Modern application stores enable developers to classify their apps by choosing from a set of generic categories, or genres, such as health, games, and music. These categories are typically static—new categories do not necessarily emerge over time to reflect innovations in the mobile software landscape. With thousands of apps classified under each category, locating apps that match a specific consumer interest can be a challenging task. To overcome this challenge, in this article, we propose an automated approach for classifying mobile apps into more focused categories of functionally related application domains. Our aim is to enhance apps visibility and discoverability. Specifically, we employ word embeddings to generate numeric semantic representations of app descriptions. These representations are then classified to generate more cohesive categories of apps. Our empirical investigation is conducted using a dataset of 600 apps, sampled from the Education, Health&Fitness, and Medical categories of the Apple App Store. The results show that our classification algorithms achieve their best performance when app descriptions are vectorized using GloVe, a count-based model of word embeddings. Our findings are further validated using a dataset of Sharing Economy apps and the results are evaluated by 12 human subjects. The results show that GloVe combined with Support Vector Machines can produce app classifications that are aligned to a large extent with human-generated classifications.

The maqāṣid theory is a popular trend in Islamic legal theories. Contemporary scholars view it as a valid method of interpreting the revealed text and as a valuable instrument for solving contemporary issues because it helps reform Islamic thought and civilization. Indeed, the idea of maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah has been widely studied and expanded by modern scholars of Islamic legal theory. Chiefly, Ibn ͑Ashur and contemporary MaqÉsid scholars renewed the scholarly discourse and ensured its proliferation and wide acceptance in legal studies. It has emerged as a new science that connects with all other legal disciplines. Thus, scholars firmly assert that the maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah constitute the most important intellectual means and methodologies for Islamic reform today. Consequently, the researchers aim to examine the modern discourse of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah and the latest developments beyond the universal MaqÉÎid. Mainly, the researchers scrutinize the two objectives namely the preservation of the environment via the protection of life and wealth. Accordingly, this article follows the qualitative method of data collection and analysis. Among the findings of the research is that the latest developments of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, open the door of ijtihād widely to create ample areas for jurists to regulate the affairs of the Muslim ummah. Further, the maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah do not reflect only the objectives of Islamic law; their role goes beyond and is used to formulate basic principles and values related to global peace and human welfare. Hence, they have greatly contributed to the revival of Islamic thought and have opened a wider space for the application of Islamic law pertaining to peaceful environment.

Taking China’s national intangible cultural heritage (ICH) Zhuang brocade as the research object, its cultural traits were extracted through scientific methods from the perspective of Kansei Engineering. Samples were collected through desk research, expert interviews, and questionnaires for qualitative and quantitative research. The semantic differential method was adopted to analyze the vocabulary descriptions of different types of Zhuang brocade samples, and the Likert scale was used to measure the viewer’s visual perception. Eye tracker experiments were conducted to verify and further explore the cultural traits of Zhuang brocade so that the emotions in this ICH can be quantified more scientifically. Based on the heat map and data, scientific and reasonable descriptions and typical shapes best matching Zhuang brocade cultural traits were acquired. By using new technologies to interpret ICHs, this study proposed another way to extract cultural traits from ICH. The extracted Zhuang brocade cultural traits in this study could help improve the understanding of Zhuang brocade. This study could also provide certain references for the modern application and design of Zhuang brocade.

Abstract Historically, Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, differentiated osteopathic medicine from allopathic medicine with its unique approach to treatment using manual therapy. Those treatments, known as osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), are currently used to treat somatic dysfunction. The Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles (ECOP) includes different treatment methods, such as muscle energy, high-velocity, low-amplitude, Still techniques, myofascial release, and counterstrain, amongst others, under the category of OMT. Conversely, osteopathic practitioners outside the USA, mostly from Europe, use some techniques that are not necessarily documented as OMT by the ECOP. This is the case of the General Osteopathic Treatment (GOT). The GOT found its origin with Dr. Still and was promoted, amongst his contemporaries, by Dr. John Martin Littlejohn, DO, who founded the British School of Osteopathy in London. The general treatment, based on a strong biomechanical background, was further spread in Europe by John Wernham, DO, a British osteopath and one of Littlejohn’s students. Wernham developed and taught the GOT in its original form based on the principles and philosophy of osteopathic medicine. The goals of this article are to give an historical perspective of the GOT, to describe the foundation and concepts behind it, and to provide a review of the scientific literature of this treatment approach. The GOT can be used to diagnose and directly treat somatic dysfunction using the TART principle in a clinical setting. Besides the recognized contra-indications of treating somatic dysfunction, there are no clear scientifically published findings of contraindications for the use of the GOT. Like other OMTs, the GOT needs more scientific evidence to better understand its clinical applications.

