Successful Global Collaborations in Higher Education Institutions is an insightful read. This guide is geared towards university administrators, faculty, and staff who want to join forces with other institutions and make their universities preeminent institutions of the 21st century and beyond. The guide is broken into three sections with the first section being my favorite. The first section highlights King Abdulaziz University (KAU) who is the pioneer institution that created the blueprint for global collaborations. Personally, I have never heard of this university before opening the book. However, King Abdulaziz University collaborated with other academic and research institutions which catapulted them into their success in global ranks. The first section also highlights how institutions could create a climate that will assist in creating global partnerships.

Teaching and learning in the 21st century not only utilizes various technologies, but also takes place any time and any place. During the last decade, higher education institutions equipped many of their classrooms with the latest computer hardware and software applications and trained their faculty and staff to use the technology. With the technological advancements and the changing needs of institutions and students, more faculty members are teaching online.

“We are on the precipice of an epoch,” in which 21st century organizations are facing a complex, competitive landscape driven largely by globalization and the technological revolution (Hitt, 1998, p. 218). As such, Bikson, Treverton, Moini and Lindstrom (2003) have urged universities to develop a global leadership curriculum, based on their prediction of a future shortage of global leaders in all sectors. Abstract Strategic planning becomes, nowadays, an integral part of higher education institutions management. It aims at supporting universities and colleges to anticipate changes, mobilize institutional energies and potentials around a shared vision and face new challenges. In spite of the well-acknowledged added value of strategic planning in higher education institutions worldwide, it still has not received enough attention within Algerian research institutions where traditional long-run planning is still prevailing. The present article aims at exploring the practice of research planning among Algerian research institutions focusing on its main elements, namely planning model, setting research priorities, alignment of objectives, research project planning, criteria of validating research projects, researchers' motivations and research projects monitoring. The article also highlights the potential value that strategic planning can deliver to help Algerian research institutions improve their performance and achieve their goals.

The purpose of this article is to reveal the experiences of the higher education accreditation model and expectations of the freedom to learn policy or “Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka” (MBKM). Indonesia has more than 4000 higher education institutions that are building quality to educate the nation’s life. But only a few of these managed to become centers of excellence. There has been a widening quality gap between universities in Java and outside Java. Without radical policies in the higher education sector, the future of the young generation will be threatened. MBKM policy, with a few notes, can be an alternative solution for the 21st century.

This article presents the subjective perspectives of women leaders working in higher education institutions in the 21st century in South Africa. It focuses in particular on creativity as demonstrated by women leaders working in culturally and gender diverse post-apartheid settings. The aim is to contribute to the discourse on the creativity of women leaders from diverse cultural backgrounds within South Africa higher education institutions by examining how women leaders experience creativity and what creativity means to them from a qualitative perspective. The study reported on assessed the experiences of creativity of 23 women leaders and their views on creativity and creative leadership by means of a research paradigm based on Wilhelm Dilthey’s modern hermeneutics. It used qualitative research methods, such as semi-structured interviews, as well as observations within one selected higher education institution. Data was analysed by means of content analysis. Quality research criteria and ethical considerations were upheld. The findings highlight the creative skills and attitudes of women leaders underlying successful leadership and the types of creative leadership applied. They suggest that women leaders’ creativity manifests in facilitating creativity in higher education institutions by fostering the creativity of others rather than directing their own creative vision through or integrating it in the work of employees.

Choosing a university is a crucial decision in a person's life because, most of the time, the acquisition of a university degree allows him access to better working conditions. Universities are interested in knowing the factors that students cite as impacting their choice of university. This study aims to classify future university students according to different evaluation criteria that could help university administrators to improve their recruitment and positioning strategies. Building on the growing body of knowledge related to the marketing of Higher Education Institutions, the current study seeks to further explore the existence of segments featuring different selection patterns. The main goal of this study was tested by applying Latent Class Analysis as a segmentation method, also referred to as Latent Class Cluster Analysis. This study found that students have different sets of motivations for their choice of Higher Education Institutions, and also found significant differences in the motivations of males and females with regard to university selection. All of these findings are of great importance to the managers of university brands, particularly at the university under study.

Interest in higher education institutions (HEIs) as instruments for development has increased in recent years. The main objective of this chapter is to address the main challenges HEIs face in the 21st century as key actors for regional development, emphasising their entrepreneurial dimension. The pressures exerted on HEIs to become more effective, efficient, and autonomous require a reflection regarding the present and future of higher education. Through a detailed analysis and discussion of the relevant literature, this chapter contributes to a better understanding of the role of HEIs, especially given its relationship with society and the need for a more effective contribution to socioeconomic development.
