Students are mostly talkative outside the classroom, but in English class, they are more apathetic. This research aims to examine how English Language Training for Islamic Schools (ELTIS) resource pack is able to activate students’ to speak English. This research is designed as Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is specific to collaborative action research. The subjects of this research are 25 students of the eighth class of MTs Pacongan Pinrang in the academic year 2019/2020. Instruments of the research test, observation checklist, and interview. The test aims to gain quantitative data, while the observation checklist and interview aim to gain qualitative data. The result finds that the use of various media available in ELTIS Resource Pack activates students to speak English. A variety of learning media reduces students’ boredom and engages students during the learning process enthusiastically.

This chapter aims to present two action research case studies conducted in the English Language Schools of two universities in Turkey and discuss the long-term effects of this Professional Development activity on teachers' professional lives. In both of these studies, teachers were involved in collaborative action research. The first case study discusses a small scale collaborative Action Research project which targeted 16 English language teachers. Case Study Two, on the other hand, is a large scale project which explores 160 English language teachers' collaborative action research study. Detailed information about each case study is provided by highlighting the aims, institutional contexts, participant profiles, methodology used and findings. Teachers' perceptions about action research and the long-term impact of it on their professional growth are also discussed. Conclusion part highlights the factors that need to be taken into consideration while setting up collaborative action research projects in institutions. Finally, future research recommendations are made.

This research aims to improve the classroom practices of rural primary teachers in developing mathematics word problem through collaborative action research. The cooperation between fourth grade teachers and researchers from university focused on examining the results of the implementation of the two activities within the action plans, ‘Creating word problems communicatively based  by teachers’ and ‘Solving word problems easily by students’. From the analysis of qualitative data (interviews with students, observation and journal entries) and quantitative (tests and questionnaires) seen a significant improvement of the results of teacher in word problem creating and students in word problem solving. Developing word problem based on thematic mathematical stories enabled students to guide in using storytelling as a tool for understanding word problems

Grammar becomes one of the subjects studied in all Indonesian English Department. It is because grammar has the important role in all English skills. Grammar makes those four English skills meaningful. Somebody can be said as a master of English when he or she also masters grammar. Unfortunately, learning grammar is not as easy as what we think. It needs the effective method that can make the learners motivated and active in learning as well as in applying the grammar in the real life. Problem-based learning applied in this research is one of the alternatives that can help the learners learn grammar easily. This research was a collaborative action research whose general purpose to know whether or not Problem-based learning could improve the students’ grammar competence. Meanwhile, the specific purposes were to know the lecturer’s activities, the students’ activities, and the students’ responses when problem-based learning was implemented in grammar class. Nine students of the fifth semester of English department of education faculty of Hasyim Asy’ari University (UNHASY) Tebuireng Jombang in the academic year of 2016/2017 became the subjects of this research. The data got was from the observation notes and the grammar test. There was an improvement on students’ grammar competence from cycle one to cycle two. It was proven by their mean score from 66.7 in cycle one to 72.8 in cycle two. Meanwhile, the percentage of students passing the minimum mastery criteria was from 44.4 in cycle one and 88.9 in cycle two. So that it can be concluded that problem-based learning could improve students’ grammar competence.

<em>The study aimed to apply the steps of inside outside circle (ioc) model and to improve student speaking skills and cooperation. The research was a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) carried out in three cycles. The subjects were  third grade students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari in academic year of 2019/2020. Qualitative data was the application of Inside Outside Circle (IOC) model. Quantitative data was the increasing student speaking skills and cooperation. The results showed that Inside Outside Circle (IOC) model improved student speaking skills and cooperation in five steps. It was proven by oral exam percentages which were 70.32% in the first cycle, 79.83% in the second cycle, and 89.01% in the third cycle. The  student cooperation percentages were 60.83% in the first cycle, 75.57% in the second cycle, and 84.25% in the third cycle. It concludes that there is significant improvement of student speaking skills by the application of Inside Outside Circle (IOC) model.</em>

This study was aimed to find out whether or not Teaching Prewriting Stages can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs, to describe the role of prewriting stages in helping the students to write descriptive paragraphs. This study was conducted by using Classroom Action Research. It was done through 1) planning, 2) action, 3) observation, and 4) reflection. The population and the sample was the ninth grade students of SMP Swasta BUDISATRYA at 2018/2019 academic year. This research applied quantitative and qualitative method. Quantitative data were taken from the students' writing descriptive paragraph test. Qualitative data were taken from observation, interview, and diary notes. The result of the research shows that there was some improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs through teaching prewriting stages. It can be proved from the students' score which improved from cycle 1 to cycle 2.  The improvement can be seen that in pre test the means score was 33.52. In the first cycle, meeting 1 the means score was 37.35, in meeting 2 was 42.64 and in meeting 3 was 52.64. In the second cycle, meeting 1 the means score was 64,41,  in meeting 2 was 80 and in meeting 3 was 91.17. The improvement also can be seen from the percentage of the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph by using prewriting stage; in pre test, no one of the students got 75 points. In the first cycle, in meeting 1, and meeting 2, there was also no one student got 75 point,  but in meeting 3 there was 23,52% (8 students) got 75 points. It means there was an improvement about 23.52 % . In the second cycle, in meeting 1 there was 29.41% (10 students) got 75 points, it means that there was an improvement about 5.89%. In meeting 2 there was 79.41% (27 students) got 75 points, it means that there was an improvement about 50%.  In meeting 3 there was 100% (34 students) got up 75 points. It means that prewriting stages helped the students to write descriptive paragraphs through brainstorming, listing supporting point, making a simple outline to write event, place or object related to the topic. So, the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph is significantly improved by applying prewriting stage.