Sri Lanka is a country where the coconut plant (Cocos nuceifera) is of utmost importance to daily activities. However, while the coconut fruit is used in meals every day, the shell is usually discarded in modern times. This is a case study that aims to investigate the modern application of the usually discarded object, the coconut shell, within a musical instrument and the quality and feasibility of such a musical instrument. First, the importance of the coconut plant in Sri Lankan culture and daily life is to be discussed, through which, the historic application of coconut shells as a raw material to construct musical instruments is to be investigated. Leading on to question the modern use of coconut shells as such, a selected instrument, the tharanga beraya was then investigated. Finally, comparisons of this to the traditional percussion instrument, the thammattama, was considered. While this research is qualitative in nature, discussions and field observations were used as a primary source and the relevant texts and articles on matters were used as secondary sources of information. Audio-video techniques were used to document the relevant data. Conclusions and thoughts on the future for this instrument were brought out in the end.

(1) Background: the frequency with which diagnostic tests are prescribed with exposure to ionizing radiation, a cause of biological damage, has been studied, and with much more attention, patients are subjected to these diagnostic tests for diagnosis and follow-up. This review aimed, given the recent developments of this technology, to evaluate the possible use of ultrasound in different branches of dentistry. The possibility of applying ionizing-radiation-free diagnostic exams in dentistry, overcoming the limits of this application, has led scientific research in this area to obtain interesting results that bode well for the future. (2) Methods: a search for articles on the application of ultrasounds in dentistry was performed using the PubMed electronic database. (3) Results: only 32 studies were included, and these clearly stated that this examination is widely usable and in great progress. (4) Conclusions: regarding the modern application techniques of this diagnostic test, it is essential to consider technological evolution as an objective to reduce the damage and side effects of necessary diagnostic tests. The use of ultrasound in dentistry can represent a valid radiation-free alternative, in certain contexts, to the other most used exams.

During the last decades, Chinese medicine has been widely used for curing various diseases in the healthcare domain. Based on the databases of medicine wisdom and modern application of prescriptions, we have explored the medication pattern of ancient and modern prescriptions for the treatment of peptic ulcer in various patients. In this paper, we have proposed a neural network model which is based on the time series decomposition and is able to mine and predict the medication pattern of peptic ulcer treatment in Chinese medicine. For this purpose, cumulative distance level method, Mann–Kendall trend analysis, Hurst exponent, and characteristic point methods are used for the trend analysis. Likewise in the proposed model, the wavelet analysis method is used for the periodicity analysis and Mann–Kendall mutation test method along with Pettitt methods is used for mutability analysis. In addition, autocorrelation and unit root methods are utilized to test the random terms. The Chinese herbal formulas (where the main diseases are peptic ulcer, peptic ulcer, cerebral leakage, and cerebral abscess) are collected from the databases of medicine wisdom and modern application of prescriptions. Furthermore, methods of frequency analysis, association rule analysis, and factor analysis are used to evaluate the grouping pattern of prescriptions for peptic ulcer treatment. The error in the proposed scheme between the predicted and the measured values of 87 prescriptions, which involve five Chinese medicines for peptic ulcer and 160 Chinese medicines, obtained from the neural network was 16.79%.

Abstract The paper considers the actual task of construction engineering: the elimination of harmful (undesirable) vibration phenomena in composite metal building structures and bridge cable-stayed systems – complete damping and vibration of the bridge cable-stayed system entails the calming of the entire bridge structure. Similar problems arise when designing devices that lead to dynamic rest of network antenna structures. The presentation of the material is based on the main provisions of the modern theory of optimal control of distributed differential systems with network carriers. An extensive literature is devoted to the sanctification of the research of the mentioned problem, however, an exhaustive solution of the problems of controlling elastic structures by external influences of various types (distributed, boundary, starting, and point control) and a comparative analysis of their properties did not find their place in these studies. In addition, the ways of algorithmization of previously obtained results are not always specified. The paper uses a mathematical model describing small oscillations of a spatial string system. It is convenient to use such a system and approaches to the analysis of its mathematical model as a fairly simple fundamental object when considering a more complex object, which is an elastic system of more complex elements. The results of the work are presented in a form that makes it possible to formalize the computational procedure, which is convenient for algorithmizing the process of determining the solution, and therefore for the modern application of computer technology. It remains to add that the work indicates ways to transfer the obtained results to the case of analyzing optimal control problems with carriers on multidimensional network-like domains.

Radiotherapy is highly involved in the management of prostate cancer. Its features and potential applications experienced a radical evolution over last decades, as they are associated to the continuous evolution of available technology and current oncological innovations. Some application of radiotherapy like brachytherapy have been recently enriched by innovative features and multidisciplinary dedications. In this report we aim to put some questions regarding the following issues regarding multiple aspects of modern application of radiation oncology: the current application of radiation oncology; the modern role of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for both the management of primary lesions and for lymph-nodal recurrence; the management of the oligometastatic presentations; the role of brachytherapy; the aid played by the application of the organ at risk spacer (spacer OAR), fiducial markers, electromagnetic tracking systems and on-line Magnetic Resonance guided radiotherapy (MRgRT), and the role of the new opportunity represented by radiomic analysis.
