The aim of this study was to develop the application of English Vocabulary Application based on the desktop version to assist the mentally-retarded students in learning English vocabulary. This research used Research and Development (R&D) with ADDIE models. This research involved 5 seventh-grader of mentally-retarded students and 3 teachers who teach mentally-retarded students from SLB Arya Satya Hati. The researcher used three instruments for this research: (1) Interview, (2) Questionnaire, and (3) Documentation. The data were analyzed by using Arikunto’s theory (2010) and percentage index (%). The researcher carried out the dissemination by uploading the video on how to operate the English Vocabulary Application on Youtube due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the validation results, it showed that English Vocabulary Application was feasible to be used as a learning media in assisting the mentally-retarded students with 100% materials validation results and 95% programming validation results. Based on the application try-out, 4 MR students could guess more than 10 words of 20 words and 1 MR student guessed 8 words of 20 words. Based on this research, the English Vocabulary Application could be used in teaching- learning vocabulary for mentally-retarded students through ICT. This application could be used as one ICT learning media and the other researcher could develop this application with the newest features.   Keywords: English Vocabulary Application, Mentally-Retarded students, teaching vocabulary

ABSTRACT Digital books or e-books (electronic books) are one of the technologies that utilize computers that are used to display information in the form of text, images, audio, video, and other multimedia in a concise and dynamic form that can be read by computers or other electronic devices. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Define phase to define problems in learning. Design phase to produce initial products and research instruments. The develop phase to obtain product and instrument eligibility. Disseminate stage for the distribution of teaching materials based on e-books. Research instruments include: validation sheets, and response questionnaires. The results showed that e-book based teaching materials were appropriate to be used to increase the interest of students in MA Ma'arif Roudlotu Tholibin in terms of expert assessments with good categories and from the responses of students and teachers in very good categories. From the assessment of language, materials and media that is 69%, 64% and 72% with good evaluation criteria. Whereas for students of MA Ma'arif Roudlotu Tholibin that is 87% with criteria very good and the teacher is 87% with very good criteria.

Abstract Local wisdom values mean society awareness about their ability in recognizing the surrounding condition.  In this context, the values refer to the Lampungnese custom in planting crop. Unfortunately, many EFL learners were not familiar with their surroundings.  Furthermore, this research describes the used of environmental issue topic in learning Essay writing. The teaching and learning process was done by EFL students by using online platform. It was suggested during the pandemic situation. However, the aim of this research is describing EFL students’ activities in emerging environmental topic toward their essay. This research was done on second semester of essay writing students. It was about 27 students. In conducting the teaching and learning process the lecturers choose any pictures that deal with the local culture of Lampungnese in planting crop as a topic. Then, the students would be more familiar with the values of the culture and elaborate the values in term of essay writing.

ABSTRACT   The main problem of this research was focused on the effective teaching reading comprehension by using paragraph shrinking technique to eight grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bumi Agung. The objective of this thesis is to know the effectiveness of teaching reading comprehension by using paragraph shrinking technique to eight grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bumi Agung. In writing this research, the researcher used experimental method. The researcher used two groups of students namely control group students at SMP Negeri 1 Bumi Agung in academic year 2013/2014 with total students were 108 from three classes. The form three classes the researcher took two classes as sample. It was 36 students of VII.A as experimental group and it was 36 students of VII.B as control group which chosen by using cluster random sampling. The data obtained from the test analyzed by using SPSS 19 paired sample t-test. Based on the study, the students in the experimental group who used paragraph shrinking have higher achievement in finding the main idea than the students in control group who did not use paragraph shrinking method.  Learning reading thorough paragraph shrinking encourages students to learn more about main idea. It could be seen from their enthusiasm during the teaching learning process. Based on the calculation above, the researcher got the average score in control group was 58.83 and experimental group was 73.34. The standard error of control group was 1.43 and experimental group was 1.78. Meanwhile, its critical value at 5% (1.99) significant with df = 68 was 6.363, t-obtained 1.99 was higher than t-table as a critical value. In other words, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, it means that paragraph shrinking was significantly effective in teaching reading. Based on the finding discussed above, it could be concluded that it was significantly effective to applied paragraph shrinking method in teaching reading.

