves to express information in factual, structure, and accurate about the object study. This paper used the information and data obtained from Annual Report of JPFA and related records. This paper identifies a number of core competency factors based on finance performance analysis, business function analysis, and internal analysis & external factor summary (IFAS and EFAS). The based concept of the core competency refers to model that consists of capability, competence, and resource. The results of this paper show the core competency of JPFA in the capability of the company is able to produce products with good quality. In competence, the company is a market leader in its field by being able to dominate the market for animal feed products and DOC, synergy and efficiency in marketing product supported by the distribution network spread throughout Indonesia, and biosecurity such as isolation, fumigation, and farm management to guarantee quality of the product. In the resource, the company has professional and competent human resources. This paper provided managerial impact to company to maintain and develop business profits through its core competency.

Animal feed knife is a tool that serves to cut and chop animal feed consisting of grass as the main ingredient with additives such as bran, herbs, centrate, cassava, tofu pulp and others. Therefore, as a cutting tool must have the properties of friction resistance, impact resistance, and have good sharpness, so that the material chosen is Ni-Hard 1. The use of centrifugal casting method was chosen because it has the advantage of being able to make castings with relatively thin thickness this is due to the influence of the centrifugal force on the distribution of metal liquids throughout the cavity in the mold. Case study in this study is the use of centrifugal casting methods as an alternative to gravity casting methods to overcome defects of misruns. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of speed on the formation of castings products. The method that was carried out began with a literature study on centrifugal casting, and continued by determining the material, the temperature of the cast is in the range 1250ºC - 1300ºC, and the type of mold. The next step is to do work drawings, pattern making, mold making, casting processes, fettling processes, and analysis. With variations in speed of 200 rpm, 300 rpm and 400 rpm, it can be seen the optimal speed for making this product. The results of this study obtained optimal speed at a speed of 300 rpm to make good quality of animal feed knife products.

AbstractThe central aim of the article is company governance, i.e., researching governance of a company that does not want to be only financially successful but also direct its governance toward socially responsible governance. The article begins with the definition of “theoretical backgrounds,” in which social responsibility in regard to company governance improvement in quality is explained. The article then focuses on the measurement of the quality of company governance; in the research, the selected tool chosen to evaluate the governance of the chosen company regarding social responsibility, i.e., SEECGAN index, is used. Further, the case study of a Slovenian public limited liability company is used. One of the important research findings is the recognition that the addressed part of the SEECGAN index needs to be innovated and further developed. Additional questions for the completion of the index used presents the added value of the article. This article has two limitations: 1) it focuses only on the tool chosen to evaluate the governance of the chosen company regarding social responsibility; 2) the case study is based on publicly accessible data.

The article evaluated the control of Stencil in the subprocess of Printing of the SMD line of a company located in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM), to provide subsidies to develop a computerized system. With computerization, the focus of employees will be directed to the activities of production and quality of manufactured products, also, the collection of process data, done in real-time, will allow managers to better monitor and take actions in the process. To this end, a case study, bibliographic research of articles, dissertations, and theses involving the theme, and documentary research (forms, records, etc.) with the sectors involved were used. The descriptive statistics method was applied, quality tools were used, aimed at identifying and solving problems such as PDCA, Pareto, Ishikawa Diagram, flow chart, and 5W2H. A study of the activities related to the control of the Stencil was carried out, of the documentation used in the process, as well as of the factors and causes related to the effective Stencil control. Among the results, 24 causes affect the performance of the Stencil control, concluding that the main failures were human, due to the prioritization of production goals by the employees, leaving the other activities in the background, which is why the 24 guidelines proposed for the computerization of this process become relevant, some of which are: defining means to identify each Stencil using a bar code or QR code; do not allow the use of the Stencil if one of the activities unfinished in the process; stop production when an activity is not performed; digitize the documents used in this process; create an automatic notification to those responsible, when an action is necessary, etc.

One major objective for information portals is to provide relevant and timely information to their intended target groups. The main challenge from an information management perspective, however, is that the portal itself does not have full information ownership, and therefore cannot guarantee information quality. Poor information quality severely decreases the actual business value of a portal, but the quality of the portal information is inherited from the underlying sources. The case study we present illustrates the evolution of the Swedish Travel and Tourism Council’s (STTC) national Internet portal through three phases, thereby unmasking some of the core problems in portal information management: information ownership, stakeholder incentives, and clear business roles in the content provision process.

