Electrical energy use is an interesting topic because it is related to the operational planning of the distribution system, maintenance of medium voltage networks, and prediction of electricity consumption, especially in  the short term. Trends are created based on historical data represented in the load  curves. This research aims to determine the characteristics of the load by making load groups according to   the type of day and calculate  the load factor based on secondary data from PT. PLN (Persero) Borang substation. The research uses comparative techniques in the load groups and calculates the load factor which is the benchmark for generation  capacity. The results of the study  showed that the load trendon Singkarak feeders in  overall is the same on weekdays as on weekends, namely that  minimum load occurs in the morning at 07.00, the load starts to increase but is not significant in relation to  the activities of the population after 08.00-16.00. The load trend increases significantly from 16.00 to the peak load that occurs at 19.00-21.00 and after that, the load goes down  to the minimum load. The trend  for higher than average peak loads on Mondays is more common and weekend loads on Saturdays and Sundays only relatively small  load fluctuationsoccur.. The load group for religious holidays and national holidays received good load factor scores, with a relatively small range of loads throughout the day.

Electricity consumption in Indonesia is expected to continue to grow by average of 6,5% per year until 2020. Therefore, PT. PLN had to make an effective subsystem that can provide electrical energy based on customer needs. The electrical energy is converted from the mechanical energy and can’t be stored. Because of that reason, if the electrical energy isn’t channeled properly then PT. PLN will suffer losses. It is necessary to plan a proper distribution system of electrical energy. The aim of this research is to predict short-term electricity consumption for Paiton’s subsystem in East Java Indonesia by using ARIMA and Multilayer Perceptron. The best model is measured based on MAPE, SMAPE, and RMSE value in data sample. The result of the analysis shows that Multilayer Perceptron method provides better accuracy rate for electricity consumption forecasting in Paiton subsystem based on peak load compared to ARIMA

Electric vehicle technology becomes increasingly important as it takes care of the environmental issues related to ICE vehicle and reduces the dependency on fossil fuels. Electric vehicle being greatly dependent on the limited electrical energy provided by a battery, the power flow efficiency is very important in this context. Electric vehicle integration to the distribution grid is increased at a faster rate because it can act as power backup to the grid/local loads reducing the peak load and filling the valley point. Most of software engineers own an Electric Vehicle based on eco-friendly principles. The Batteries in the car are connected to the charging point (or) grid monitoring of State of Charging (SOC) facilities in the parking area of company. When the Renewable power (solar energy) is available, the batteries will be charged to hundred percentage of SOC. Then excess power from PV will connect to load as well as grid. When the electrical power supply cutoff the car batteries will act as a battery bank of UPS and support to the critical load with condition based Allowable SOC. The total capacity of the batteries depends upon the no of cars available at a particular shift in a day. This work proposes the power backup of EV is utilized as an UPS to Software Company as well as used to support the Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) to mitigate the fault occurring in the distribution system. Additionally, the EV supported DVR compensates voltage harmonics, voltage sag-swell, voltage interruptions coming from distribution to enhance power-quality of entire EV system without any additional compensation devices. The entire system is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results confer the feasibility of the proposed objective.

Electric motors and boilers lead the industrial components which consume the largest portion of energy in an industry. This study explores the energy audit data of the condiment industry in India. The study mainly focuses on the estimation of the load factor, energy use, energy savings and annual bill savings with payback period of the electric motors of the plant. During the audit, it was found that there were several motors running under loaded conditions despite non-availability of variable speed drives installed in the plant. Therefore, variable speed drives are recommended to be installed to save energy by reducing the motors speed by up to 60%. According to the estimation, about 276 MWh, 551 MWh and 827 MWh electrical energy can be saved for 20%, 40% and 60% speed reduction of the motors using variable speed drives, respectively, where in most of the cases the payback period remains below 1 year. Furthermore, some suggestions are made to improve the poor power factor of running motors by using capacitor banks to save the reactive power. Besides, an estimation of energy saving is performed with a 2-ton capacity boiler. Since, there was no heat recovery system in the boiler; an air-preheater is suggested to be installed at the end of flue gas exhausting path of the boiler with the purpose of saving 68 tons of fuel per annum and having a payback period of 12 months. Moreover, a digital monitoring system, namely, “The Smart Joules” has been proposed to be installed in the plant aiming at saving about 3–5% of total energy per annum and having a payback period of 19 months. Finally, a summarization is made concluding in the fact that about 90 MWh energy and 95 tons of fuel can be saved (excluding motor energy savings) per annum by implementing proposed measures with a payback period of 15 months.

In the rapid development of the world as it is today, the electricity has a very important role in supporting people activities. PT PLN (Persero), which in this case as Government State Owned Company that directly manage the provision of electrical energy is required to be ready to face the development of electricity demand in Indonesia. In distribution system of electricity, problems often occure because of the length of line distribution system which cause voltage drop, technical losses, power losses, etc. One of them happened to PT PLN (Persero) Rayon Muaralabuh. Where the distance between the main substation (GI Solok) with the first connecting substation is ±110 KMS. This distance cause 9.62 % voltage drop during peak load. This nominal of voltage drop happens for just the first connecting substation that will be the source of division for all working areas of PT PLN (Persero) Rayon Muaralabuh. This factor encourages PT PLN (Persero) West Sumatra Area Solok to agree if Independent Power Plant (IPP) takes part in generating electricity, which will be distribute to PT. PLN (Persero) West Sumatera Area Solok Rayon Muaralabuh through interconnection system. The simulation of power flow using Etap 12.6.0 is used to analyze the stability of 20 kV system voltage at PT PLN (Persero) Rayon Muaralabuh before and after interconnection. Based on the result of simulation and Etap calculation, the highest voltage drop before interconnection by IPP is on Feeder express LubukGadang which is 13,71 %. After the interconnection by IPP, the voltage drop on that feeder becomes 4,326%, and the highest voltage drop is 4,855 %. Therefore, the voltage drop after the interconnection by the IPP already meets the standards allowed by SPLN No. 72 of 1987 which is maximum 5 % voltage drop. The precentage of technical losses in PT PLN (Persero) Rayon Muaralabuh before interconnection is 13,074 %, and after interconnection is decreased to 8,306 %.

With power conversion losses endemic in all areas of electricity consumption, broadlycategorized into motion control (accounting for around 50% of total electrical energy use), lighting, air conditioning, and information technology, consumers, governments and utilities are finding waysto achieve higher efficiency. Manufacturers of data servers, telecom systems, solar power invertersand drives for motor control are focused on reducing power conversion losses while simultaneouslyshrinking the size of power systems. Although silicon has historically been the base device materialused by the power conversion industry, it is rapidly reaching its physical performance limits. GaNsemiconductors solutions reduce power conversion loss by over 50% in a significantly smaller formfactor and at a lower cost, when device design, fabrication technology and application design areholistically combined to deliver superior end products.
