Purpose – This study aims to provide empirical evidence regarding the restrictions on the sharia stock criteria, by observing the impact of working capital and leverage on the profitability of companies listed in Indonesia Sharia Stock Index. There are some differences between Indonesia Ulama Council’s fatwa and AAOIFI sharia standards regarding the restrictions on the sharia stocks, particularly on the riba based leverage compared to the total assets of the companies regarded as having sharia stocks. The objective of this paper is to compare and analyze which restrictions serves companies better.Design/methodology/approach – The research was done to companies listed in Indonesia Sharia Stock Index from 2012 until 2018. Panel data regression was applied to analyze the significance of the result. For comparison purpose of the fatwa and the AAOIFI sharia standards, samples were divided into three different groups based on the debt to assets ratio as an indicator of the riba based leverage (≤30%, 30%-45% and>45%). Variables of cash conversion cycle and debt to assets ratio are used to measure the impact of the working capital and leverage on the return on assets as indicator or profitability.Findings – The result suggests that there are differences in the impact of working capital and leverage on the profitability for the three groups of leverage. In favor of the AAOIFI sharia standards, the result of this study shows that in the group where the leverage is 30% at maximum, the profitability is not affected by the working capital and leverage of the company. Meanwhile, in the group where the leverage is more than 30%, the impact of working capital and leverage on the profitability of the company is found to be significant.Research limitations/implications – This study is limited to the companies listed in Indonesia Sharia Stock Index, with variables of cash conversion, debt to assets ratio and return on assets.Practical implications – This study provide an empirical evidence that can be used to revisit the restrictions applied by Indonesia Ulama Council regarding the sharia stocks.Originality/value – To the best of authors’ knowledge, this paper provides important findings in the sharia finance dynamic in Indonesia.Keyword working capital, leverage, profitability, sharia stocks.Paper type research paper

Working Capital (WC) is an important aspect of any firms because of its correlation to risk (liquidity) and return (profitability). This research examines the influence of WC Management and Policy (WCMP) to profitability of 21 listed retail trading sector firms in Indonesia from 2011-2020 using panel data regression. In this research, WC Management (WCM) is measured by Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC) and its components which are Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), Days Inventory Outstanding, and Days Payable Outstanding (DPO); WC Policy is measured current assets divided by total assets or referred to as WC Investment Policy (WCIP) and current liabilities divided by total assets or referred to as WC Financing Policy (WCFP); and profitability is measured by Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortization Margin (EBITDAM). The results show that firms can increase EBITDAM by shortening CCC, primarily through shortening DIO and lengthening DPO. Further, firms may improve EBITDAM by adopting a conservative WC Policy instead of an aggressive one, which means having higher current assets and lower current liabilities with respect to total assets.

The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of CEO duality on firm performance. The study is based on secondary data collected from the published annual reports of respective companies and the Capitaline corporate database. The sample consists of 174 listed non-financial companies for eight years from 2011–12 to 2018–19. This study uses an appropriate panel data regression analysis to examine the impact of CEO duality on firm performance. Based on the panel data regression model, the study found mixed results, i.e., the impact of CEO duality on market capitalization is negative significant; however, the impact becomes positive when the firm performance is measured by return on assets. These outcomes of the present study are consistent with previous studies

Intellectual capital (IC) has gained recognition in enhancing the firms' value and gain a competitive advantage in the developed world. The present study examines the impact of IC on firms' financial performance. The study takes 48 companies for the time period of 10 years (2009-2018). The paper has used modified Pulic's value added intellectual coefficient (VAIC) as a proxy to measure IC and return on assets (ROA) to measure firms' financial performance. Granger causality between all the components of IC and ROA has been tested using Dumitrescu-Hurlin test. To analyse the impact, correlation and dynamic panel data regression technique has been applied. The result indicates that overall intellectual capital, human capital, relational capital, process capital, and financial capital have a significant impact on financial performance. On the other hand, innovation capital has no significant relationship with firms' financial performance. The results are helpful for managers, policymakers, government, and investors so that they can properly manage and regulate the IC of their organization.

The study investigated the impact of climate change accounting on the value growth of financial institutions in West Africa. The study used 10 years of annual reports of 47 financial institutions in Ghana and Nigeria. The climate change disclosure scores were determined based on the task force's recommended components on climate-related financial disclosure. A panel data regression technique was used for the analysis. The study found a positive and significant relationship between climate change accounting and the value of financial institutions in West Africa. This result implies that the firms' value would improve should they concentrate and enhance their climate change disclosure activities. The findings also revealed that the impact of climate change accounting on the value of financial institutions is positively and significantly higher in countries with stronger investor protection. These findings enable us to expand our understanding of the process of generating value for investors in financial institutions and society, generally.

Abstract: The sharia capital market in Indonesia has grown over the last five years. One of the members of the sharia capital market instrument is sharia shares. During the 2015-2020 period, the number of Islamic stock issuers continued to grow. The stock index is used by investors as a tool to choose stocks that suit their needs. IDX has issued three sharia stock indexes, and the most recent one is the JII70 index. A stock index is a collection of statistics about the price movement of a group of stocks that is evaluated periodically. One of the many factors that influence stock prices is the company's financial ratios. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial ratio factors such as Current Ratio (CR), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), Total Assets Turnover (TATO), Return on Equity (ROE) and Earning per Share (EPS) on the stock price of JII70 indexed companies. The data used is secondary data in the form of JII70 indexed company financial statements in the 2018-2020 period. The method of determining the sample using purposive sampling. This research uses panel data regression analysis method. The results of this study show a significant effect of the DER and EPS variables on stock prices, while the CR, TATO and ROE variables do not significantly affect stock prices. Keywords: Share Price, JII70, Financial Ratio, Panel Data Regression, Sharia Shares

We examine the impact of efficient working capital management on market value and profitability. Using secondary data on selected firms from Dhaka Stock Exchange we explore the effects of various working capital components (i.e. cash conversion cycle (CCC), current ratio (CR), current asset to total asset ratio (CATAR), current liabilities to total asset ratio (CLTAR), debt to asset ratio (DTAR), siz,e and growth) to the firm’s performance by looking firm’s value i.e. Tobin’s Q (TQ) and profitability i.e. return on asset (ROA) and return on invested capital (ROIC). Our results show that, for both food and overall manufacturing sectors, there is a significant association between working capital variables and firm’s value & return on assets, but an insignificant association with return on invested capital.
