Work is a means for man to fulfill their needs. However, from the positive psychology point of view, work is more than to fulfill the needs but beyond that reason. Work experiences provide added value to man’s lives and societal growth. Nightlife industries are hardly researched even though these industries have been growing vastly. Workers in these areas are similar to other workers from different types of industries in that they make meaning of their work and experience job satisfaction and quality of their work-life. This research aimed at testing the contribution of the quality of work-life and meaningful work toward job satisfaction of female nightlife business workers. Path analysis using PLS-SEM shows that the job satisfaction of nightlife workers is predicted by their meaningful work and quality of work life. In this study, meaningful work acts as a mediator in the relationship between quality of work-life and job satisfaction.

Quality of Work Life (QWL) and job satisfaction are critical concepts in the field of Human Resource Management (HRM). An intellectual puzzle was chosen by the researchers with regard to whether QWL and job satisfaction are the same or different, and if different, how they are differed. By using the desk research strategy a systematic attempt was made to solve the intellectual puzzle to a reasonable extent. Both constructs were found to be different and related. Four facets of the relationship between the two constructs were revealed: Job satisfaction being a dimension of QWL; job satisfaction not being a dimension of QWL; job satisfaction working as an antecedent of QWL; and finally job satisfaction being a consequence of QWL. Formulated synthesis is perceived as an original contribution to the concepts of QWL and job satisfaction.

First psychometric properties of the instrument were tested, and then hierarchical regression was used as a statistical technique for analyzing the data.FindingsThe hierarchical regression results indicated that QWL is (1) negatively related to job stress, (2) positively related to job satisfaction and (3) positively related to job commitment. The results also indicated that (1) job stress is negatively related to WLB, (2) job satisfaction is positively related to WLB and (3) job commitment is positively related to WLB. The results also show partial mediation of job stress, job satisfaction, and job commitment in the relationship between QWL and WLB.Research limitations/implicationsSince the present research is based on self-report measures, the limitations of social desirability bias and common method bias are inherent.
