Abstract: The Sammaniyah Order was the largest in the archipelago and became the driver of jihad fi sabilillah against the Dutch colonial. The involvement of the Sammaniyah Congregation in the political world has denied various views that claim the tarekat as the bearer of setbacks and chaos. This reason is the basis of this tarekat and political study. To find answers to the grand problem of the relationship between the Sammaniyah Congregation and the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, historical research methods are used with steps such as heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography. This study can conclude that between the Sammaniyah Congregation and the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate had a very close relationship the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate was the protector of the congregation in the sultanate region so that the religious system in Palembang would continue, while the Sammaniyah Congregation as the community elite became a driver of Islamic practice.

Abstract One theory of the arrival of Islam to the archipelago states that the arrival of Islam was brought by merchants. There are those who say that the merchants came from Gujarat and some who got direct opinions from Arabia. Not a few also disagree that Islam was brought to the archipelago by traders, but rather by religious scholars from Arabia. This paper is not to discuss the pros and cons of this theory, but focuses on the relationship between trade activities and Islamization in the Jambi remoted area. By using historical research methods covering heuristics, internal and external criticism, interpretation and historiography, this article argues that the process of Islamization in Jambi is similar to the processes and flows of Islamization that occurred in other regions in Sumatra.

This chapter engages with important strands of scholarship on comics work, arguing for a critical comics studies that attends to the political economy, social relations, and material processes of production. It examines the relationship between struggles over the organization of cultural labor and the forms of value inscribed in comics, via the case study of a specific site of British comics production that reimagined how comics work could be organized and the artistic value comics could have– the cooperative Birmingham Arts Lab Press (1969-1982) and its Ar:Zak imprint. Bringing together archival inquiry and participant interviews, wider historical research into the arts lab, alternative press, community arts and underground/alternative comics movements, and Marxist political and aesthetic theory, this chapter analyzes how struggles for an autonomous, democratized, participatory creative practice that took place within this context of comics production were embodied in the material and visual form of the comics made.

As an emerging trans-disciplinary field, the operational use of historical criminology is a largely under-studied area. Examination of the use of archival research in studying cases connected to Gannon and Gilbertson’s Smiley Face murders theory indicates that there is clear potential for historical criminology to be used to revisit closed or cold investigations to determine if the official findings of the case are consistent with the evidence. In the case of the Smiley Face murders theory, taking a historical criminology approach has failed to prove the hypothesis of researchers; nevertheless, use of historical research methods has had some success in forcing a re-evaluation of several cases, and should be considered an important tool in future investigations of this nature.