Ontology is the core component in Semantic Web applications. The employment of an ontology building method affects the quality of ontology and the applicability of ontology language. A weighted classification approach for ontology building guidelines is presented in this chapter. The evaluation criteria are based on an existing classification scheme of a semiotic framework for evaluating the quality of conceptual models. A sample of Web-based ontology building method guidelines is evaluated in general and experimented with using data from a case study in particular. Directions for further refinement of ontology building methods are discussed.

For every manufacturing organization, price of the product primarily comprises of manufacturing cost and desired profit. If a company wishes to increase its profit, one way is to reduce the manufacturing cost with maintaining the quality of the product. Waste reduction, especially the (wait) time waste, is an important factor to shrink the manufacturing cost. The purpose of this paper is to identify and address the way to reduce idle time in the apparel manufacturing organization using various line balancing technique to improve productivity and efficiency in domestic context. Line balancing job has been done through the ‘Largest Candidate Rule’ and ‘Ranked Positional Weight Technique’. Using these techniques, a software has been developed to arrange the elemental tasks in the workstation, and to show the balancing efficiencies of each method and other important information. The overall job may be very helpful in some decision making process of the organization. At last an efficient and balanced line has been proposed through the study.

This article aims to analyze the characteristics of a community of practice focused on the quality of management decision making in a company in the metallurgical industry, which is a company of cutting and bending steel for construction. Quality management requires greater flexibility in the activities, information sharing, skills development of individuals, and engagement among employees. The scientific method adopted was the descriptive cross-analysis case study, whose data was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with 180 individuals. It was observed that the creation of communities of practice does not occur at random, and its main features are defined identity of shared interest; the way to build the image belonging to a particular social group; and involvement in joint activities that allow them to learn from each other.

Synergy is a powerful tool that emerges when the social potential is improved and high activity is achieved. This is a feature of well-functioning and continuously learning teams. The aim of the study is to examine circumstances that may favour synergy in team work. Teams functioning in a company that is typical for a learning organisation were selected to conduct analysis in the case study. In order to collect the data, the author applied grounded theory and surveys along with descriptive and analytical methods. The study proved that team synergy conditions are the quality of cooperative relations, entrepreneurial potential and measurable effects of joint action.

<p><b>In a working environment where employee poaching and regular staff turnovers are common, the culture of an office is at the core of company loyalty and organisationalsustainability. This being said, many companies still lack the knowledge andunderstanding of their own work place, resulting in a disconnected understanding of whatspatial qualities benefit employee well-being. This Thesis proposes an innovated and unprecedented methodology in which a deeper understanding between officeend user and work place are explored. Through the implementation of immersivevirtual technologies such as 3D scanning and virtual reality, a deeper understandingof the worker and workplace can be facilitated. Explored through literature, theabilities of immersive virtual technologies allow for the potential of an alternative spatialenvironment in which users inhabit space. This methodology, tested through a pilot and case study, concur the potential of extracting connections between users and space at both an emotional and technical level. As such, the resulting data informs the design proposals, creating solutions that are cultured by the emotional connections extracted between user and office, as well as the spatial qualities needed to promote wellbeing.</b></p> <p>The proposed research methodology fruitions the possibility to identify the intangible quality of office culture within existing work places, providing opportunities to improve the spatial quality and in turn enhance the well-being of the end users. Ultimately, providing ahigher and more tangible understanding between architect, client and workplace.</p>

Intellectual property (IP) protection has been suggested to be essential in protecting innovation in product-dominant companies. However, with the development of service industries, the ineffectiveness in IP protection becomes manifest. Meanwhile, other knowledge protecting methods enable companies to maintain their competency without formal protection. This study examines the effectiveness of different means of knowledge protection. Specifically, business is classified according to companies’ offering nature, serving mode and consider about their business hardware. The effectiveness of protection methods is analyzed among these business types. Interviews were conducted with senior managers of 39 companies in China and Singapore. It is demonstrated that the choice of knowledge protecting method does not depend mainly on whether a company provides products or services, but on how the company produces and provides its offerings. It is found that the core competency of companies largely affects their attitude on whether to protect their offerings. It is found that in weak appropriability regimes, companies apply for patents not for their knowledge protection function, but for other benefits, such as getting awards or tax reductions, and improving reputation among customers.
