Traditions of foreign countries studies in modern russian economic expertise

The article deals with Russian traditions of studies of foreign countries which have become an intellectual pillar for Russian economic expertise. The modern application of experience of Soviet scientific schools in international studies is shown, especially in the fields of world development forecasts, analysis of Russian foreign economic relations and research of economic policy abroad. The article is based on open sources with publications, reports and presentations about expert and analytical activities of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and other institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, VNIKI-Institute, MGIMO-University and some other centers. It is explained that results of international studies have become a necessary element for consulting of governmental bodies and businessmen in the epoch of globalization.

Its participants analyze the present state of political systems in Pacific Asia countries and in India which is striving for interaction with them, as well as their development perspectives up to 2030. In conclusion, the situation in Russia, factors and options of its evolution are examined amid political transformations in Pacific Asia.

Yaroshenko – participated in discussion of the report. The keynote report and the discussion succeded are introduced for readers' consideration.


The report “Russia and the World: 2021. Annual Forecast: Economy and Foreign Policy” continues the series of yearly publications of the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) and Foundation for Prospective Studies and Initiatives. It consists of two parts: “Economy” and “Foreign Policy”. Part I focuses upon Russian foreign trade-economic relations and analysis and forecast of the world (Russia, Europe, the USA, Japan, India) economic trends in 2020-2021, including international financial markets and main Russian export markets. The report is based on the decades long IMEMO experience in forecast research. Part II presents the forecast of international relations for 2021, it analyzes main challenges for Russia and options to respond them.

The collapse of the Soviet empire led countries to gain their independence. Azerbaijan was one of these countries in a country with a very centuries-old history. The Republic of Azerbaijan, which declared its independence in 1991, underwent reforms to restore its economy. The main goal was to change the mechanism of governing the economy left over from Communism. He first signed the Contract of the Century in 1994. At the same time, it stimulated the development of not only economic relations but also international relations. At the same time, the genocide committed by Armenians in 1989 was a great blow to the people of Azerbaijan. It has been 30 years since the occupation of up to 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan and the failure of the Armenians to return the occupied lands.At a time when capitalism is at its peak in the age of globalization, the unexpected COVID-19 virus, which has frightened the whole world, is causing unexpected damage to the world economy. One of them was Azerbaijan. According to forecasts, the country's economy is expected to shrink by 10%.Azerbaijan's relations with Poland, one of its main Western allies, are helping both in economic and other terms. Azerbaijan is a country with its products in the European market. Relations with Poland, a key partner, are growing stronger.
