The purpose of this study is to investigate how a group of junior-high school pupils created a functional boat from scratch and resolved the problems encountered in a scientific project. The study was conducted using a qualitatively exploratory method. Data sources consist of artefacts, interviews, observations, and self-reflection reports. The study results reveal that the hands-on, trial-and-error experiential learning not only helped the pupils enhance their creative skills and problem-solving abilities, but also helped them realize the value of collaboration. Nevertheless, although they were able to make various shapes of boats using different materials, only half of the boats created were able to successfully complete the established course. It discloses that turning a model work into a functional piece demands a certain extent of scientific knowledge and skills associated with the tasks, in addition to creative skills. The students’ anticipation of the teacher’s scaffolding to achieve the project goal was found to vary greatly among teams, indicating a dilemma of the teachers’ role in an open-form scientific project. How the created products were ranked in the project also raises concerns regarding setting up criteria to assess scientific artefacts. Suggestions for enhancing future implementations are provided. Key words: boat creation, collaborative learning, hands-on skills, problem solving skills.

The application of faded examples techniques to improve student’s problem solving ability on trigonometry at high school level AbstractThis study was aimed to produce and describe the quality of the developed Trigonometric Senior High School Science Program Enrichment’s Instructional Materials using Faded-Examples Techniques to Improve Problem Solving Ability. The quality of the developed teaching materials include all aspects of validity, effectiveness, and practicality. This was a developmental research used three phases Plomp’s model which consists of: (1) preliminary studies which involved the needs and context analysis, (2) product design development, and (3) the evaluation process of product validation and implementation. The development process involves two experts as validator, one teacher, and 50 students (X pengayaan 1 and X pengayaan 2). The study results the trigonometric enrichment’s teaching materials which consists of the teacher’s textbook and the student’s textbook that was developed using the faded-examples technique. This technique based on The Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) instructional design. The results of the study showed that the quality of the developed trigonometric enrichment’s teaching materials is “very good” according to lecturer validation and “practical” according to the evaluation from the teachers and students. The results of the learning showed that 100% of the students passed the minimum grade criteria of problem solving skills.

The aim of this study is to identify the relationship between social problem solving ability and burnout level of health professionals in a southeast city of Turkey. Material and Method: Data were collected using a self-reported questionnaire with the Short Form of Social Problem Solving Inventory and Maslach Burnout Inventory. A total number of 356 health professionals participated in the study. Results: Of all the participants; 44.1% were nurses, 27.0% were doctors and 28.9% consisted of other health professionals. Functional social problem solving dimensions were negatively correlated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and positively correlated with personal accomplishment. Conclusion: There is a negative correlation between social problem solving ability and burnout levels of health professionals. Evaluating social problem skills may allow to identify the ones who may be at risk for burnout; and improving their social problem solving skills may protect them from burnout.

Nursing education is a training that requires many cognitive and psychomotor skills to be given to the students. Especially, it is expected that students should do every application skillfully before going out to hospital practice. This study was carried out in order to determine the effect of simulation usage on nursing skill development. These work is a review. There are many advantages to using the simulation in nursing education. These; critical thinking, clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills, a specific situation, skill in simulated education and a case example case can be revitalized versatile. Thus, it is possible to provide students with active learning opportunities to create coherent and comparable experiences; Help students integrate knowledge and skills. Through simulation laboratories, students develop their practice and as a result, mistakes they may make can be reduced.  Keywords: Simulation; nursing education; skill development in nursing.

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> Problem solving skills must be possessed by every student to solve problems by involving critical, logical and systematic thinking. This study aims to determine the effect of Experiential Learning on students' problem solving skills. This study used a quasi experiment method with a pretest-posttest control design. The subjects in this study were geography students, with 68 students in total from two homogeneous classes. Data collection technique used instruments in the form of essay test to measure students’ problem solving skills. The results present that there is a significant effect of Experiential Learning on students’ problem solving skills.</p><strong>Abstrak:</strong><em> </em>Kemampuan pemecahan masalah harus dimiliki oleh setiap mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan dengan melibatkan pemikiran yang kritis, logis dan sistematis. Most students experience different levels of difficulties in learning mathematics. TIMSS results have shown that most students in Ghana do not perform well in higher level tasks designed to assess applications and non-routine problems. This study, therefore, aimed at examining Ghanaian Junior and Senior High School mathematics teachers problem-solving strategies and their professional development needs about problem-solving. 114 mathematics teachers from 28 Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) in the Cape Coast Metropolis took part in the study. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. The results from the study show that although teachers appreciate the importance of problem-solving in improving mathematics teaching and learning, there has not been the needed problem-solving training to support teachers in this regard. The researcher, therefore, argue that despite the numerous advantages associated with problem-solving strategy of teaching and learning, continuous professional development training for teachers should be paramount in our quest for helping students develop problem solving skills. Ghanaian JHS and SHS students can be in a disadvantageous position as they compete with their peers from other countries in international comparison examinations if our teachers are not given the needed support to become proficient in the use of problem-solving strategies in the classrooms.