Abstract A difficult reading material has become one of the student problems in comprehending the text. The application of using Authentic Reading Materials is needed for students. This research aims to know the effectiveness of using Authentic Reading Materials towards the students reading comprehension mastery. This experimental research used quantitative method and queasy experimental design. The research conducted at the sixth grade of English Education Department of Nahdlatul Ulama Lampung University which has the population 8 classes. The sample used in this research is 20 students as experimental class and 20 students as control class. The researcher uses purposive sampling as technique sampling. Based on the result of T test  formula, tratio is 4,61 and ttable  is 2,44. It means that tcount > ttable. The result of this research indicates that using Authentic Reading Materials is effective towards the students reading comprehension mastery at the sixth grade of English Education Department of Nahdlatul Ulama Lampung University

  The vocabulary is an important part in speaking. If we learn grammar, speaking, listening, without having the problem, the writer must give a good strategy in teaching vocabulary to increase all of them, especially in speaking skill. In Junior high school level, English is introduced as a new subject. Most of the students never learn it before. The writer thinks that vocabulary mastery is the most important, because vocabulary is an essential means in teaching language skill, especially in speaking skill. Students who understand a vocabulary will not be misled in interpreting the meaning of the vocabulary. When they have known the vocabulary, ofcourse they can speak easily. This research is used quantitative reseach. Researcher test hypotheses that are stated at the beginning. The Concepts are in the form of distinct variables. Measures used are systematically created before data collection and are standardized. The data are in the form of numbers from precise measurement. Theory is largely causal and  deductive. Procedures are standard, and replication is frequent. Analysis proceeds by using statistics, tables, or charts and discussing how what they show relates to hypotheses. The result of this research is student can easier understanding of learning vocabulary  and more interest about the media, the student’s speaking ability also influenced by learning vocabulary.

This research aims to analyze  bilingual milieu toward the student speaking performance  The research method uses  qualitative research  . The data collection techniques are used to obtain the data on  questionnaires response and interviews. The instruments in this research used questionnaires. The data analysis Method using descriptive method. This research is conducted by describing the results of observation and diagnostic of  the student’s  questioner and student’s activities.  This research conducted in Modern Islamic Boarding School because it gives special program to more develop English and Arabic,  one of primary program  to develop language with bilingual milieu. Because bilingual milieu make students habitually in speaking  foreign language. and bilingual milieu can improve the student’s performance   in speaking English

Abstract: This study is to analyze the subsconcious communicative competence using argumentative reading for post-beginner student in reading class. The theory used in this study is the communicative competence theory developed by Savignon and linguistic competence developed by Canale and Swain. The method used is classroom action research. The finding of this study is improving the subsconcious communicative competence using argumentative reading. AbstractThis research was conducted to investigate the effect of using GrammarTranslation Method (GTM) in teaching reading at fifth semester students ofAhwal As-Syakhsiyah of STIS Darul Falah Mataram in academic year2018/2019. This research was an experimental research with two groupdesign. The population of this research was all of students at fifth semester ofAhwal As-Syakhsiyah of STIS Darul Falah Mataram which consisted of 60students and they were divided into 2 classes, Class A and B. Class A wastaken as sample by using cluster sampling technique. Pre-test and post-testwere used in collecting the data. Then, it was analyzed by using ttest. Theresult showed that score of t-test (3.63) was higher than the score of t-table(2.003) at the confidence level .05 (95%). Therefore, null hypothesis (H0)which stated that “GTM is not effective in teaching reading’’ was rejected.Meanwhile, the score of t-test (3.63) was higher than the score of the t-table(2.663) at the confidence level .01 (99%). It indicates the alternate hypothesis(Ha) which stated that “GTM is effective in teaching reading’’ was accepted.It means that there was a significant effect of using GTM in teaching readingtext because there was a significant difference between students’ pre-test andpost-test score after treatments. Furthermore, the results of tests show thatmost students gave positive responses toward the use of GTM. Finally, theresult of the research suggest that the students loved this method because itsuccessfully motivated them to read texts in an enjoyable way and to improvetheir reading texts in terms of enriching vocabularies, organizing ideas andunderstanding the text easily. It is then recommended that GTM be used inteaching reading in different text types and levels of schooling.Key words: Grammar Translation Method, Descriptive text, Reading

The objective of this research was to improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text through clustering technique at the tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year 2018/2019. This research was conducted at tenth grade in second semester at MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year 2017/2018. The design of this research was classroom action research (CAR). This research was applied collaborative action research, this research was done in two cycle. It  is done with; planning, acting, observation and reflecting. In collecting data, the writer uses; test,observation and questionnaire. the application of the clustering technique could improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. Based on the results of the observation obtained the students more understanding to make descriptive sentences, and make the descriptive sentences into a descriptive text. The activity make the student become interested to describe the pictures or object, students more active and more anthusiasm in the writing learning process. Then, in Cycle 1 students passed is 15 (60%). In cycle 2 students passes the KKM (80%). Was improved 20% in cycle 2. By this number, the researcher concludes that the minimum target of success, that is 70% of the students in a class, has been achieved in cycle 2, and from the third data we can conclude it was prove that clustering technique can positively improve the students’ writing ability in descriptive text at tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Roudhotut Tholibin Metro in academic year of 2018/2019   Keyword : Improve Student’s Writing, Descriptive Text, Clustering technique.