The objective of this research was to improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text through clustering technique at the tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year 2018/2019. This research was conducted at tenth grade in second semester at MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year 2017/2018. The design of this research was classroom action research (CAR). This research was applied collaborative action research, this research was done in two cycle. It  is done with; planning, acting, observation and reflecting. In collecting data, the writer uses; test,observation and questionnaire. the application of the clustering technique could improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. Based on the results of the observation obtained the students more understanding to make descriptive sentences, and make the descriptive sentences into a descriptive text. The activity make the student become interested to describe the pictures or object, students more active and more anthusiasm in the writing learning process. Then, in Cycle 1 students passed is 15 (60%). In cycle 2 students passes the KKM (80%). Was improved 20% in cycle 2. By this number, the researcher concludes that the minimum target of success, that is 70% of the students in a class, has been achieved in cycle 2, and from the third data we can conclude it was prove that clustering technique can positively improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text at tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year of 2018/2019   Keyword : Improve Student’s Writing, Descriptive Text, Clustering technique.

The aims of this research were to describe how the students’ participation in speaking learning process by using drilling technique and to improve the students’ speaking ability in the speaking learning process through drilling technique. This research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The population of this research is the X grade of MM A SMK Ma’arif 1 Kebumen in the academic year 2019/2020 which is consisted of 36 students. This research was conducted in two cycles which each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research finding showed in qualitative and quantitative data. In qualitative data showed that before treatment, the contributions of the students were low, but after treatment most of them were contributed to the lesson. They also did not want to be voluntary when the teacher asked questions but, after treatment they became active to answer the questions and participated actively with the lesson. In quantitative data showed that the mean points of their participation point was 33, in pre-test was 41,6, from post-test 1 was 60,5 and in the post-test 2 was 78,9. It can be concluded that from the data of observation, pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 the points of students’ participation were improved. Moreover, based on the table of speaking score, in pre-test the mean points of their speaking score was 58,6, from post-test 1 the mean points of their speaking score was 72,9 and in the post-test 2 the mean points of their speaking score was 80,1. It can be concluded that drilling technique could improve the students’ participation in speaking at the X grade of MM A SMK Ma’arif 1 Kebumen. Therefore, it is recommended that: (1) it is better for teachers to apply this method in the teaching speaking; and (2) future researchers can conduct research in another topic discussion and different English language skill.                                                                                           Keyword: Participation, Speaking, Drilling Technique Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan bagaimana partisipasi berbicara siswa dalam proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan drilling teknik dan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam proses pembelajaran melalui drilling teknik. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Populasi penelitian ini adalah kelas X MM A SMK Ma'arif 1 Kebumen pada tahun akademik 2019/2020 yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan dalam data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Dalam data kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa sebelum adanya tindakan kelas, kontribusi siswa rendah, tetapi setelah adanya tindakan kelas sebagian besar dari mereka berkontribusi pada pelajaran. Mereka juga tidak mau dengan sukarela menjawab ketika guru mengajukan pertanyaan tetapi, setelah adanya tindakan kelas mereka menjadi aktif untuk menjawab pertanyaan dan berpartisipasi aktif dengan pelajaran. Dalam data kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata dari poin partisipasi mereka adalah 33, pada pre-test adalah 41,6, dari post-test 1 adalah 60,5 dan pada post-test 2 adalah 78,9. Selain itu, berdasarkan nilai berbicara, pada pre-test poin rata-rata skor berbicara mereka adalah 58,6, dari post-test 1 poin rata-rata skor berbicara mereka adalah 72,9 dan pada post-test 2 poin rata-rata dari skor berbicara mereka adalah 80,1. Dari hasil data diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa drilling teknik dapat meningkatkan partisipasi siswa dalam berbicara di kelas X MM A SMK Ma'arif 1 Kebumen. Oleh karena itu, direkomendasikan bahwa: (1) lebih baik bagi guru untuk menerapkan metode ini dalam pengajaran berbicara; dan (2) peneliti lain nantinya dapat melakukan penelitian dengan topik lain dan keterampilan bahasa Inggris yang berbeda. This article reports on the first three phases (exploration, identification, and planning) of a collaborative action research study whose main objective was to transform the pedagogical practices of teachers of a Colombian school of foreign languages. A methodology of collaborative action research and techniques, such as direct observation, completion of a reflection journal, and surveys and interviews with teachers and students was employed. Findings showed that the participants managed to identify some of the major problems they faced within their pedagogical practices and to design and implement courses of action to overcome them. Upon completion, favorable perceptions about the impact of collaborative action research on the transformation of the participating English language teachers’ pedagogical practices could be evidenced.

The objective of this research was to improve students’ English speaking competency by using podcast in teaching and learning. The subject of the research was the speaking competency of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Amlapura, i.e. X MIA 1 class. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. There were two kinds of data collected, the qualitative data were obtained from the questionnaires and observation checklist. The quantitative data were collected by conducting pre-test and post-test. The result of study showed that the main score of the students’ English speaking competency gained on the pre-test was 60.43, on the post-test 1 was 72.46 and on post-test 2 was 79.78 and 83.33% of students could pass the standard minimum score. It can be concluded that the students’ English speaking competency could be improved by using podcast in English teaching and learning.
